“As California’s major political and business leaders tout their supposed support for diversity, it appears that their commitment may end at their own front doors.
As elite corporate progressives situated in California- which has tragically become one of the most economically unequal states in the country, and arguably the most economically disparate major jurisdictions in the entire western world- lecture the rest of the country on diversity and equality, it appears many of them are wholly unwilling to take on the challenge of living in an actual diverse community.”

Our political and economic leaders are pure hypocrites. They make up rules and taxes that protect their wealth and position and drives the middle and working class away from anywhere near where they live. This here is the definition of the west coast portion of the bicoastal secular progressive elites and their ivory towers.

I live in California in a place far from governing elites and a part where big tech doesn’t venture.

Rents are high in some areas and cheap in other areas, and the reason they are are NOT because of laws, but because of the free market at work. Rich people are going to live in beautiful neighborhoods, beyond the reach of poor people. You will find rich blacks in Beverly Hills, but most of them prefer to live in affluent Baldwin Hills, which is also a beautiful place, but mostly black, they choose to live among people like themselves, so are they hypocrites and engaging in 'inequality' ?

People are going to live where they feel comfortable. For most people, that means living with people like yourself in your class.

I am a senior citizen, and I live in a mobile home park consisting of senior citizens. Am I elitist for doing that?

Are blacks racist because they choose to live in black neighborhoods? In L.A, there are affluent black neighborhoods, ( Baldwin Hills in L.A ) so are those upper class blacks racist or hypocrites because they didn't want to live in Calabasas or Pacific Palisades?

When I was a young lad, I had $1000 invest in a business, shoestring money, so I decided to buy an ice cream truck. Not a glamourous gig, but I would be independent, and I love that feeling. I worked in Calabasas ( white ) and I worked in Compton ( mostly black ) and where do you think I made twice as much money? It was Compton, so that's where I plied my trade. I did this while i went to college

Both reasons I gave above, were due to free market demographics and economics, NOT racism, inequality, or elitism.

Liberal politicians may pander to thugs and minorities, but they don't want to actually live amongst them.

We could argue they don't actually want to help them either ---- just use them for virtue signaling and a voter base ---- but that's a whole other topic ;)

It aint just California. Though, to be fair, I'm real glad they stay in their rich little enclaves. Those snobby elites make for real frustrating neighbors. Im cool with them sticking together and away from the rest of us. But we definitely need to stop letting them make our laws for us.

So what makes them progressive then?

if they were really protecting their wealth they would become Republican and vote for lower taxes and everyone else can pull themselves up by their shoe strings, right?

We all know (from conservatives) that Democrats favour socialist policies that draw money away from the wealthy and provide resources for the poor. So how are these, presumably Democrat progressives self-serving?

When the elite progressives ballyhoo and browbeat actions, they are always talking about you and me but not themselves. Like Pelosi fighting voter IDs but not allowing anyone into the capitol to listen or see her without a picture ID.

they allow some lucky tokens to live amongst them like obama.

This is so typical of plutocratic socialists to complain about what they support: ELITISM. What part of trickle-down socialism is confusing? Trickle-down economics entails the redistribution of wealth from the middle class and poor to the rich, and then let as little as possible trickle down.

Clearly it's safe to say that when it comes to 'the point'......you don't get it.

This quite literally has nothing to do with the thread.

So what! Everyone has the right to live where they want as long as they can afford it. This was not the case under Jim Crow laws in the South or RedLining in the North or before the civil rights laws were enacted and implemented. Oh and during slavery Blacks had to live where theirvmaster told them to. In case you forgot.

Careful....you're sounding like a conservative preaching about all this freedom and stuff.

I thought the left believed that diversity was critically important? You'd think these mostly white neighborhoods would be viewed as incredibly negative and dangerous to the country. Or....maybe the left is full of **** and doesn't actually believe the things they say, they simply say things for political benefit.....who knows.

Yes, there are things that are wrong with the free market. Doesn't mean we get rid of the free market, we correct it's deficiencies with social justice legislation. Nature is similar. I wear glasses.
