The town is very small. Just 7,000 inhabitants. It shouldn't be too hard to establish a perimeter around it, enforced by the National Guard called up by the governor. A state of emergency all the way to martial law with a curfew could be declared. If the authorities did want to stop this from happening, they would be able to. But there is no political will to do it, especially in a state whose governor is a Republican.

Haven't you heard? According to the Left if you allow thousands upon thousands of people in close and sweaty proximity to one another for week after week and month after month with absolutely nobody knowing where they have come from nor where they are going afterwards then the kung-flu virus is fooled into NOT targeting them just as long as you call the activity . . . peaceful protests. So now the Right is going to take a page out of the Left's book and label all their gatherings that. Whammo! Instant virus immunity.

If Trump had originally come out strongly for mask the democrats and their media would say mask don't work.

You do realize that if you look at SD numbers that won't work. Most 9f the people who go there are not from SD.

Most Dems don't partake of insane ideologically driven denial of science.

Why do you think it should have been stopped?

Proving the 24/7 bio-terrorism campaign is a collection of lies and deceptions, doesn't it?

I'm usually not in favor of authoritarian measures, but this event seems so boneheaded, with 250,000 careless people gathering and then going back to their own towns... as if we needed this virus outbreak to become any worse.

Well, for one thing, they did beat the contagion, there (if we can trust their numbers, which I generally don't do).

No, we don't need the virus outbreak to become any worse. I just don't know if authoritarian measures would have helped in this situation. I mean, the people could meet elsewhere. I find it more telling that they haven't taken it upon themselves to wear masks (and who knows if they are hand washing and using hand sanitizer regularly). It seems reckless and for what? A weekend getaway.

60% of the town's residents wanted it postponed.

As a small nod to COVID, the city did put up a few hand sanitizing stations.

    We'll see.

ZZ Top canceled so they went with a ZZ top cover band. The venue was crowded.

    It's a 10-day event.

OK. Is a 10-day event worth risking one's health during a pandemic? Clearly, the participants think so. What about the ones that will become infected and move it around the country when they return home?

Yes, people do this kind of stupid behavior and then when it backfires on them they regret it. It's anecdotal but I was reading the story of a man who got sick and tired of the lockdown and decided to gather with 16 family members, saying "this is all a hoax, we're all family, who is the governor to say I can't hug my grandma?" Result, 14 of them got the virus, two of them have died already, and now the covidiot profoundly regrets his own stupidity. The one problem is that they don't do it just to themselves but they also infect other people.

That is just sad. I watched some videos online of skeptics coming forward after they caught it. They were at least lucky enough to survive. Life is scary enough. Why would someone willfully take the risk is beyond me.

I was shocked when I saw someone (probably late 20s-early 30s) push pass a senior citizen in our local WalMart. The store ended up giving seniors one hour each morning to shop without others. I find it sad that it had to reach that point. I'm old enough to remember a time when people were generally polite and actually cared about their fellow man. Sad on so many levels.

I've been solidly in the respect COVID camp since January. I have condoned no large gatherings, be it window shopping at Walmart with your entire family, rioting, protesting, rally attending, etc.

MCrider, DanDanTheFireman, and MotoJitsu...teach caution all the time. If we all threw caution to the wind we couldn't get very far.

We don't have anywhere near the protection a cage gives, it means we have to look further ahead, have to look behind and keep our options of escape open, have to pay attention to where others are in traffic, have to anticipate the cars, oil, sand, and gravel...and practice.

Getting in a car with another without a mask to save gas is not social distancing, or safe, especially since new cars are designed to have the windows up.

I have sanitizer and masks on my bikes, and a bit of a scrape on a jacket showing the CE armor under it.

It will be interesting to see the after statistics though. Might be a few $30,000 baggers for sale cheap.

My comment was tongue in cheek. Motorcycles are inherently dangerous in a world of cars and trucks and those that ride them accept that risk.

    Good question.
Does being a bikie define you as apolitical or even Anarchistic?
