I don't know the blow by blow, but it sounds like someone made a claim and Trump claimed it was false. I don't know of ANY news or information source that would spend significant time on tracking down a claim about whether Trump was asked for a pardon on this. Beyond that, the real problem with Trump and pardons is that he handed them out like jujubees to friends who obviously committed serious offenses against America and as pretty clear bonuses to those who helped subvert America's form of government.
Bold sentence has nothing to do with the OP. A report cites an anonymous source for the claim they made. I'm going to claim the source was a former WH gardener. Why do you think a former WH gardener knows about an alleged pardon request made to the former President. Where did the gardener get this information? In contrast, a direct party to the claim has publicly and in full view stated such claim is unfounded.
The part you bolded is the part where Trump's credibility on pardons went to die. He has rock solid, well earned history of pardon abuse. Thus, one more case is meaningless. And, that's the point. I don't see your second paragraph as meaningful.
You are putting the credibility of a named source verse the credibility no source. What is the credibility of nothing? By your standards, since you believe Trump lacks credibility, anything can be claimed about him without evidence or sources should hold validity? This is as much a claim about Trump that is is about Gaetz now. Sources used to meet standards. Over the last decade we have seen that standard go completely. It is non-stop. The start of this exchange was questioning "how could one debunk Trumps statement". My answer still stands, reveal the source of information. Why is that so taboo these days to have verifiable sources of information.
Trump is blunt but don't mistake that for honesty. He honestly doesn't know what the truth is. He has many weaknesses. Yes, professional politicians are "dishonest". I put that in quotes because while they may stretch the truth, many are actually trying to do good things for society. The MSM is not dishonest.
Donald Trump can't debunk a story about whether he wears briefs or boxers. He is not to be seen as credible or reliable source on any story whatsoever. I literally will believe any homo sapiens that is not a compulsive pathological liar, over any homo sapiens that is a compulsive pathological liar. Being as such pathological liars are not commonplace. Its more likely than not that the Times unnamed sources ought to be believed over Trump.
They work Trump angles into stories for ratings, and they have never hesitated to lie about Trump, sources, or anything else. Katie "Throuple" Hill just published an op-ed for Vanity Fair about Matt Gaetz and what a terrible person he is for releasing nude photos of someone else. The judge just threw her own case out. She was banging her staffer and her husband in threesomes, then dumped them both to start banging a male staffer. Her husband, who had agreed to share her with one other woman, as long as he could also share that other woman, divorced her when she cheated on him with another man, and released nude photos of her with the young female staffer that they were sharing, they knew he was photgraphing them nude. The judge tossed the suit as both the story and the photos were protected by the First Amendment and were of compelling interest to the public because they detailed her affair with a campaign staffer, pictured her using drugs that were illegal at the time, and exposed her iron cross crotch tattoo, a white supremacy symbol that had become an issue during her congressional campaign. She claims she was actually the victim here, but the judge did not agree, and she's really not a fan of Gaetz.
Members of this forum have been challenged several times to provide a single example of Trump telling a lie. Too my surprise, so far no one has been able to rise to that challenge. The MSM is a notorious liar. Virtually no one still trusts the MSM. Of course, some still pretend to trust the Fake News MSM. "What makes ethical transgressions by the media harder to swallow is our holier-than-thou attitude toward the rest of the world. Many of those who demand answers for a living turn out to be pretty thin-skinned when the questions are pointed in their direction. ... None of this is surprising - why should media conglomerates behave differently from other Fortune 500 companies? - but somehow it's still disappointing." Howard Kurtz, "Media Circus," Times Books, NY 1993, p. 121.
The MSM has been a broken institution for decades. "Most Journalists, of course, don't like to think of themselves as *anybody's* advocate, but that's most likely because advocacy of elite interests comes so easily that it scarcely seems like bias at all." Jonathon Cohn, quoted by James Fallows in "Breaking The News," 1996, at p. 79. (emphasis Cohn's) A few honest journalists have bothered to lament the MSM's increasingly obvious loss of credibility.
You can't honestly be serious about providing a single example of Trump telling a lie!! What got him elected? "Mexico will pay for the wall!!" Please!!!
You know what's funny? You saying the MSM has been broken for decades......and then quoting people from decades ago!! Hell, one of them was fired for writing things that weren't accurate!!
LOL! If they fired journalists just "writing things that weren't accurate" we would not have any journalists or Fake News. Even the editors of the bastions of Fake News are finally gagging on their product and admitting what everyone already knows: MSM = Fake News. "However, Weiss wrote, “Instead, a new consensus has emerged in the press, but perhaps especially at this paper: that truth isn’t a process of collective discovery, but an orthodoxy already known to an enlightened few whose job is to inform everyone else.” Don’t expect the Times to respond to the specifics of Weiss’ criticisms, at least not at this time. In a statement, Eileen Murphy, the Times’ senior vice president, communications, said, “We’re committed to fostering an environment of honest, searching and empathetic dialogue between colleagues, one where mutual respect is required of all.” POYNYTER.ORG, Here is Weiss’ resignation letter in full, By Tom Jones, July 14, 2020. https://www.poynter.org/business-wo...bari-weiss-new-york-times-resignation-letter/
True silliness.... T**** didn't shoot anything down... Gaetz didn't ask directly, and the "MSM" never claimed otherwise.... Unless you don't understand the difference between the words "sought" and "asked"?? SNIP The Times noted that it was not clear whether Gaetz directly addressed the matter with Trump, though aides were said to have relayed the request. ENDSNIP Question... do you buy the turd polishing wax in bulk??
It answers your previous question. The Mexican government paid to secure our border while the wall was being built. What do you think it cost to deploy 27,000 troops?
You are just repeating Fake News. Weiss was not fired. She resigned. "Kathleen Kingsbury, acting editorial page editor of the Times, said in a statement, “We appreciate the many contributions that Bari made to Times Opinion. I’m personally committed to ensuring that The Times continues to publish voices, experiences and viewpoints from across the political spectrum in the Opinion report. We see every day how impactful and important that approach is, especially through the outsized influence The Times’s opinion journalism has on the national conversation.” POYNYTER.ORG, Here is Weiss’ resignation letter in full, By Tom Jones, July 14, 2020. https://www.poynter.org/business-wo...bari-weiss-new-york-times-resignation-letter/" NYT = MSM = Fake News. By now every one knows that - including the NYT's own editors who are finally admitting the inconvenient truth.
The Mexican government paid to secure our border while the wall was being built. What do you think it cost to deploy 27,000 troops? Is that a tough question to answer?
