They have to cater to their customers. The advertisers. All liable means is legally responsible.
They would lose money if they let hate groups post as they wish.

the reasons sites make you log in to read the posts is to make it members only vs open to the public

By thought police, you mean those who voice opposition.
    Isn't that free speech?

Goodbye American literature. People in the future will never know of today's plot to narrow the minds of humanity to only controlled and limited thoughts and ideas.

...unless people start to stand up and speak out....

It's not free. Ads pop up and and pay the bills.
If they allow hate speech, the lose their revenue stream. Capitalism at work.

    No they are not.
No one has been silence for politics. But for lies and hate. And not just right wing.

The thought police is a reference to George Orwell's 1984.

Voicing opposition is free speech. Forcing others to not only be silent about their opposition, but also forcing people to mimic only speech which is "approved" by tyrants. Thought police silence dissent and compel group-think speech.

As long as it's not the gov't controlling, it's free speech.

Owners. In actuality, it's the one who pays the bills. Often that means advertisers. Now if it a pay for play site, then it's the people paying the membership. Twitter and FB charge users nothing, so the users agree to the rules of the site before they are allowed to make a single post.

Who gets to decide who can eat in a restaurant?
Who decides who get an interview? And what parts of an interview gets aired?

The thread title is that a Biden Aide Is Signalling a Push for Greater Censorship.

The OP also notes that the Left is now included as a target in the scope of censorship.

Well, this thread did go way off topic.

However, who is the biggest "owner" of them all? How about the people we elect to legislate "rules" upon everyone in the land without any individual consent. Biden/Harris are for cracking down on free speech. Of course that will impact Twitter/FB, who appear to be working with Democrats. That is the thread.

So you're in agreement with me? The FB, Twitter should not be controlled by gov't?
Mostly RW side has been pushing for the gov't to reign them in.

    That's what they tell Congress.

Meanwhile MAGA hats are conflated with Klan hoods even when black people wear them and the symbol for OK is conflated with 'white power' and anything conservative is a 'dog whistle' for 'hate' and since when is a lie not free speech? Who became the arbiter of determining a lie from just being wrong (and often just disagreeing with establishment progaganda).

Conservatives are being censored by proxy by redefining anything conservative as hate.

The only question is- is it because folks forgot that censorship actually creates violent extremism, or is it because the censors want to create violent extremism?

You have proof they are lying?

No clue about your MAGA hat claim. Link?

I don't believe anything a conservative post is deemed hate.

I agree with you that the government should not control free speech.

I also believe that Twitter and Facebook should not control free speech, particularly not for the purpose of silencing political dissent.

Of course you don't. Try posting some conservative ideas on Facebook and Twitter and see what happens.

...or just wait until the establishment globalists are finished pandoring votes from the far left and try criticizing their new wars.

    Then you'll experience the censorship.

that would be Trump and his supporters attacking anyone that doesn't worship Trump

and Trump is allowed to tell his lies, it's just highlighted by twitter as such

    Good we are in agreement.
And I am not aware of political speech being silenced.

    Are you? Is there proof?

    So there are no examples?
What posts were not allowed because the poster was conservative?
What conservative ideas do you speak of?

You and others keep saying this but what specifically do you refer?
