If I were a prospective cop I would avoid working for a large city department. Things are better in suburban and small city departments.

I never claimed that fentanyl should be legal - nor coke and do not believe that fentanayl should be legal. So already you are not understanding what is being claimed- and on the basis of this misunderstanding you are misrepresenting what is being claimed.

George being previously arrested for drugs has no relevance. The war on drugs on the other hand - Does - as per the reasons given in my previous post -which you have not addressed.

    So
Pot Law is illegitimacy of authority - as is various laws/legislation justified on the basis of "the drug war" in general.

When you have a law that criminalizes an activity that some 12% or more of the population engages in on a regular basis - (22% of some demographics such as 18-29) - you have just created a huge policing problem - and increased the number of people who will potentially have negative interactions with Police - and/or negative perception.

That is not a "Social Construct" - it is mathematics.

Then on the basis of this "Huge" policing problem that has been created - the Gov't increases police powers and tramples on essential liberty in ways such as money laundering, privacy, asset forfeiture, arbitrary search and seizure.

That power corrupts - and more power corrupts more - is not a "Social construct" - it is a Historical Imperative.
That the average person is arrogant, self centered, controlling, corruptible - and generally nasty in many other ways - is reality.
That Police are people - is reality.

So when you give a bunch of arrogant - self serving - controlling individuals more power - that power goes to the head most.
When you deal with the dregs of society all day long as your job - you get jaded.
When everyone you see is a criminal - because bad law has turned so many of the citizens into criminals - you get jaded.

but hey - who gives a wart on a rats backside about essential liberty - "we have a drug war to win". This loss of respect for essential liberty - implicit in conducting one's job as Cop - slides down the slippery slope.

The "Drug war" is a war against the citizens of the US - and the Police are the foot soldiers in this war - foot soldiers with far too much power - and far too little respect for essential liberty - operating in an environment where bad law has criminalized a huge number of people.

Nice little speech on your war on drugs mantra, but as I've already stated, it has nothing to do with Floyd's arrest or death. I realize people obsess about their pet projects and try to fit them into every possible situation, no matter how off the wall, but I'm under no obligation to pay attention to your multiple distraction posts. Start a thread on the war on drugs and preach away, but it's not the topic of this thread.

I think some bad cops will try to punish society for coming down on them... but good cops won't do that

bad cops do bad things, I would expect no different from them here

But for our professional police there would be virtually no street crime and certainly no vandalism and looting in America.

I'm a retired cop. Decades ago I accidentally hurt a guy (a white guy). It required a few stitches to the forehead. Moderate force was needed, and that is what was used, but his forehead was unintentionally cut. Now what if that were to happen today in public on video and the suspect was black? I think I'd get fired, be made the face of white racism, and probably get prosecuted. So maybe, if I was a cop today, I'd just not touch the guy. Maybe I simply wouldn't notice that he was breaking the law. Maybe I'd ask him to voluntarily submit to arrest, but be unwilling to use force if he didn't voluntarily submit.

It's already happening in some places in the country. Guys go on shift with the deliberate intention to see nothing and to only do what they're forced to do. Disturbance or suspicious person call? Take the long way there. Don't hurry. Clear the call "Unable to Locate" or "Gone on arrival". Ignore traffic violations, even really dangerous ones. Does it look a fight is going to break out in front of that store? Turn the corner and keep going. Got an easy call? Stay on it for as long as possible, making yourself unavailable for other more serious calls. That guy lurking in an alley at 3 a.m.? Didn't see him. Never run anybody for warrants. Don't follow up good leads on a crime. At all times, try not to do anything.

When I was working, I didn't play that game, but trust me ... I know how it's played, and I think we're going to see a lot more of it.

Of course the war on drugs had something to do with Floyds death. That you no ability to refute this claim - or even the ability to address the arguments put forward - is no reason to go on some demonization rant .. and 100% it is the topic of this thread.

    Good Benefits

Like Life Time Disability Retirement after 10 Years.

I witnessed it at Long Beach.
Police had their list of obliging Orthopedist too.
And always managed an injury a day or two after 10 years.

They won’t see it as punishing society. They will see it as survival. Even good cops need to feel supported. Otherwise, you can turn them into “do nothing” cops.

How many cops have you seen prosecuted for that. Please provide the video and court ruling. To make that claim I'm sure you have many examples. But one would be sufficient.

And to save some time, let me answer that for you: no, you don't have one. Have not seen any cops convicted for an unintentional cut on the forehead, and you have never heard of any cop ever being convicted for something like that.

Am I on the right track?

Instead, your intention is to throw in a strawman to attempt to dilute the fact that there are racist cops out there. Not that they would accidentally cause a cut, but some who actually have a history of violence against black suspects. If their defense is, for example, "all my history of black suspects who show up needing stitches were just accidents" then they need to be out of the police force. They are incapable of restraining themselves. And this will motivate other cops to also restrain themselves.

But this idea that cops are suddenly going to be prosecuted if they accidentally produce a cut on a suspect's head is just a ridiculous strawman.

A cop who is incapable of apprehending a suspect because they can't measure restratint, should also not be in the police force today.

They are not cut to be cops.

Yes. Being a cop has just become more difficult than it ever was. Human Resources will simply need to work double shift to find those who can do the job and weed out those who can't. Unless you want to forever see protests that last weeks and weeks, making the police force more professional is the only way out.

Tell that to those that get shot by a weapon that was bought by a black market arms dealer. Or those living in countries that don't have an effective government.

When police stop treating citizens like the enemy then their need for violence will lessen.

If having police means 20% of the people cannot walk the streets without fear of being killed by the police then I will do without the police.

I'll tell that to the millions that have been killed over the years, in unjust war like Iraq, Viet Nam and Korea. Those number far outweigh your fantasy S-Team scenerio.

The average pay for police in this country is about $53k. Not low.

    As for the working conditions...

If the system is changed such that the police don't treat the citizenry like enemies then that alone will improve working conditions.

Fair enough. Out of curiosity, how would you protect yourself in that situation? Suppose theres people breaking into your house while you're home. Whats your alternative to calling the police?

Yeah, all those wars started by governments outweigh all the individual murders that happen every 60 seconds....right? LINK:A Murder A Minute

The Vietnam War lasted 9 years and during that time 1.353 million to 3.595 million people died due to it depending on what stats you go by (the higher stats often include deaths after the war ended but are attributed to it anyways). So, 9 years of the year 2000 murder numbers would equal out to 14.4 million deaths in the same time frame as the Vietnam War. IE: It would take roughly 4 Vietnams (using the highest range of deaths in Vietnam stats) to cause the same amount of deaths. OR to put another way, you could put the Vietnam war, Korean War, and Iraq war all together and you still come up short to murders that happen in the same time frame.

Or to put it another way, 399,444 people died per year in the Vietnam War. In 2000 1.6 million people were murdered. In the Korean War, which lasted 3 years and caused roughly 3 million deaths that's 1 million per year. Still doesn't match 2000's 1.6 million. Iraq doesn't even come close to the 1 million mark per year.

Your "killed over the years by government" is going to take a long time to catch up to the amount of murders that happen every single year.

Most of the trouble is in bigger cities where pay is higher. Biloxi pays $37,193 to start out of the academy.

Awarded the Medal of Valor with four other officers for saving four special needs children who would have died in Katrina.

You have to shoot them dead. You have no other choice unless you're a mind reader and can determine they will be satisfied just taking stuff.

Well the left has certainly destroyed their own argument for gun control. Ban cops and violence is justified. That'll just push more people to protect themselves.

    Suppose there's not?

Suppose that people out there aren't spending every waking minute trying to break in to your house.

    Suppose

    Suppose...

How many time have you people said and I will accurately paraphrase here

It's not the responsibility of the police to protect you

So what changed? If the police don't protect me but when I do there's a good chance they kill me, my kids, my grandkids...who should I fear?

    No experience.
    No college degree required.

Median per capita income in Mississippi us <$25.

$37K would appear to well above the median.

The remainder of your response is superfluous.
