Voting on whether or not to have witnesses is not the same thing as precluding the introduction of witnesses. That is, there is nothing that states that they may not be introduced - that it is forbidden.

Says who? You? Additional witnesses and evidence are the norm in trials. Or are you suggesting that prosecutors are - and should be - limited to the evidence and witnesses presented to a grand jury. I hope not.

You need to broaden your perspective and consider all impeachment trials - judges as well as presidents - all of which have included witnesses. Clearing up items and answering questions is just one good reason for having them.

The Senate is conducting a trial to establish guilt or otherwise re the charges laid out in the Articles of Impeachment. The more information they have, the better - either to confirm innocence or establish guilt.

Of course it doesn't. The Constitution says barely anything about impeachment. The House and Senate impeachment rules (evolved over time) lay out exactly how it's conducted - including House Managers presenting and prosecuting the case in the senate trial.

 

It's always going to be unfair because the people finding the evidence in the house and the people reviewing it in the Senate all have party affiliations.

If they'd just take 100 random citizens to hear the case maybe that'd be better but that's not the way the process works. When the process benefited democrats in the house I don't remember democrats saying how it was an unfair process only now that the process no longer benefits them do they scream. That tells me their argument isn't about fairness but getting their way

 

If Trump wasn't afraid of Biden, he probably wouldn't have needed to get those investigations announced...

But I'd vote for your goldfish over our current overfed carp....

 

This has been an unfair farce since Nancy decided to move forward with an investigation based on one Ukraine phone call. It became a travesty after she pushed the official impeachment vote to the floor before they made any solid case. They built their case on sand (hearsay and no evidence).

The "rules" are specifically set in the Senate, but there is a broad outline of expectations in the Constitution and with precedents.

Every one knew this day would come and no one should be surprised. Mitch has been announcing his intentions for how the trial would run for a few weeks.

The biggest surprise of today is that Schiff stood up and started whining that he didn't have enough evidence....after stating previously that they did have a solid case. He admitted today that he has no credible witnesses to make his case. Now Democrats are blaming Trump because they didn't wait. It is sadly hilarious.

 

Biden vs Trump will not be pretty.

 

Biden is a snowflake and unfit for office. Trump is an actual President.

Also your comment reminds me of the 2016 election where democrats hung on the popular vote and all the sudden railed against the rules everyone knew before hand.

These rules and procedures where known before hand and yet democrats are trying to pretend that they were unaware this exercise would be tainted with political bias. There is no way this was going to be fair, politics isn't about fair it's about do you have the numbers to do it

 

Trump promised to drain the swamp. Biden is part of that swamp. Trump likes to "win", but he is not afraid of anyone. There is a difference. Trump had no reason to "fear" Biden, so his motivation for asking for the investigation was to keep his promise to supporters to work on draining the swamp. That is his defense.

I hope you would vote for my goldfish before voting for carpy creepy Biden.

 

I don't think they are exactly unique in that idea but in the here and now they are setting a shining example imo

Democrats are used to being on the children's playground where the bullies got their way. Now they've walked into an adult pro ball game and are about to be shown the rules.

 

Schiff looks like he could break into tears any minute....but I think that's normal for him. He has a resting fear face.

 

I think the SCOTUS would fast track it. What difference does it make timewise whether the challenge comes from the impeachment or the trial?

 

If the House did not have the evidence, and they don't, then they should have subpoenaed witnesses and documents they now say they need to prove their case. Since they didn't, the impeachment was a act of partisanship with no evidence.

 

WTF? Pelosi held onto the Articles for weeks to get Cocaine Mitch to clarify the rules. He wouldn’t. She sent the Articles without knowing what the rules would be.

 

Schiff probably thinks that 2 + 2 = Russia.

33 days for something she could not do or decide because she doesn't run the Senate.

 

So much for the whining about executive privilege, the House should have gone to court.

And now Schiff isn't debating the amendment he trying to case before it has even started. I wish a Republican would object to as what does this have to do with passing the Amendment about a subpoena, it is irrelevent.

 

Schiff is now repeating one portion of Sondland's testimony even though later in his testimony he admitted he was only presuming what he said and witnessed nothing. That is how Schiff for brains lies.

 

Why did the house not call the 3rd amigo during the house inquiry?

 

Because this was so solemn and important that they wanted an impeachment before Christmas.

That has been a constant. They have continued to say Sondland stated there were conditions and yet, Sondland changed his testimony. They tell a lie enough times, they are hoping that people believe it.

And I'll keep posting this.

 

This canard about they couldn't seek subpoenas in the House because of the 2020 election and it would back it up until then if they did. Well the same will happen in the Senate, that doesn't go away in the trial. I more and more getting the impression that the Democrats just want to setup the loss so they can later claim "we weren't allowed to present all the evidence and our case" as their excuse.

They blew it in the House and now want the Senate to give them cover.
