Australia arrests 183 for setting bushfires that celebrities claim were caused by climate change

Alright, clearly the figures in the 'The Australian' article are for the whole of 2019, given that they've now updated their own story. The Guardian tells us that Victorian police has no evidence that arson started any of the fires this season, but they haven't heard the same thing from NSW or Queensland police and presumably they asked them. Bottom line is that it seems that many of the fires in NSW and QLD were started by arson, we just don't know which ones. Only 43 of the reported 183 were from Victoria.

 

No, the Guardian is a left wing rag. I have about as much basis for that as you do for calling The Australian a right wing rag.

 

Wrong! No paper was more anti Corbyn than the Guardian. The Guardian used to be left of centre but since Snowden it has been sold and works with our security services.

I know the difference between arson and bushfire offences, I know there were not 183 cases of arson and I know there is no evidence that "climate nutters" started a single fire. I know that troll bots have been circulating fake news to discredit the environmental movement and I know that several members of the forum are repeating fake news from an unreliable source including the OP.

Last week every state in Australia recorded temperatures over 40 degrees on the same day. I don't think this has happened before.

So many soft fallacies here. The actual data doesn't, in fact, show that climate change does any of the above. What climate change in AU has demonstrated is that the growing seasons are longer, that more vegetation is being produced. The idea then that it is "drier" is fictional. For, if in fact it were, there wouldn't be the prodigious fuel available that we see. And frankly, why avoid the catastrophic human behavior of arson here? The catastrophe isn't being caused because fire just happened, it's being caused because a bunch of fire bugs are out the lighting them. That isn't climate change, it's criminal human behavior.
