While President Trump today praised his administration for “doing a really good job” providing disaster relief for Puerto Rico, a view from ground level tells a radically different and very disturbing story.

Geraldo Rivera, reporting for Fox News from the San Juan Airport, where people are waiting in lines for six hours or more to get out, was candid in his assessment of the situation on the island where more than half of the 3.2 million residents are still without power and many more without water or food.

“It is mind-boggling how slow the relief effort has been,” an agitated Rivera told Shep Smith, who was in Fox’s New York studio. “There has been one relief flight all day yesterday.”

“It doesn’t seem the pedal has been put to the medal if you get my meaning,” added Rivera. “This is a catastrophe.”

This story is a very personal one for the veteran reporter and show host. His mother is a Jewish New Yorker and his father was a Catholic from Puerto Rico who moved to in New York. Rivera told Smith he is getting calls from his family in the Bronx about his relatives in Puerto Rico but the communications system is so destroyed that he is not yet able to reach them all to make sure they are all right.

Yeah we should just load up a bunch trucks and send them down asap. oh wait the highway ends at the bottom of the keys. Look dude one of the problems with living on an island that's just had its infrastructure almost literally blown away is that is that before people can resupply you some of that infrastructure needs to be repaired and that like it or mot takes time

Relief, if sincere, could have been quite quick.
Not fixing the infrastructure per se, but a small Naval/CG 'invasion' would have done wonders.
a Single Helicopter carrier could have ferried in 50x what we have, and evac-ed thousands.
Not to mention a hospital ship.

Trump only feigned getting into action a week later, after being criticized for talking about the NFL while doing nothing for PR/USVI.

we have damn few helicarriers available these and most of the ones we do have are with the Pacific fleet not to mention which the primary helis are the latest cobra variants not Hueys. Heli carriers are being replace by new amphibious warfare ships.

I'm not interested in your militaria details, and that's Not the point.
This was about ANY serious response from the Navy/CG/anyone.
    And there was None.

    ie.

Clinton pressed Trump to deploy hospital ship Comfort to Puerto Rico. Now it’s Preparing to go.
    By Dan Lamothe September 26

As the devastation from Hurricane Maria became more apparent Sunday, former Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton implored President Trump and Defense Secretary Jim Mattis to help the people of Puerto Rico. Send the Navy, she tweeted, especially the hospital ship USNS Comfort.

Two days later, Federal Emergency Management Agency Director Brock Long announced that the Navy will soon do exactly that. The decision, disclosed in front of the White House on Tuesday afternoon, was later confirmed by the Navy. It comes After days of critics saying that the U.S. government isn’t doing enough to support hurricane relief in Puerto Rico, a U.S. territory of nearly 3.5 million people that faces months without electricity and a long rebuilding process.

Navy Cmdr. Mike Kafka, a service spokesman, said that the ship will leave within the next four days, and it will take up to five additional days to reach Puerto Rico. He called the move a “prudent decision in light of current conditions on ground.” .....

    Pretty pathetic.

This storm might end up being one of the best things to happen to Puerto Rico. The island was in miserable economic shape prior to it being hit by this storm, and it will now be getting a good deal of attention. Of course nothing the Trump administration does will ever be good enough, that's just a given.

Good to see you finally admit it.
He was probably looking at how he could exploit a marketing angle for his company and sell something to the victims before aid could start coming.

If Trump does anything, he's looking at suddenly very cheap real estate in Puerto Rico. Meanwhile people live all over that island. Where is the food to be unloaded, San Juan harbor at one end and Mayaguez at the other?

He has a net worth of 15 mill, I'm sure half of that and selling his boat would feed a crap load, but then again, just how personal is it to ol Geraldo :)

Trump licensed a Golf course there which the developers defaulted. The failure left Puerto Rican taxpayers with a nearly $33 million bill.

That's the reason Trump went along with the Democrats on the budget this last time, NOT because he wanted to help the victims of Harvey in Houston but because he wants to victimize them even more. The Democrat plan was only for 90 days, the plan which Trump's own Republicans wanted was for 18 months. 90 days will be just enough time for most FEMA insurance holders to get their claims together, and then Trump will shut down the government "for reasons of principal" and they will be holding the bag. Cue Ouday and Qusay to step in and acquire millions of dollars worth of people's savings and dreams for next to nothing.

I know, conspiracy theory tinfoil hat stuff. Fine. Come back here in 90 days, see what the Traitor-in-Chief is doing then.

I can't wait to see what Trump and the cons will do then, these are American CITIZENS every one. I wonder what gymnastics we will see them try to justify our keeping these refugees out
