Video shows women who appear to be sex workers soliciting right outside a Catholic grade school in East Oakland is raising concerns about human trafficking in the area. https://abc7ne.ws/40l46q1

I guess given the nature of the Bay Area in Northern California in this day and age the parents should be glad they aren't having to step over feces, used needles and homeless encampments. Instead these are the "lucky ones" who only have to deal with their children witnessing pimps, prostitutes and the customers that solicit and frequent them.

Clearly there were a lot of calls, inquiries and concerns raised before someone raised it with the local news station. This represents nothing being done. Even the news article itself notes that their footage was recorded over at least four days.

How can anyone endorse this sort of lack of public safety, this failure to deliver services to the public and this sort of discredit to our children? Will it end when some of the local children are kidnapped and then are taken and trafficked somewhere else? How can we believe that no one votes, protests or works to change this type of situation?

Just legalize it already! This will make lots of these problems go away.

You would not think there would be many customers for alleged whores outside a school.

Right. You would think there are better places to pick up customers.

How do you think many of those kids get to that school in the first place? Seems like it might be prime pickins, especially for a 40-year-old newly single dude who hasn't been laid in 3 or 4 years.

That is a bad look in front of your kids, their friends, other parents and teachers. Especially in front of a Catholic school.

Typically they are dropped off by their parents or they go by school bus. The article didn't say anything about anyone preying on the kids, - it was about hookers near schools. Of course a sexual predator COULD approach a school as well, but this story was not about that.

Yes, I would expect them to get picked up by LE pretty soon

Sounds like people in Oakland have a problem.

I can't imagine why any of the rest of us should be spending any time thinking about it.

There is no role for the federal government to play here, so it's really none of our business.

Well, you see, that's the point. Governor Newsome passed a law preventing the police from rousting prostitutes. They are free to ply their trade anywhere. i
I guess it is part of the progressive project to make cities unliveable

    You are correct.

California repeals provision criminalizing loitering related to possible prostitution

A controversial California bill repealing loitering related to possible prostitution was signed into law Friday by Gov. Gavin Newsom.

A provision in state law previously allowed police to arrest those who “delay or linger without a lawful purpose” if it appeared they were trying to engage in sex work. Police can no longer use this charge, and those who have been convicted are able to petition the court for resentencing or dismissal, according to the law’s language.

I don't disagree. But from a business development perspective,it's pretty smart.

I've always subscribed to the school of thought that it shouldn't be a crime to sell something that's perfectly legal to give away. However, zoning regs should be in place to dictate where they can ply their wares.

I heard Hunter Biden wants to know where this school is and the Big Guy said if he was going to visit the kids to take him with him.

Isn’t it mostly women who deliver kids to school?
Do you mean that the loitering females are catering to the same sex market?

Why not? Schools are commonly in populated areas where plenty of people not affiliated with the school will yet happen to be. Most likely some pimps got runoft their turf by other pimps, so they found a spot that wasn't anyones turf yet because its a school.

I believe the OP was also suggesting a worry that some of the prostitutes are kids that were groomed from the school... for some kids (with bad home lives, for example), prostitution might look like a reasonable way out, what with kids not being very wise and all.

I saw a fleeting reference to human trafficking but it fizzled out.
