The guy who wrote this is an RCC iconoclast with no authority.

""Some terrible stuff happens to women in Middle Eastern countries""

Some terrible stuff happens to women all over the world ...because of sexist attitudes like yours.

LOl, ya, they'll use any excuse....and of course, anything strictly female(menstruation) is a fault (to them...)

With or without authority, it is believed in some religions that women are “unclean” and therefore are excluded from certain rituals. Doesn’t make it right , it’s what they practice.

What rituals? Keep it in the present day instead of ancient history.

I don't think we should tolerate Catholicism until it changes.
The Catholic League should be sent a cease and desist order until their church stops being offensive.

Why does having a penis make one better than a person who doesn't have a penis???????

    No one ever said that.

Catholics believe men and women are equal. (But equal does not mean the same, or that they get treated exactly the same and interchangeable in all situations)

    YES, they did.
    Right here :
    """"CKW said:
I belong to a Southern Baptist church and we believe men should be the leaders of the church and believe it biblically sound."""""""

NO, THEY DON'T or women could be Popes and Bishops and hear confessions and say Mass..

Yup, that's true in the Catholic Church....they cook up all kinds of EXCUSES to deny women EQUAL rights, equal opportunities, equal treatment in "situations"...

It's based on silly superstition, but it's their organization, and they get to make the rules for it, just as we are free to criticize the ignorance of those rules.

You are talking about a different kind of "equality".
Women DO have equal rights in the Catholic Church, with the only exception that they can't serve as priests, there is segregation of the sexes in many situations, and the clerical hierarchy usually (but not absolutely always) gets drawn from the priests, so therefore women generally get excluded from those positions.

I don't know why you'd want to become a member of this clerical hierarchy. For one thing you, as a woman, would have to take a vow of chastity, and those on the Progressive Left believe "becoming a nun" is just about the worst thing that could happen to a woman.

What opportunities are you being denied that you would actually want so much?
I'm pretty sure any woman whom would actually aspire to that position does not have a problem with that gender-selective policy.

    "Equal rights" with exceptions . . . isn't equal . . . by definition

Another option for women is to start a separate offshoot branch order of the Catholic Church, like Mother Angelica did when she founded EWTN.

Many hospitals were founded by orders of nuns.

Mother Angelica was not in an "offshoot" of the RCC, she was a recognized religious.

It's another option, yes, but they aren't allowed to serve as clergy.

There are several types of areas of leadership in the church that are not in the clergy.

Let me point out that almost none of those complaining about this will ever become a member of the Catholic Church.

Are there any of you here that would be willing to live the life of a nun to have a tiny tiny chance of getting to be the pope?

Yes, and there is not equal access to those areas of leadership, and the highest levels of leadership are still exclusively for men.

Both men and women are created in the image of God and equally valued. No one but you assumed that a man is better because they have a penis.

Why are you so concerned about the concept of "equal access"?

For one thing, there will never be "equality" because the organization is hierarchical.

 The male priesthood is not a policy of the Church but an unalterable requirement of God. As with priests and bishops, the church ordains only men as deacons
These reasons include: the example recorded in the Sacred Scriptures of Christ choosing his Apostles only from among men; the constant practice of the Church, which has imitated Christ in choosing only men.

And if they did they'd complain about the clergy they want women to be.

Yes, it seems like each of these gimmicks is about an opportunity to get their foot in the door to be in a position to complain about more things.

If the Catholic Church met all of today's demands, there'd be an even bigger list of demands tomorrow.

Because the distinction here is superstitious and arbitrary, without any rational justification. Hence, I'm criticizing them.

    Superstitious from your perspective.

Isn't the whole religion of Catholicism superstitious from your perspective?
So if the Catholic Church starts trying to bend, where does this end?
