We’ve tried nationalism on for size, why not socialism?

Yes it is. Unless you are going to tell me Trump won the Presidency by the blessing of the secret space Pope or some such nonsense, instead of by winning the electoral college.

"The country is running by the rules and laws set out by the Constitution, how could anyone assume therefor that we are a Constitutional Republic?!?!"

The level of basic philosophical understanding has really fallen in this place.

While the electoral process places priority of voters well behind individual, party and largesse to special interest and is in a death grip between two parties who do not have the American citizens at heart, Trump's election had little to do withy comment.

Law upon law is passed that would never pass Constitutional muster 200 years ago. Congress, the President and even the SCOTUS far exceeds this original intended reach in scope and power.

The electoral process follows exactly what is set up in the US Constitution. What you feel about the two party system or anything else doesn't change that. Facts don't care about your feelings.

Because the US Constitution has been amend multiples times from what it was 200 years ago? 200 years ago a white man could buy a slave, and he can't do that now. Why? Legally speaking, because the US Constitution was changed.

    Who pays for socialism?

Norway or Denmark are not good examples. The reason why not is the two countries would make it into our top 10 cities in population, but not perform as states.

Oh good god. I mean GOOD GOD. FDR along with his socialists took over. We still to this day suffer his laws. And Democrats are relentless in making up new laws. And who are they wanting to obey them?

    Republicans.

Democrats so despise republicans they first claim we are the party of the rich though they do very well when it comes to owning vast wealth, and they create laws that are designed to harm us.

Look, apparently you do not collect social security nor use medicare.

Let me give you the truth.

I once was a super loyal Democrat. I am collecting my monthly payment from SS and using Medicare. I also use the state medicaid program. I have by a huge margin collected back every social security dollar i ever paid. I am in the green by a huge margin. And I did not come close to paying in enough to come close to paying for the medicare surgery it paid for.

I should be most eternally grateful. But others paid my bills. And others paid me the SS money.

Were the rich to get such bonus returns on their money, they would be awash in trillionaires.

So why do you approve taking people's money from them to donate to me?

Why do you believe my surgery was so darned expensive? Why was the hospital bill so enormous?

The truth is Democrats policies and laws created those armageddon costs. Your own laws is why it costs so much.

The socialism in this country is a product of FDR starting in sincerely plus following Congress bodies run by Democrats. When we speak, we say remove those laws. What do Democrats tell us? Pile on more laws. Not soften them or remove them, pile on those laws. And they claim those laws are needed. Why did this nation function so well prior to those so called needed laws?

No semantics, a very real difference.

In a society of the rich the kid with only one Ferrari is poor under relative poverty. Being in a certain percentile of income does not make you in poverty. Lacking essentials makes you in poverty.

:disbelief: This is going to be my very last attempt at trying to make you see logical reason. You cite that the President could be impeached if he's seen as committing high crimes and misdemeanors according to the US Constitution. Now, who interprets that? Congress. And in today's Congress, high crimes and misdemeanors amount to things that of recent have been thrown out of federal court!

These political actors aren't acting to some constitutional premise. They are operating within the system, they do not respect the system. That's like an atheist going to a church, reciting sermon but he of course is an atheist, he doesn't believe in the "word".

So yes, everything is operating in the way that it should, but not with the intention that should underlie such behavior.

"Everything Hitler did was legal", but that didn't mean Hitler had legal intent.

My God, such sophistry isn't often seen outside of a Marxist college dorm room. Are you sure you aren't a leftist? Well you are a nationalist, so your love of the state is obvious. I guess I shouldn't be that surprised.

Of course the question of "high crimes and misdemeanors" has always been a political question, have you never read the Federalist Papers? It was a check upon the Executive based on the political climate of a given time period. Which is why both of the two times it's been used in our history has been more about a political argument, especially with Andrew Johnson.

Again your emojis and 19th century style flowery language must seem impressive to you, but you're still not getting the point that your simple disagreements with policy issues, doesn't somehow out way the fact that A is A, and that we are still a Constitutional Republic. The Constitution rules here.

Honestly if you are the best this site has now, then it's value has steadily declined in the last 15 year. The fact that you can't grasp a simple fact, is rather pathetic.

Well I'm glad you're calling it sophistry. If it's so sophiscated, my suggestion would be to embrace the truth. Yes, our government is functioning according to the law as prescribed by the constitution. That doesn't mean however, that the actors are acting faithful to the doctrine. Instead, it means our government is a plutocracy, operating as such within the legal realms of the Republic.

It actually shows how weak our Republic is, that its system has no remedies for 'legally' gaming it.

Once again the FACTS expose that alt right FALLACY!

    https://toomuchonline.org/the-self-made-myth-our-hallucinating-rich/

Your beloved BLOTUS was "born on third base" and 60% of the wealthy INHERITED their wealth.

So your bogus allegation has no factual basis whatsoever.

I uphold your right to your utterly fallacious opinions but your grasp of the facts leaves a great deal to be desired.

Like most people you are completely unaware of the FACT that the value of the money that you paid into SS during your lifetime would be worth considerably MORE in TODAY'S money. The odds are you are NOT "in the green" when it comes to NPV.

    https://www.forbes.com/sites/adviso...f-your-social-security-benefits/#38a775bd20e3

    .
Secondly the whole concept of Social Security is NOT to give ANYONE "bonus returns on their money". The wealthy get back exactly the same amount that you do because what they PAID IN was CAPPED so it was NOT on their ENTIRE income. Since they have NOT paid in more they don't deserve to get out more.

The cost of healthcare is from CAPITALIST GREED that you you support 100% by approving of the GOP's iniquitous policies.

So, as usual, you are 100% WRONG about everything in your post.

I hope that you didn't hurt yourself stretching that hard?

Utilities that burn FOSSIL FUELS are the actual polluters not the CONSUMERS of that energy otherwise you might as well allege that ALL AMERICANS are the biggest polluters. Utilities that switch to renewables are reducing their pollution with the held of the government. So it is DISINGENUOUS to blame the government for INHERITING the problem CREATED by the fossil fuel industry.

As far as the military goes those who keep on INCREASING MILITARY SPENDING are responsible for that happening. If the military were downsized the problem would also be downsized. So who keeps pushing for MORE military spending? The answer is in your mirror.

I noticed that in addition to gutting the EPA and Education Trump is asking for more money for the military.

Denmark stands at about 45% but there are worse cases. The U.S. is not so far behind either, but for an honest look we have to look at our total tax burden and data on that is hard to find. To this, which shows the US at about 32%, I have to add 9% state taxes, my 5% property taxes, and miscellaneous taxes and fees like telephone access tax and fees. That brings my burden to about 48%. Denmark isn't so bad now, is it?
