<<< MOD EDIT: INSULT REMOVED >>> I carry collision insurance so I don't care what the other driver has in insurance. Our kids were placed in a Spanish immersion program, sitting side-by-side with Hispanics and others, learning how to speak Spanish and today is was the best possible experience they could have had. Immigrants, whether they might be illegal or those who are legal, have a profound effect on our lives every day. Our entire culture where I live not only depends on immigrants but also welcomes them.
In BOLD above...now there's an intelligent statement...and so meaningful!! Just pick any numbers you wish to support your polarized positions...to hell with government and educated information...
You are making the assumption that illegals are here to become citizens. Most that come here are men, leaving their families behind (it is cheaper for them to live south of the border). They are here to earn money to improve their life back home. One guy I met was here just long enough to pay for a home he had built. If you want to open the borders, open them globally. We are a melting pot, because there was diversity. Because we ignore a contiguous border, most of the illegals are Hispanic, and most of them are from Mexico. Their numbers are high enough they have no need to melt.
There are much more compelling arguments to be made against illegal immigration then economic ones. Namely, not wanting to see America fall apart at the seams.
Insulting fellow forum members is a violation of the TOS. Don't do it again. There are policy limits on your uninsured motorist, collision and comprehensive insurance coverage. When the limits are exceeded you are on your own. Spanish Immersion results in students who aren' proficient in either English or Spanish. Lots of construction jobs have been taken over by illegals. And American contractors are unemployed. Your culture and my culture are the same. You live in Santa Rosa while I live in Santa Cruz. Our culture is the same. Your assertion that our entire culture welcomes them is false.
THIS THREAD IS MEANT TO FOCUS ON HOW INFRASTRUCTURE RELATES TO IMMIGRATION ! Please, let us not discuss other aspects of immigration here, there is another "immigration" section in this forum. If you want to talk about other aspects of immigration, please take it there. Appropriate topics in this thread are about roads, bridges, transportation, utilities (electric, water, fuel gas). If you are pro-immigration, you might want to concentrate on how low cost construction laborers make building projects less expensive (at least directly).
But not old enough to open your Eyes on a Drive from Marina Del Rey to Arizona Border through Palm Springs & Around Salton Sea? The Barrio Burbs ( & their Ecological issues) along the way (Especially from Downtown LA /East LA ON ARE STAGGERING . or drive around the outskirts of Fresno or Bakersfield or Fountain Valley or Fullerton , wake up & open your eyes
Ditto ,I consider Illegal Immigration the #1 Domestic problem we face (Both on an Infrastructure & Ecological front and Econemy /Jobs/ Debt /Security/War front
Why do we allow large corporations to break the law and hire illegals, suppress wages and exploit people who come from other countries? Oh I forgot, it's the illegal workers' fault for working. I love xenophobia; it's so telling.
It's nice to see some hospitable Americans on here for a change. " ... several studies have shown the illegal immigrant population is more of an economic contributor to state and local economies than politicians like to tell an angry electorate. The numbers can be broken down into the fiscal cost (or gain) of illegal immigrants to states, along with the economic contribution of the population." More Rich Israelis in Tel Aviv need to hire West Bank Arab Housepainters to paint their childrens bedrooms (While the Children are in them )
ROTFL - I love your assumptions, they are so telling.... This is where both parties have their fingers in the punch bowl - the Democrats want voters, both parties are getting "contributions" by those that employ illegals. Both enforce the immigration equivalent to don't ask, don't tell. The media (also taking "contributions" in the form of advertizing) almost never puts the word illegal in front of the work immigrant when it belongs there. These employers want to keep them illegal. Once their are legal, they have to pay minimum wage or higher, and they can't threaten to call ICE. You want to fix illegal immigration, bust companies that hire illegals. We won't need to deport. Eliminate the work, the incentive to cross illegal goes away. But neither party is willing to do that. Call your congress critters and watch them bob and weave...
Can you identify a couple of things that you believe illegals cause 'America to fall apart at the seams'?
All out Gangbanging & Cartel Warfare & unfetterd horrible non-eco friendly clearcutting & pot Growing practices in our forrests, Shere numbers overwhelming our Schools & Hospitals & Social Services , Crime & horrific Automobile crashes & burdonsome filling of our Prisons & Jails ...
It IS NOT required that one be pro or anti-immigration. To do this serves no purpose other than to fuel politics and wasteful dialogue. Name a single problem caused by illegals and this is what should be discussed...
It isn't really the illegals themselves. But bringing in a torrent of people with of a different race, ethnic group, language, and culture all concentrated in a distinct region, can't really turn out to well in the end.
You have 37+ million population in CA. 38% are Latinos. 41% are non-Latino whites. It is estimated there are 2.5 million illegals in CA Illegals are 6.8% of the entire CA population. In case you don't know your history, it was only 160 years ago that the US forced Mexico to give up it's northern territory, which today is the southern part of the USA from CA to TX. The entire southern USA is steeped in Mexican history! With or without illegals, the Latino influence has been in place since the very beginning, and continues to grow today. IMO...the ONLY thing that can explain why some people worry about 6.8% of the entire population, or worry about higher populations of Latinos, is xenophobia...
Do you have links that verify your assertions? If so please share them with us. When I moved to California the Mexican population was about ten percent. How did the Mexican population get to be thirty eight percent as you suggest? This is California now: http://www.nationalreview.com/articles/255320/two-californias-victor-davis-hanson Why do you think California is broke? A Latina I talk to periodically is an example of the problem. She doesn't work. She stays at home. So does her Latino significant other. She has three kids by different men. Her rent is $2,000 per month for her house. She pays less than $200/month and the rest is paid by the housing authority with federal Section 8 money. This is my reality. Rich men can buy their way out of this and live in gated communities.
