Hopefully the NBA, NFL and these other companies go broke. Having given the exemption from covid-19 shutdown is another example proving all of this 100% is a lie. No one more breathes on each other than athletes.

Lol. Nah, just pointing out that name changes have occurred for social reasons in the past, and there was no outcry from anyone. Seems rather unusual for people to be objecting this time.

Honestly it's just going to make Native American culture fade away even faster now.

Get rid of all these reminders of them and soon they will only be in history books.

True. They have made merely mentioning Native Americans prohibited.

This is what I don't understand. Why would you wish doom on American professional sports because the Indians and Redskins are changing names?

Actually it most for their funding the domestic terrorist organization BLM. The result is any money to them is money to BLM.

However, their having an absurd exception to covid-19 rules because their owners are billionaires and many players millionaires is outrageous.

They're heavily monitored. Games have been postponed, teams heavily fined, and a wide receiver had to play quarterback because they all had covid. They have an exception because people want football, especially with covid. And because they can afford to do it safely.

The thread is about name changes, so what's your opinion on that? You don't think anyone should be punished for changing their names, do you?

Well, if it were a hockey team, the Cleveland Blizzard would be a good name. And, if we were talking about a college football squad, the Cleveland Storm is not bad. For baseball, though...you know, "Snowflakes," might just work! I mean, think how hard it would be trying to catch a fly ball under WHITE-OUT conditions. Actually, the Cleveland Flurries sounds even better!

Football and baseball players get in each others faces - breathing extremely heavily - nearly as likely to infect each other as if they were French kissing.

Yes, they should because among other reasons it works a fraud. People pay BIG money for sports items for which the owner takes a huge trademark profit. People rely that down the road those items can grow in value. By changing the name they reduce the value. I do not see professional sports as a social good to begin with, particularly since sports instead became political activism and most sports teams now are openly anti-American. I hope they go broke. Then they can go try to be the politicians they want to be.

That's why they're tested, quarantined and suspended for violating covid restrictions.

But this has happened before, and nobody went broke. Why would you hope they go broke?

Thanks for taking a stand on a name; that's what I had in mind when I started this thread. You know, when I saw that name in the article, it didn't really grab me. But your presentation has me thinking it's a pretty decent name, which is a little upsetting to me, since I was already developing partisan feelings towards it being the Cleveland Fellers. And if I'm being honest with myself, your choice seems more likely.

The only other prospective name, a kind of collaboration between me & Unapologetically'merican, I'm now almost embarrassed about: the Cleveland Flurries (hey, that lake-effect snow will really send you for a loop!).

I just think it works because of the RnR HOF.
(Which is less than a Mile away in Downtown Cleveland).

    Certainly there are other options.

And, I am sure that designers are working on those other potential team names.

In the LONG TERM, I think you're mistaken. 50 yrs from now, Cleveland Indian merchandise will be much more valuable than merch sporting their new name (let's just call 'em the Fellers, for now).

I know, however, this wasn't central to your discontent towards sports franchises.

At least, the change wasn't abrupt.

They are keeping the Indians name for 2021.

Lotsa time left to horde the Iconic Throwback Merchandise.

Without looking it up, what was the name of Boston's baseball team that dissolved in the 1950s? 50 years from now virtually no one would have any clue who the Cleveland Indians were or even what sport. But you are correct that isn't really my complaints and basis of dislike.

Professional baseball is a dying sport anyway. It was a big deal when there were not TVs and people could go watch a game almost every day. But baseball it an incredibly slow, boring sport. I'm not a sports fan, but can enjoy watching a football game. But baseball? Professional golf and bowling are faster paced and more interesting that baseball to watch.

    Braves? Moved to Milwaukee.

They weren't "dissolved" (just relocated) to Milwaukee and then Atlanta.

Sure, an easy Google look up. What do you think the value of Boston Braves collectables is?

    MLB isn't "dying".

    And, you know why?

Professional bettors LOVE betting on Baseball.

    MLB WILL NEVER DIE.

    Yeah.

But, why did you say they were "dissolved", when they were only relocated and the Braves name is still in use by the Atlanta franchise?

An authenticated Babe Ruth Jersey, a Warren spahn Jersey, Etc.

However, all of that stuff can easily be located on throwback sites.

Even in Canada we called Cleveland "The Mistake by the Lake"

The team should run with that theme for their new name: "The Cleveland Mistakes".
