Trump says Soleimani was plotting to blow up US embassy in Baghdad

This is the first time that I have even heard reporting about a specific type of threat. So there are only two ways to interpret this bit of news, as far as I can tell.

1) Either Trump is lying and making up **** in response to GOP criticisms about his administration being unwilling to disclose the nature of the threat even in a classified setting; or

2) For some reason, the Trump administration (but not Trump) felt that disclosing the nature of that threat was too risky to the source and Trump is now overruling that conclusion...probably in response to GOP criticisms about his administration being unwilling to disclose the nature of the threat even in a classified setting.

In related news, polling shows that an overwhelmingly majority of Americans consider Trump's decision reckless and has made America more dangerous.

The poll is likely a CNN viewer poll. Better to let them pull another Benghazi.

When you actually quote the portion that references whether the decision makes us less safe...yes.

You are free to read about two sentences into the article and see that it is a USA Today/Ipsos poll.

 

I am fairly certain that it is difficult for both options to correct at the same time. Either he is lying or he is not lying and his administration decided that they couldn't tell Congress that bit of information in a classified setting.

Also, if I believed just 10% of what came out of Trump's mouth, you'd be justified in taking me out...

 

Best I can say is "maybe." This guy, by all accounts, was the guy who did the planning. So if taking him out was the only way to ensure that the attack would not happen, then sure. But if taking him out makes the threat more likely or there were alternative methods for stopping the attack and those methods were also less likely to result in greater short term and long term risk for American interests, then you should take that route.

As Pete Buttigeig said, "Taking out a bad guy is only a good idea if you are capable of handling what comes next."

Pardon me for interjecting, but killing Soleimani was justified whether he was plotting to attack the embassy (again) or not. He had American blood on his hands and for that he should have been killed years ago, and if it wasn't for Tehran's asset in the White House, Barack Obama, the Israelis would have done us the favor of killing him years ago.

Now Iran's quislings in the United States want to whine about a situation that the traitor they elected could have prevented years ago, and as if that wasn't bad enough, the sanctions relief that that traitor provided and those quislings supported helped fund the ballistic missile program that enabled Iran to lob missiles at our troops.

 

I wonder how many of the 600+ American families who’s love ones were killed by Soleimani supported Obama giving him Amnesty?

Iran is the only country I can think of that's ever gotten away with directly attacking us. It takes guts to launch missiles at us.

 

It didn't give him amnesty. It lifted sanctions against him and hundreds of other entities that were sanctioned over the nuclear program.
