both sides not playing fair, I see no end to that, if the rules allow it, the parties will now do it

No SC justice has ever been appointed in a final year of a Presidency when there is a split government. Adding seats will show democrats to be a bunch of sore losers. At the end of the day, the stars aligned and various decisions were made which enabled Trump 3 nominations, for example Obama being a sitting duck President from 2012-2016 and RBG not retiring under Obama.

It should never make power grabs possible, but that is precisely what is happening, as we speak.

More justices would add stability, and that would help. We should also apply the rules to SC judges that all other judges have to follow. The Right side of the court has proven they need those rules, and badly.

There were a number of republicans who were all about letting 'the people' decide on a SCOTUS nominee in 2016. But when an opportunity came up in their favor, they simply couldn't resist. Let's throw 'fairness' out of the equation and just focus on honor and dignity. If you so blatantly cannot stand by your word, what is left?

Nope, not mad. Or surprised. Nor am I naive, as I do understand politics. But I had hoped the Reps weren't capable of such stupidity and brazenly dirty politics. Now I know - and I won't make that mistake again.

 

So you were hoping Republicans wouldn't do what Democrats started. The fallacy is that once the nuclear option became viable it literally turned the Senate into the House. The Senate had always been ruled by precedent, once precedent is broken you can't seal it back up because you don't agree with those now in power. Unfortunately for all of us, both sides are made from the same cloth. Most Politicians are despicable human beings that are only there for power and cash on both sides. It's been the case since the beginning of time my friend.
