IRS offers extra tax refunds to illegal immigrants granted amnesty by Obama

This is going to cost America billions in refunds owed to those who have been here and working illegally. They will be able to file and claim the EIC (earned income tax credit) and get back money that was never paid in, up to $3,000 PER YEAR filed. IRS Commissioner John Koskinen confirmed Tuesday that illegal immigrants granted amnesty from deportation under President Obama’s new policies would be able to get extra refunds from the IRS for money they earned while working illegally, as long as they filed returns during those years.

Illegal immigrants who are granted the amnesty will be given official Social Security numbers, which means they can go back and amend up to three years of previous tax forms to claim the Earned Income Tax Credit, potentially claiming billions of dollars in additional payments they were ineligible for before the amnesty.

Mr. Koskinen said they will have to have already filed returns for those back-years, and there’s a statute of limitations that governs how far they can go back, but said the agency’s current interpretation of laws would allow them to claim the EITC credit retroactively.

If the money is theirs, and they are legally allowed to get it, then they darn well should.

 

How are they "owed" it? You do realize they are here illegally? Do you also realize the EIC will give them money back that was not paid in? They aren't going to file if they actually have to pay the IRS. So again, how are they owed anything from the IRS if they did not pay in?

 

Except they were not legally eligible to work during that time frame, so they weren't "owed" any income tax refunds.

Just another example of the Obama Administration changing laws they don't agree with.

Since this requirement was in effect for all of 2012, 2013, and 2014 (the years affected by this new change), they were not eligible to collect, per the above information.

 

Do you even understand how the earned income tax credit works? A family may have paid in only $350 in federal taxes and yet get back thousands of dollars in the form of a "refund" from the IRS. It's just another form of welfare disguised in a tax return. It's a negative tax. So if someone was here working illegally in this country, how is it right that they also can collect tax money from tax paying citizens, money that the illegal never paid in.

Because they won't be "paying" taxes. They will be filing returns, and because of their income (remember most of them are working crap jobs) their earnings will be low enough to qualify for the EIC. So they will become an even bigger financial drain.

Remember this the next time some one tells you that if we legalize them they'll be paying taxes.

Not at all. They were not eligible for EITC during 2012, 2013, and 2014, per the above information, and the law that is on the books. I'm not aware of Congress passing an amendment to this law, so this is just another example of Obama unilaterally changing laws he doesn't like (all to the thunderous applause of his followers, of course).

I have a solution, since progressives are so obsessed with building high speed rail - why don't they just build one that goes directly to Tijuana, load it up with illegals and drop them off where they belong.
