Why do Americans think they are better than the rest of the World?

Generally speaking of course. You hear a lot about how we need to close "our" borders and keep "them" out. Why? I don't know If you've noticed, but a good 30% of the people that live in this country are utterly worthless human beings with no skills, education, or much of a desire for either. Unsurprisingly, most of these people vote for the Republican Party, which in turn allows local Republicans to defund Education so there will be more Republicans.

Anyway, I think the answer to my question is simple. Americans are basically indoctrinated into believe America is the best country on Earth from the time they step foot into a classroom. They are (or were when I was going to school) forced to recite the Pledge, and in what I think is the most disgusting thing ever, are taught to believe Columbus "found" this country. The Millions of people already here don't count I guess. In reality this country is no better than any other country, and the people are no better than people anywhere else. This country is basically a big plantation with corporate overseers, and we are all slaves. Why people even come here only to live in a dump like New Orleans or LA is beyond me.

Try living somewhere outside of America and see if you still feel that way. The indoctrination is thick but not in the way that you think it is. Our culture today teaches us exactly what you've regurgitated here. To believe that America is somehow terminally flawed and no better than anywhere else. Which is about as (*)(*)(*)(*)ing stupid as humanly possible. This country has done more positive things in its short existence than any other country in the history of the world. If you expect it to be perfect, then you should expect to be let down. Because nowhere has ever been perfect nor will it ever be. But there is no argument you can make against the U.S. that you can't make (typically to a much worse degree) against every other powerful nation before us.

Cynicism is trendy. And it builds nothing.

They are because the garden of Eden was in America. In Texas I think? Adam and Eve were Americans and you can tell by the pictures of them. Like as if they were Africans!

Look at world history then come back to us. No ones hands are clean. Certainly we've done wrong, that is undeniable and it continues to happen. The fact that some wanted to try the surviving Boston bomber, a US citizen, as a war criminal shows just how bad it has gotten, that along with our drone policy, torture, well the list goes on. That said what you're talking about is immigration, and hardly a point to stand on, especially when you look at other nations policy. Do you really think the rest of the world is some revolving door when it comes to citizenship?

The thing is, you will get the same jingoism just about everywhere. Australia is also the greatest country in the world. The freest nation, the best fighting force ever assembled in the history of the known universe. The British say the same about their home, and I am sure if we trolled the internet we could find evidence of dozens of other nations, also with rich histories and proud traditions of being the greatest.

And thats 100% fine. Its all garbage though. When humanity has no more borders, that country will be the greatest one ever.

It's not going to happen though. Even the first world nations can not get along and they pass laws needlessly against their own people, let alone attack other nations. The only thing that may unify humanity is an external threat, and even then it has to be real enough that we give up the in fighting to attack it, and once it's gone we'll be right back at each other. It's part of the human condition sadly enough. The only thing I could see keeping us from that is basically Star Trek where we can produce whatever anyone needs/wants without issue. Until then people will continue to fight, steal, rape and kill from a personal to a national level.

Because they are poor, religous psychos, or savages.

The poor are usually democrats. Do you have a source?

Conservatives want to defund the Department of education because its a bureaucracy.

WWI and WWII both occurred in Europe, Japan also took part in Both. If this place sucks so bad why are so many people so damned anxious to move here?

Because it's traditionally been very easy to take dollars from gullible, credulous, poorly educated Americans. Getting less easy since you're broke now, having given so many of your dollars away.

I disagree, I've lived in many countries (including Australia) and the similarity between Auss and the US is clear, lots of flag waving and people who are brought up not to question the "fact" that their country is the best. I've seen this in no other country that I've lived.
Absolutely not. I've never heard this is Britain. Sure some people might think it, but they do not say it. Aussies and Americna's typically do however.

This was one of the contributing factors to me leaving Aus, which was a shame - nice place!

"Europe"? Yeah, start attending your geography and history classes.

Brits are notorious about their brit pride. Union jacks and nonsense everywhere. A silly waning country. Not much left to be proud of. Once great but no longer.

Do not confuse "national pride" with "thinking your country is better thaan the rest of the world" - WHICH IS WHAT THIS THREAD IS ABOUT!!

Seriously, can you actually read stuff and comprehend the meaning? At times it seems not at all.

To someone who doesn't understand "words" and stuff perhaps. But I'm of the opinion that when using "words", a person should have an understanding of their meaning. Of course, you're free to disagree, and clearly do in fact disagree.

That never ever becomes boring... one of the sad things about technology advances is that young boys will never have the pleasure of typing that into a calculator....

Europe is not a country and you can not compare a country to a continent.

Colonial states are the product of immigration , who immigrated? the poor, the uneducated , the religious fanatics , lunatics , whores and in general Europe's, Asia's and Africa's trash , it is logical the descendants of those trash to wanna think themselves as important .
This is not only the case of the US , i have some family members in Australia and they are by far the ugliest ones and probably the ones with the least manners , yes they made money and everything because they live in the land of opportunity but every time we meet with my cousins i feel like i spend time with rednecks.
