The nation experienced one of its deadliest mass shootings this week, allegedly perpetrated by a disaffected youth who was plagued by family dysfunction and mental health struggles.

Salvador Rolando Ramos, 18, was said to be a high school dropout fascinated with guns. After turning 18, Ramos immediately bought a rifle which he later used to murder at least 21 people, 19 of which were elementary-age school children, according to The Washington Post.

Former friends and family of Ramos say he stopped showing up to school after the pandemic, adding that Ramos experienced bullying for his lisp and for sometimes wearing makeup. Classmates noted that after Ramos stopped showing up to school his larger, stocky figure had dwindled to a skinny, fragile one.

Ramos was described by former classmates and friends as initially being “nice,” “quiet” and “shy," but when that changed several of Ramos's friends indicated they backed away from their friendship with him.

Santos Valdez Jr, one of Ramos’s early childhood friends, told The Post he lost touch when Ramos’s behavior started to deteriorate.

And Ramos, who was a ticking time bomb - like all gun nuts in this country - was able to legally obtain two AR-15s as soon as he turned 18.

No background checks, no questions asked.

Since the beginning of the year, 296 innocent Americans have died in mass shootings.

    60 each month....

All killed by people who had no trouble getting the tool to slaughter them.

    Price of freedom, isn't it?

He was a tranny. Should we ban trannies from owning guns?

How do you know he didn't do a BGC and fill out a 4473?

    I have no idea.

Either he didn't make one and any crazy can get an AR-15 in Texas.

Or he did.... and any crazy can get an AR-15 in Texas.

Which one do you like the most?

Where you were going to explain https://ucr.fbi.gov/crime-in-the-u.s/2018/crime-in-the-u.s.-2018/tables/table-43 WHO was committing the lions' share of violence in the US? Or is that harder to answer than getting a rifle?

What does his apparent mental illness have to do with his sexuality or transgenderism?

Unfortunately, we either ignore the warning signs or worse, we medicate them with products that diminish ones value of human life. I bought a rifle when I was 18. Why does that make me a nut?

It has nothing to do with that.

Why is it that the US is one of the easiest places in the world for a crazy to get a gun? .... and incidentally to kill dozens of innocent people.

    Are you comfortable with that?

I haven’t found this to be true. Is there definite proof of this?

Because we have rights and stuff. That damn Constitution doesn't have a clause that denies people their rights before they actually commit a crime. Sucks, don't it?

Some far right conservatives would argue his sexuality is a mental illness in of itself, but the gender debate wars would detract from this tragedy and a seriously difficult question: Should we raise the age limit on guns to 25? Actually hell, how about 35? It should be something for people of extreme mental and physical maturity to own one.

2nd trangender mass murderer in as many years..... kind of turning into a trend. Believing you are a girl when you are a boy is mental illness. Pretending otherwise is harmful to the mentally ill person and to society.

I see, so it looks like he developed anorexia, a mental health condition of over-conscious insecurity about body image.
More common in teen girls and LGBT men.

There are plenty of teens and 18 year olds "fascinated with guns". That is not something that is "abnormal".

Males are statistically a hundred times more likely to commit rape than a female is, but that does not mean we view a person being a male as a sign they could likely be a rapist. Nor is it a reason to worry about being burglarized if a black neighbor moves in next door.

Does he get more scrutiny because he also happened to be Hispanic, a high school dropout, and a possibly loony transgender?
Do the "warning signs" (as you see them) cumulatively add together like points?

They are everywhere in the world.

But it is only in the US that the craziest of them can so easily get what it takes to kill a bunch of innocent people.

There should be more security measures put in place at our schools. But, y'all don't want to do that

In Colorado, they passed a law forcing people to choose between gun rights and marijuana rights.

Conservatives totally warned everyone this would happen when the "Gun Free School Zones" Act was passed in 1990.

There was an armed security guard in the schoolyard and he exchanged fire with Ramos.

There was another one inside the school but he didn't have time to intervene before the shooter entered a classroom and massacred all those children.

But I guess your solution is to add even more armed guards?

.... And above all, avoid at all costs talking about gun control.

Is it harder to get than illegal drugs?

Because those laws haven't been too successful.

I suspect these problems have more to do with the demographics of the US, because they are very different than other "developed countries".
Although that may start to change soon in many of these other developed countries.
