It was a poor joke. Since the military is all voluntary it is in fact difficult to separate the arguments against the military without touching on the troops. They are all there because they choose to be...

It depends on what you mean by voluntary, yes they are technically there of their own accord but I have known and still do know several that were pretty much forced to join because of family pressure, finances or they just didn’t have any other option.

You can agree the military is bloated, wasteful, too large and not have any resentment to the people that serve. I do
We cannot get our fiscal house in order with the issues caused by the size and scope of our armed forces.

Nobody on that ship has died from Corona and yes it is the same. The ship must remain on active duty even at the risk of casualties no matter how they occur. When you join the services that’s what you sign up for. You are dispensable the moment you put on the uniform.

The captain sent the letter to numerous people outside the chain of command knowing that doing so would ensure it was leaked. The acceptable cost in lives to keep the ship on active duty is not his call to make.

It will he a good day when people like yourself are not making these types of decisions.
I would say you should be ashamed of demanding these troops die over something completely preventable because “they signed up for it” but it would likely fall on deaf ears. Disgusting

None have died and if some did it’s in the line of duty keeping the ship at fighting readiness.

I never said any had — had it not been for the actions of the Captain that may not have been true.

I cannot agree that the military is too large. History had shown us time and again that unpreparedness is more costly in lives and emboldens our enemies...

The Navy has been dealing with sick sailors for over 200 years, facing worse diseases than this without having to compromise national security or run to the press. This captain was wrong on many levels...

Trump had nothing to do with this decision. How many times do you folks need to be told that?

Here’s a loaded question for you - is saving the the lives of troops is always the correct thing to do?

BINGO! This captain would figure, by refusing such orders he may save the lives of his sailors, who undoubtedly would cheer his decision.

Our military is larger than the next five nations combined. And while we are pissing off virtually all of our allies we are still apart of NATO which means if we are attacked all of them must come to our aid. Furthermore we have nuclear weapons.

Even if we cut our spending down to double that of the next largest threat we would not be underprepared.

History has never had an example of a nation with the deterrences that we hold — even at reasonable levels.

    Nope.

Here is a loaded question for you — should we let our troops suffer “just because”, if they are not involved or needed in a conflict?

Numerous ex-admirals, ex-captains, analysts, troops as well as the sailors on the ship disagree with you.

He sent the email out to numerous individuals — none of them “press” that I am aware of — because he was being ignored through regular channels.

He was fired — Along with people doing their jobs reporting what their subordinates say and sometimes their family members —because we have scum for leadership in this nation. He knew what would happen, he valued the people under his command more than the ego of the draft dodging CIC.

Those so-called allies are free to go it alone and increase their defense spending so they can protect themselves without us...

None of his crew had died as if his letter writing incident.
When you join the service you realize or at least sho realize you are a pawn on a chessboard and will be sacrificed to protect any and all other pieces on the board. In this case the ship is the castle and you may well be sacrificed to protect the ship and to keep it in play.

A mindless and false comment - and those of you who clicked like "Dutch" - are equally engaging in mindless idiocy for encouraging such commentary.

    Nope.

Here's another loaded question for you - should our military ALWAYS follow the chain of command, or are they at liberty to pick and chose when?

He was fired because he went outside the chain of command and endangered National security.
