Mitch McConnell is betting heavily that his campaign to construe anything promoting the general welfare as socialism contrary to American values has won over the majority of American voters.

He says that tax cuts are irrelevant to deficits, that budget shortfalls can be blamed EXCLUSIVELY on entitlements: namely Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. He also says that if Republicans gain enough seats in Congress, they can finish off Obamacare for good. . . . Can ANY conservatives see the handwriting on the wall???

By law, they are not entitlements. They can be ended at anytime. Of course, the only way that will happen is if we go bankrupt, which by normal yardsticks we are, but the government gets away with Enron accounting.

Of course you are, but the Republican hierarchy has made it clear that the hoi polloi are not worthy of such "entitlements". . . . Since the corporate sector and the ultra-wealthy contribute most to the economy, THEY should be exclusively entitled to subsidies in the form of tax breaks and lucrative government contracts, which presumably would "trickle down".

Since the 1% control the media, they apparently anticipate the propaganda would lean in their favor.

What’s your point they are entitlements, and they are the largest drivers of our national debt...and moreover are unsubstainable unless reform is done

Each paycheck I pay into "Social Security", but not a single dime of that makes me secure. The Dems are still letting illegals come into the country. If I don't need to pay it and instead get a tax reduction, I can buy guns, knives, and bombs to make myself secure.

The only people who need social security are useless people. Under Trump, America would be so great that we don't need social security. After we get rid of the useless people.

Has anyone told you that Trump and the Republicans are in control of the federal govt and are responsible for the illegals?

Republicans have had their crosshairs on Medicare, Social Security and Medicaid. They will not accept anything that benefits the poor and middle class, and not millionaires. But tomorrow or the day after you'll probably see him defending how he "loves" these social programs. What he really believes just has slips out once in a while. But if Republicans will get rid of them first opportunity they get. Problem is that the people who will be most harmed is their core base. But they are unaware of anything going on. They're too busy worrying about how many immigrants come in and produce more .for this country then they ever did.

. . . And massive tax cuts on the corporate sector are irrelevant to that sustainability???

Should profit maximization in the corporate sector be subsidized by further sacrifices demanded of the original source of its wealth???

Republicans don't hate Medicare. Paul Ryan grew up on it. But as a country we have outgrew it. Time to let it go.

They are as Mitch the bitch puts it entitlements we paid for throughout our working lives!!I still continue to pay into Medicare every month of retirement as do all those collecting Social Security.Cutting Social Security which is ALREADY INADEQUATE will leave over 40% of American retirees impoverished. If anything it needs to be increased NOT DECREASED!!!As far as Medicare and Medicaid go it is the same old Returdlicker tactics ENRICH THE WEALTHY at the expense of the middle class and poor.

Seems like a VERY foolish statement for him to make this before midterms. . . . Does he really believe that the majority of voters will consider that gutting these programs will be in their best interests, or does McConnell consider Trump followers to be kamikaze pilots???

Oh gosh, so much to do, so little time. Think of all the useless people; we'll need to invent some form of efficient murder to kill off the dead weight. But let's get on with it....
    Democrats
    professors
    teachers
    books and authors
    reporters and newspapers
    minorities
    musicians
    artists
    the aged
    the infirm
and the list goes on. Thanks for your inspired response. I'll bet you're just getting back from a Trump rally.

Whole adult life... every election... every single one. Democrats trot out lies about Republicans cutting SS. Since the early 80s... every single election. Sometimes accompanied by "seniors eating cat food" lie narratives to boot. I'm sure that goes on too, just haven't seen it -this- time.

Used to work in scaring people too... until the net. Now people see through the BS. Awwwwww.

Maybe find some new schtick? Will they EVER learn and update their stale lie narratives? Guess not, they are Paulie Walnuts in the crime family, dumb thugs, not the sharpest knives in the drawer. Maybe public unions need to hire other than dumbass gender/race studies majors for their PR departments?

. . . . Except that this time it is Mitch McConnell's narrative, not the Democrats'. This is straight from the horse's mouth. Read the links.

I've read the actual quote, and it doesn't state or imply cuts to SS and Medicare. Nor is McConnell King of the United States. It's just this election's excuse to work the tired old Democrat "cuts to SS" lie narrative into the mix, nothing more, nothing less. McConnell's statements about entitlements and the deficit are completely noncontroversial and factual, are then distorted by the Complex in attempts to give the appearance he said something that he did not say.

Oversimplifying necessary reform of SS or any other statute from time to time as "cuts" for the express purpose of fear-mongering near elections is transparent. For example, few would disagree that in a population that remains healthy and able to perform modern, less dangerous, less physically taxing work farther into senior years, raising the retirement age from time to time is reasonable. That is a "cut" only to a dullard or an intentional propagandist.

Such propaganda and fear mongering prevents needed change. For another example, many older Americans who remain working in retirement would gladly trade a reduction in benefits for more favorable tax treatment of income earned in retirement. That is not honestly described as a "cut" either.

Turning to Medicare, we have a very mixed (half government, half private sector) medical services industry that has adapted over time to soak the government as much as possible to all taxpayers' detriment. One has to only look at all the tactics used in medical offices to fit services towards maximizing Medicare receipts to see this. The system is in desperate need of reform, and fear-mongering prevents this.

As a matter of fact, fear-mongering on SS/Medicare endangers benefits for future generations of Americans more than any prospective changes or even "cuts" ever could.

Yes, because neither are paid for with Corp taxes, but by payroll taxes on the individuals.

Make no mistake.McConnell was clear. If Republicans hold Congress Social Security...Healthcare...Medicare...Medicaid...are all on the chopping block ...and he's using the excuse of the "debt crisis" HE created with the tax cuts and spending bills
