Why don't we admit the obvious and split the country into two?

You're on a political forum.

The truth is, this decision is an actual compromise in effect. Every State gets to make it's own decision on abortion. I don't understand this secession idea getting strange new respect on the left for a decision that still allows you to vacuum out as many fetuses as you want. If any court decision is a win/win it's this one.

 

But it's not just this decision.

McConnell hasn't dismissed a Federal ban that would apply to all states.

Thomas's concurring opinion has suggested the possibility of all decisions relating to substantive due process: same-sex marriage (even relationships), contraception, even his own interracial marriage could potentially come in to question depending on who's heeding his words. I'd rather people living in whichever country I choose would be protected for sure from those eventualities. As it stands they're not. That's pretty stressful and unnecessary for a lot of folks.

 

Why dont both sides just be honest, stop making up stuff about why whatever it is, is
the fault of someone else, decide on what the US stands for and stop throwing snowballs.
Honestly if it werent so dangerous it would be a sitcom or a new game in the playground.

i have a better idea. these so called "conservative" savages can become civilized or we should turn the old wal marts into reservations "jade helm" style. as long as they are supplied with cheaply made chinese consumer products and plenty of ammunition ........

 

Well I wouldn't worry about McConnell. He also promised to end Obamacare "root and branch." I'm still waiting for him to get his gardening tools out. However a federal ban on abortion would be one that would interfere with your State. However we're not there and likely will never be. All those other issues I've addressed in other threads, and the odds of a "case or controversy" coming before the SC on those issues is almost zero. But even if they did, again, it wouldn't effect your state. It would just allow each state to be free to choose.

I'm honestly not trying to antagonize anyone. I'm just trying to find a way for everybody to get what that want and live in a place where others share their values and where their rights won't come under attack from those who don't.

 

I'd like those choices to be codified so people don't feel they're living on a knife edge all the time.

 

No need to split the country. Everyone just needs to honor the decisions by the SCOTUS.

So this entire idea is nothing but fantasy. There's not going to be a civil war there's not going to be a division of the country.

That's another argument for another day but, so far we haven't attacked Canada and they're as close as can be.

The US split before because Democrats did not get their way. How did that work out?

 

It is a pretty stupid idea that is not going to happen.

 

Honestly, that's not why I created the thread. I'd genuinely like to see everybody on both sides get to live how they want.

 

Everything starts with an idea. Wouldn't you be happier in country X than country Y?
