It's not likely that a criminal will go to the cops and say the person they tried to rob didn't have his weapon and ammunition in separate lockboxes.

I'm not trying to speak for @The Ant but I think we all view the world through our own lens which is shaped by our upbringing, culture and social constructs. With that in mind, it only follows that a person in another country with a different style leadership and compliance ratios will view our problems here in the US differently than we do. It's not that he is wrong. It's just that his perspective comes from a different world view.

 

Never. The only thing that will keep the rabid left at bay is an armed citizenry. It isn't about self defense from the scumbags, it is about collectively being able to defend ourselves when the government becomes tyrannical.

I've heard this argument many times. I find it curious as justification for bearing arms because a tyrannical government is represented by the military, law enforcement and National Guard. In the event of all hell breaking loose, it is unlikely one person with a few weapons will be able to stop it. If anything, it sounds like a quick way to get oneself incarcerated if not outright killed.

 

You will note that he said "collectively". There are only roughly 1 million combined military and law enforcement personnel in the United States, half of which probably would refuse orders to fire upon U.S. citizens. There are 200 million gun owners in the United States. So, they are outnumbered 200 to 1. I like my odds better. Not to mention, if things did get that bad to where our entire military and law enforcement were busy fighting the armed citizenry, another country such as Russia or China could use that commotion to come right over here and steamroll us while we are busy fighting each other....

 

That puts it in perspective for me. Thanks. I'm hoping we don't get to that point.

Again, it would destroy the country. Not going to happen. It would be a bloodbath on both sides. Don't underestimate 200 million people with guns, a lot of which are former military/law enforcement with training. I'm sure the local National Guard and law enforcement would think twice about killing U.S. citizens when their own families started to get abducted and slaughtered in retribution...

 

If you need a reminder of what a determined, armed populace can do to a military force, just look at Vietnam and Afghanistan....

 

And those 200 million gun owners aren't just going to line up like ducks in a row waiting for you to kill them. You will have to go house to house, for years, incurring countless casualties in the process. Again, not going to happen...

You know the sickening part is the left would call for the most brutal force possible to crush conservative Americans. Their humanitarian proclivities would evaporate when faced with armed resistance. At some point a state or two are going to attempt succession. When they do the left will lash out and we might see this doomsday scenario play out. I'm surprised after covid and the steal succession hasn't been tossed around more.

 

The second amendment itself says “well regulated”. Simply placing background checks, waiting periods, psychological screenings even up to requirements for insurance and liability (and eventually technology based solutions) would not necessarily require any changes to the constitution.

It's estimated over 40% of households own one or more guns, well over 300 million guns. As for the will to fight, I laugh at that assertation of yours

If anything we are doing the founders a disservice by not having more militias. Of course we know how the left would respond if large militia groups started popping up. Could you imagine?

 

Also, folks who sit in trees all day, waiting for something to shoot at. You grossly underestimate the will of Americans to fight when Govs turn against their own people. If not for American fighters, much of the world would be speaking German and Japanese. Many of our boys in WW2 required little firearms training, being rural hunters to begin with.

No where near 150 Millon gun owners. Estimate is 35% of adult population which is about 70 million gun owners and within that group you have grandma with her pistol that has never actually learnt how to load and fire it.
