All of the people listed--most of them from the twentieth century--are very worthy contenders for this (rather dubious) honor. And so is Mao Zedong.

All in all, it is too close to call, in my opinion. At some point, a mass murderer is so utterly heinous that a slight increase in the body count cannot make him any more odious than another mass murder.

 

How self-centered. You choose someone that hurt you emotionally over genocidal maniacs.

I am not a self-centered person at all.
Most would describe me as unusually kind, generous, and even selfless.

Naming her (at the outset of this thread) was an immediate, gut response on my part.
I knew HER personally.
And she was the most evil person I had ever known.

Hitler and Stalin, on the other hand, I never had the misfortune to meet.
Pol Pot either.
Hitler and Stalin died long before I was born.
Pol Pot operated in a world far removed from the knowledge of most westerners.
Any opinion I could offer on those men would have been pure conjecture, based upon things I had read in books, or seen in the movies.

And just for the record, the girl in question never hurt me personally, though the potential for harm was great.
The evil was in the hurt I observed that she caused others over the next several years years after I broke off the affair.

When I saw how casually she used people, batted her pretty eyes at them, rooked them out of money, cost them promotions, screwed them over, and cost some of them their jobs, it chilled me to the core.

To think that I had come very close to throwing away my life, my marriage, my relationship with my daughter…
And all for this illusion of who I thought I believed I had fallen in love with.

Anyway, I ramble.
I just wanted you to know that you mischaracterized me, and my misread my motivations for naming her earlier.

I would hope it is someone nobody has ever heard of nor ever will, so they cannot be emulated by some loser for their misdeeds...

In terms of body count it would be Mao, as a % of the population it would be Pol Pot, in terms of inhumanity to fellow man it's a tie between Hitler and Stalin, but evil is subjective I would that genocide is in a special class of evil but in terms of just lack of any semblance of humanity or what one could call a soul I would say it's probably serial killers who torture and do other things to their victims, Mao, Pol Pot, Hitler, Stalin etc. believe they were justified in their actions as twisted and evil as that is but these sick bastards do it because they legitimately enjoy it.

In a nutshell I have came to strongly suspect that Azazel is the fallen angel who will be somewhat like General Abner who brought the ten tribes over to King David or to Rav Shaul/Paul who repented of persecuting Christians and followers of God.

I suspect that when the fallen angel Azazel returns to the God of Abraham with his whole heart...when Yom Kippur is completely fulfilled....then a major step will have been taken toward the ushering in of a truly new era of worldwide peace where even the eating habits of wild animals like lions will be altered!

I believe that pure evil exists, but I've found that it has become harder and harder to see it in the commonly named sources. Kill count isn't the measure of wickedness, so I think this stacking up between Hitler, Pol Pot, Stalin, etc. is kind of pointless. Truly good men are responsible for the deaths of millions, too. But then I don't think that depravity and wicked acts alone are what we should judge evil by. Vlad the Impaler is pretty well known for his cruel and wicked acts, but understood in the time and context it can be easily understood as the necessary act to inflict fear into a far superior enemy.

So my example I don't think is clear and definitive, it's just the worse that I can think of off the top of my head. To be clear - I don't think any of the guys mentioned actually are more evil than this guy because, like I said, kill count isn't the measure of evil.

 

Would an impressive case for eventual universal salvation perhaps begin to get you thinking that the Creator might not be so awful after all?

Other. Must be one of the masterminds of a regime. Because masterminds and their masters were the cause behind every war or empire or genocide. It's hard to find out who was the most evil person ever. It was never a single person that came up with evil ideas, but their is always the most evil mind part of such evil group. Because only a very well organized group of persons in top of a system can take over a society, never a single person. The worsed ideas combined and conspired always did the take over and another historical era.

 

I would say recently Pol Pot, he either killed or caused the death of 3 million of his fellow countrymen. At the time there were only 7 million Cambodians. That is killing 40% of all Cambodians. Others have killed more, but as a percentage, Pol Pot probably holds the record. I was just thankful the North Vietnamese put a stop to it.
