Nobody should take anything that Trump says at face value.

For start the source could come forward and provide evidence of how they know of the pardon request the report claims. That would include identifying themselves. But we are long past the point of having any actual verifiable sources or anything verifiable at all. It's simply not a requirement by any news outlet standards anymore.
