I just hope this Coronavirus does not outlast the 1918 Spanish Flu. Here is something about it:
The Spanish flu (also known as the 1918 influenza pandemic) was an unusually deadly influenza pandemic that infected 500 million people—about a quarter of the world's population—from January 1918 through December 1920 The death toll is estimated to have been anywhere from 17 million to 50 million, and possibly as high as 100 million, making it one of the deadliest epidemics in human history.

To maintain morale, World War I censors minimized early reports of illness and mortality in Germany, the United Kingdom, France, and the United States. Papers were free to report the epidemic's effects in neutral Spain, such as the grave illness of King Alfonso XIII, and these stories created a false impression of Spain as especially hard hit.[6] This gave rise to the pandemic's nickname, "Spanish flu". Historical and epidemiological data are inadequate to identify with certainty the pandemic's geographic origin.

Most influenza outbreaks disproportionately kill the very young and the very old, with a higher survival rate for those in between, but the Spanish flu pandemic resulted in a higher than expected mortality rate for young adults. Scientists offer several possible explanations for the high mortality rate of the 1918 influenza pandemic. Some analyses have shown the virus to be particularly deadly because it triggers a cytokine storm, which ravages the stronger immune system of young adults. In contrast, a 2007 analysis of medical journals from the period of the pandemic found that the viral infection was no more aggressive than previous influenza strains. Instead, malnourishment, overcrowded medical camps and hospitals, and poor hygiene promoted bacterial superinfection. This superinfection killed most of the victims, typically after a somewhat prolonged death bed.

Imagine if this so called Coronavirus epidemic would last 3 years to 4 years? Let's hope not.

There was no penicilan back then which today stops secondary bacterial infections of similar patients.

This drug has shown very promising results against coronavirus. New York hospitals are using it with success. It was tested on coronavirus patients in France with success also. FDA needs to hurry it up , pull round the clock work. We don't have time to sit around and wait for them. This is not a new drug. The world is shut down and people are very sick and dying and they want time we don't have.

New cases today include people who were exposed before March 10. It takes 2 weeks to become symptomatic, plus some days of getting sick enouh to call a docter. Also, we're not just going to see this cut off in one day.

Plus, this is biology. This is human behavior.

On what day will ditto heads strt practicing social distancing?

How about Hannity watchers? How about the millions who watched Trish Reagan on Fox business

This isn't about one day. And, nobody thinks it is.

In UK, Boris Johnson called for companies who would volunteer to make equipment and supsplies needed by hospitals.

Numerous companies stepped up, and with coordination they now have a spike in the production of ventilators, masks, and al sorts of other material.

The thing is, manufacturers can't just magically supply all that is needed. Capitalism doesn't work that way. They do not build capacity based on national disaster scenarios.

Have you ever worked in planning capacity in manufacturing?

He told governors that he was signing the Defense Production Act that would allow him to take steps such as redirecting corporate production, finding sources of equipment and supplies within the government, etc.

AFTER bragging about that, he tweeted that he wasn't going to use it!!

I know the government is doing more now, but it is NOT doing what UK is doing. There, corporations were asked to cooperate to produce stuff they don't usually produce - and they volunteered to do so!!

Now with government coordination, they are producing significantly more ventilators and other stuff that is in life threateningly short supply - with hospitals unable to protect their medical workers, for example.

Maybe it's because they have had war experience that we never had. They KNOW how to pull together.

We need to be pressuring Trump to do that.

Are you aware of the situation in other states?

How do you check out your assumptions before propegating them?

I could swear that I heard millions of Americans say the same phrase about 3 1/2 years ago but it went something like this. Imagine if this Trump epidemic would last 3 years to 4 years? Lets hope not.

At 3 days doubling time over 30 days

    April 20th.....19 million cases X 1.34% = 255,000 death

    In reference to Trump's common flu/no shut-down analogy....his last three words;

    Think about that!

10 days later, Trump wants cheque sent out immediately "Not their fault, it's a government shut-down"

    Well said, npb.

    Trump dropped the ball.

He waited 2 Months before he took things seriously.

Precious time lost, and here we are.

I have heard physicians say secondary bacterial infections do not seem to be happening with this virus. Do you have any information to the contrary? Thanks.

That would be Big Pharma, the GREED OBSESSED Wall Street Casino Banksters and the GOP who enabled them to do it.

Some of those might have been positive retests of those already infected included in the new case total by mistake. In high stress situations mistake can and do happen. Here in America we are nowhere near the medical stress levels they are experiencing in Italy and Spain.

This is a double edged blade. It does need to be more thoroughly researched and there are some ways that more data can be obtained. For instance Rheumatoid arthritis is commonly treated by the same drug. If we start asking those tested if they are taking that drug and compare that to the test results there might be a correlation with the outcomes. If that correlation exists that supports the use of the drug. While it is still relatively early in the Pandemic nations with higher Malaria risks currently appear to have lower infection rates. That could still change but it is another metric that could be used to determine if it is potentially efficacious. Combine those with early results from medical double blind studies and we could potentially be closer to a solution. What we won't know are the potential negative side effects but signing releases could be a way to handle that obstacle.

UK based Formula One teams have come forward because they currently have under utilized manufacturing capacity for high tech equipment. Ferrari in Italy has even donated vehicles to transport their ventilators to wherever they are needed.

This is similar to WW2 when furniture makers were transformed into factories to build the wood framed Mosquito fighter/bomber.
