Who is going to check and see if people are using the safe? Are you suggesting the police randomly search peoples homes to see if they’re in compliance with a safe mandate?

    AR-15 pistol, in 9mm.
Aside form the absence of a sight, how is this not suitable for home defense?
How is this not a better choice than a 9mm handgun?

Of course there are laws that would have prevented this. In the UK you need a medical experts positive opinion about your mental state in order to be able to buy a gun. It's you GOP people who support the idea that any psycho gets a gun, without questions as long as they haven't been busted being a psycho.

Do you think a medical expert would give you a pass on your mental state when the expert reads such a profound nonsense? lol

Ah. Transpeople are psychos and should not have guns.
    Good to know.

I will predicate my comment with these observations^ (in the second sentence) since I am 100% pro 2A and you generally don't see me partaking in killing and violence threads. Assuming that the weapons used were AR styled as reports indicate, the damage rendered by the round's design in this specific non-military weapon is unique as compared to the majority of civilian weapons available to the public. A shotgun is generally less efficient, less accurate and more unwieldly in comparison. My 2 cents worth....

    It’s too visible.
IMO, As a civilian you only want the perp to see it after you fire. Draw. Fire. If you stop to think about what you are about to do you may freeze.

We have a people problem. However, we can now say as a percentage of the population, trans persons are responsible for the most mass murders.

    Sort of.

On paper, yes, there was a ban.

In the real world, the manufacturers just made a few cosmetic adjustments (as what is and is not considered an 'assault weapon' is defined solely by cosmetics), and continued selling the exact same weapons. Usually they removed the bayonet lugs and flash suppressor, neither of which change the function of the weapon. And despite the name, flash suppressors only tone down the barrel flash, it doesn't hide it, silence the sound of the firearm, or make them invisible to see, even in broad daylight.

You also may see people claim that said ban led to a reduction in crimes and/or mass shootings. Neither is true.

Yes, during the period of the 'ban', crimes went down, but that trend started before the ban, and continued long after it ended. Nobody is really sure exactly why, but I think the most likely story is that it corresponds almost exactly to the time that unwanted pregnancies that were terminated in the wake of the Roe decision who otherwise might have been born to parents who didn't want them, an environment that frequently leads to a criminal lifestyle, would have been reaching peak crime-committing age. However, that is not the only theory out there, and it's one of those questions that are interesting to discuss and theorize about, but that are fundamentally unanswerable, and we'll never know with any certainty. This trend ended in 2020, after the pandemic, the defund the police movement, and the summer of violence. It has continued rising as prosecutors are failing to prosecute criminals which emboldens them, and the elimination of cash bail which releases actual criminals back into society where they can continue committing more and more crimes until (and unless) they actually get prosecuted and sentenced to a timeout.

So yeah, there was a ban, but it didn't mean, or do, a thing, except make those weapons look a little strange.

we know both the civilian semi and military 3 round or full auto use the same round. We also know the ar9 uses a 9 mm, and the smith semi looked like a 9. This guy could have chosen a variety of weapons and accomplished this murder with ease, given the soft nature of the building and the targets.

watching the vid makes it clear this guy was not a regular shooter. He’s totally awkward and clumsy, I’m sure you’ve seen it too. With this person being less than proficient I have to wonder if their choice was made simple because they’re just simple minded when it comes to guns. We both know you don’t duel wield carbines like in the movies, what was this idiot thinking?

Lol, if you think the only people who should have a gun are people who a doc prescribed one, you should walk away. Just when I thought I read the dumbest line ever, here this comes. So no, there isn’t a law that would prevent this, but not one against saying silly things.

the main hassle of the clinton gun ban was in the area of competitive shooting-specifically USPSA matches. about the time the clinton gun ban hit-the open division of USPSA was transitioning away from 8 shot 45 semi auto pistols and 9-10 shot 38 Super guns (I won't get into an explanation of Major power scoring vs Minor Power) and the introduction of the Para-Ordnance 1911 frame meant shooters could use 15 round pistols that scored MAJOR (9mm didn't and was prevented from being loaded to MAJOR levels). The clinton gun ban caused newly made magazines to be unavailable to private citizens. Ones made before the ban (and police departments were offered brand new magazines in trade for old ones that dealers could then sell to private citizens) were legal to own buy and sell. So those of us using firearms that had lots of magazines in circulation, were really not impacted. Just new shooters. which of course was one of the main goals of gun banners. To cut down on the number of citizens enjoying some shooting sports. Now, with 3D printers and the fact that most of us bought tons of spare magazines (and makers are getting smarter-CZ's newest handguns use the same magazines as older pistols) and the sunset of the ban and the re-election of Bush allowed smart owners to get lots of extra magazines (I saw offers for a 100 GLOCK 17 magazines for under 1300 dollars and a case lot of military spec AR 15 magazines for 500 dollars for 100)

Now anytime that gun banners start squealing about magazine limits, people stock up

    Utter nonsense.
5.56x45 is, on ts best day, an intermediate-power cartridge, so intermediate that most people - and several states - consider it under-powered for hunting deer.
In an enclosed area against defenseless people unable to flee... none of this applies.
And them there's the damage 00 or 000 buckshot will do, compared to 5.56.

"She would have found another way in" isn't an excuse for nonexistent physical security.

    A 9mm has more penetration than a .223.

    That is complete misinformation.

There is nothing special or "unique" about the round for this weapon (which is not even, in most cases, a military round to begin with) that makes it any more dangerous than a similar sized round fired from any other rifle. Nothing. Now, as I hinted at, there are dozens of different kinds of different .223 caliber rounds available. The military style, or 'ball' ammo, is otherwise known as a full metal jacket round, and is just that. It has a rounded tip that tends to go straight through people, light body armor, bricks, blocks, metal, and all kinds of different things. I only use these at the range, because they are less expensive. I prefer a jacketed hollow-point round for any real life self-defense scenarios for two reasons. First, because they expand within a human body, they have more stopping power, and is more likely to put an end to any threat with a center of mass target hit, which is much easier said than done, especially in a RL situation where your adrenaline is pumping, your nerves are frayed, and you are scared out of your mind. Second, because they expand, they are less likely to penetrate the entire body of a bad guy and hit an innocent bystander, or penetrate a wall, or TV, or dishwasher, or whatever may be found in a residential environment and injure or kill someone in the next room or next door neighbor's house/apartment/whatever.

I don't use those at the range, except that once every few years I will use mine up there and replace them so I don't have failures due to age when I really need them. Which I hope is never.

But, otherwise, a .223 is a .223 is a .223, and same for say a 7.62mm coming from an AK-74, or a .3030 caliber, a 9mm, a .45, or whatever. Rifle rounds are more forceful than pistol rounds because the extra time in the barrel makes them faster. F=ma, where F is force, m is mass, and a is acceleration. The more mass, the more power, and same for speed (or in this case, negative acceleration).

As rifle rounds go, a .223 is the 2nd smallest round at least in common use, that I know of anyway. The only smaller being the good old .22lr, that many of us of a male persuasion remember from Boy Scouts, though I have no idea if learning to shoot is still done in that organization.

PS... AR stands for Armalite, the original company that designed the AR-15, that they named after... Themselves! Colt owns that trademark today, so any "AR" that is not a Colt is really not an "AR", even if it looks like one.

The rounds are designed to tumble on impact creating massive trauma to the intended victim, hence, the reason why it's THE weapon of choice to a mass shooter. As I said, my 2 cents to anyone trying to spin or convolute factual reality. Keep the faith but face facts. The police response time also deserves a loud cheer.

You have fallen for the propaganda; nothing you stated, above, is true.

Please tell me at what point in time since the public school was invented, was no governmental control utilized to restrict what is and is not allowed to be in libraries for those schools? I'll wait...

So given that the GOP wants to remove books that are already in those libraries..why the change of heart? Harry Potter books were already in the libraries...why are they trying to be removed now? What changed in those books that allowed them in but now means they need to be removed.

Don’t have to. It only really kicks in if you have a gun stolen (keeping the out of the hands of criminals) or if that gun is used in a criminal activity.

Why and how are books more threatening than lock down drills?
