    You re INVENTING better logic for Trump, a very common trait amongst adherents. Why does it not matter one lick, what garbage Trump says? His claims, are taken as gospel by his worshippers. Presidents are SUPPOSED to say what is true, and right, not any fouls crap he wants to FEEL.

    Why based on population? They should get them in proportion to infections. You'd be sending to some states more ventilators than they need.

    That is a fair enough point and I am glad you brought that up. I was setting up a situation in which to provide a rational basis for pointing out some of the major pitfalls of single payer healthcare which generally uses apportionment of scarce resources based upon populations as opposed to any real facts on the ground. This particular instance brought up by the OP shows the dissatisfaction that people are going to experience with rationed health care.

    If you read the media account on today's MSN main page, it was capitalism that destroyed the governments attempts to have thousands of low cost easily portable ventilators from being manufactured. The giants of the medical devices industry bought out smaller companies who had agreed to design and manufacture smaller cheaper ventilators, as they didn't want them competing with their very expensive ones.

    What a vivid imagination! Cuomo set up his own death panel to plan for the contingency when he gave up buying tens of thousands of ventilators for his solar power boondoggle back in 2015. Of course that paled to when Obama institutionalized death panels in the ACA, and then to pour salt in the wounds (or to show off his prowess) he added an unconstitutional provision that said no future congress could change it except during a tiny future window, and a constitutional but draconian provision that said nobody could appeal any decision of the IPAB. You need to bone up on death panels.

    I have lived under a nationalized healthcare system, and I think that such a system would make confronting this much easier. Especially in a country like ours and in a situation like this. The majority of resources will not be needed everywhere at the same time. It will depend on where the apex of the pandemic is. It is estimated that New York will be the first to reach the apex. Probably in a week or two. So that's where the most respirators will be needed. Once the apex passes to another place, New York won't need all the respirators these can be passed to another place. But New York has needed to bid for equipment (masks, respirators, gloves, etc) with other states. There is no central authority to coordinate this. So they end up paying more for less equipment. And, after paying more, will they let any remnants go to other states easily when their apex has passed?

    A centralized healthcare system would have allocated resources as needed.

    He only needs to say he read it. Remember: Trump doesn't care what reality is. He only cares about the appearance of reality he can use to fool his faithful followers.

    Like Trump demanded of Zelensky... he just needed him to say he was investigating Biden (not to investigate him). Except this time, the life of 36 K Americans (at least) are what Trump is bargaining with.
