By their TV news shows, Americans have been conditioned over decades to be fearful. This is not the land of the free and home of the brave, this is the land of the brainwashed embracing their inner cowards. Such behavior is encouraged.

Guns have little to do with it.

Well, as a matter of fact, it is liberty.

I have no issue with anyone who feels the need to carry a gun on them when they go out in public. To each his/her own. But ultimately yes, these people do live in fear.

Nobody who has lived all their life in a country without a "gun culture" lives in fear of having to defend themselves with a gun.

The idea that granny can outshoot a professional thug is ludicrous. The only way a gun would save granny is if the thug doesn't have a gun. But the only thugs that don't carry guns are the ones in countries without our insane "gun culture"

The fear that drives people to have guns is the fear of other people with guns. This is how our insane gun culture works. But you're not going to convince those who have never seen anything better that an alternative exists.

Only if by "liberty" you are referring to "the liberty to kill others".

Possessing a gun means living free of fear.

Of course it is. One purchases a gun for the same exact reason one buys home owners insurance in case the unthinkable happens.

    Re:
You're smugly wondering why no Americans are responding to your thread when it was about 5AM, Saturday morning on the East coast.

I only rarely carry a firearm now that I live in a rural area & I do so, now, out of the "fear" that I may hit a deer with my car, wound it & need to put it out of its misery. It's a pretty common problem in the area

I used to carry a firearm more frequently when I lived in a rough, inner-city neighborhood which was the only location in which I could afford to buy an older home.

I can think of 3 times when my being armed saved me & my neighbors from thugs whose intent was not to make me or my neighbors any healthier, wealthier or happier so, no, I did not live in fear.
I had the freedom to take a walk after dinner, go to the neighborhood restaurant, visit friends when I would not have done so without the right to carry a firearm

Even though I enjoy target practice, I regard my defensive firearms in pretty much the same manner as I regard my fire extinguishers, smoke detectors & spare tire in my car: I can more easily relax knowing that I have these "tools" than if I didn't.

So, yes, the right to carry a firearm has not only probably saved my life, it gave me the "Liberty/Freedom" to live my life free of fear.

    Yes it is.

Ask HER why she has it. Any answer other than to commit a crime is appropriate and logical.

And pretty lame and stupid of the service man.

Because we are smarter than you and do not FEEL our way through life. We think instead and it is more intelligent to be armed than not to be.

Add family to that statement. It's always been this way from the beginning of time. A gun is just the modern tool as it used to be swords, clubs and rocks.

So 'ludicrous' I simply google "elderly homeowner shoots burglar'', just a sample from the first page. Your assertion that all criminals are armed with guns, is the only thing ludicrous. If democrats had their way, these people would have been victims, instead of being able to protect their selves. That's evil and despicable.

Who elected you spokesman for your entire country? They may have passed the laws but that does not mean everyone agrees with them, otherwise no law would be needed.

Urban Queensland, City having a population of about 300,000.

Dunno what you are driving at.

Nah. Dwelling in a suburban street just like most people.

    Already answered.

I have no idea. Never checked.

    I have no idea.

Virtually no-one has a firearm in Australia. If I had to self defend, it would be either with my own body or whatever is around the place at the time. Improvisation.

No it won't. Having a firearm is generally illegal in Australia.

    I have no idea.

    Nah.

    Nope.

    Have no idea, never checked.

    As above. Nah.

    Over to you Blue Leader.

This is the question I've always had--who is it that we are so afraid of that we feel the need to arm ourselves when we go out? I have a few guns. I like shooting but don't do it much anymore. But I've never felt that kind of fear that makes people carry a gun. I simply can't understand it (and yes, I've had to defend myself from someone who pulled a gun on me).
