Not sure who you are responding to, but anyone claiming John's Hopkins knows less than an average forum poster isn't worth talking to.

Well for most of them, they are paid, and what they are paid to do is repeat from a talking points memo given to them from a Soros/Brock/public union/foreign government entity, which is not remotely similar to any form of adult "communication."

Overall, we are not at 1.32 million COVID-19 cases worldwide.

Things are looking definitely better in both Italy and Spain. Where they both were hitting 5,000-6,000 new cases per day, they are both under +4,000 right now. The deaths are still high, but not in the 800-900 zone.

France, however, is suffering badly. Today alone, +833 deaths. Plus, France is about to join the 100,000 club, where the USA, Spain, France and Germany already are.

Pakistan, with 3,662 cases, detected over 505 of them today, a +16% growth rate in one day.
Similarly, Russia, now with 6,343 cases, detected (or reported) 954 of them today, a 17.7% growth rate - mega-exponential.
India, which was under 50 cases 3 weeks ago, is now just under 4,700 cases, and India is barely testing. It's really a scandal in India.

Switzerland has broken over 21,000 cases today.

439 people have already died in the UK today, that total will likely be considerably higher by the end of the day.

754 people have died in the USA, and there are 4.5 hours left in my day.... the USA has now crossed over the 10,000 line in terms of total COVID-19 deaths.

In Germany, 28 people have died thus far today. They update their totals pretty much every half-hour, just as in the USA.

Iraq and Slovenia have both crossed over the 1,000 line, that now makes for 61 nations at 1,000 COVID-19 cases (or considerably more)

There is much going on under the surface of the big overall COVID-19 numbers today, details I think are worth noticing.

This distinction makes zero ****ing sense. We have decades worth of confirmed case data regarding influenza

Are you seriously trying to troll now? I said you had zero justification for your opinion that the covid virus is not at least 10x lethal. I did not set any rules for how you provide justification.

You wanted my justification? I gave it to you.

My husband thinks it's a psychological issue. It's human nature to go into denial when the facts are too overwhelming. It's the first stage of grief. When it comes to something like this, I think data nerds have a much easier time understanding the data and how projections work. It does seem the H1N1 tirade is going away, as we are only 2-4 days away from having the same 365 day death total from H1N1. That's only 40-ish days from the first US death. We got there in 1/10th time time. They have no retort on that one anymore. It's mind blowing.

This report follows on an earlier post by me regarding comments by Iran's health ministry spokesman on the statistics regarding the virus from China, calling them a 'joke'. I personally think those comments, besides being diplomatically incorrect when Iran needs any diplomatic support it can find from anywhere including China, were also not well thought out. There could very well be valid explanations for all the things people might rightly question about some of the statistics from China and jumping the gun on the issue by taking a dismissive attitude about those stats is no more appropriate when it comes to figures from China than it is appropriate for the reports and figures from Iran that this official himself announces daily. Figures that I personally find, by and large, presented in good faith and any discrepancy between them and other legitimate estimates mainly due to well founded disputes on how to classify deaths of otherwise terminally ill patients. As for the overall number of cases Iran reports, that number is most certainly something that only shows the tip of the iceberg since Iran, like almost all other countries, doesn't test everyone but mainly those who show symptoms of suffering from Covid-19.

I think that the UK updates their number of death daily at 1pm BST so the 439 deaths is the 24 hour number of deaths

ANY thread composed by this particular OP is a thread devoted to partisan conspiracy theories as HUNDREDS of datapoints over the years attest, so I'll stay right where I am, thanks.

Yes, but sometimes they revise the number in the evening. I have noticed it now on 6 separate occasions.

Tracking this is not always easy due to so many time zones involved.

At no point in this thread is a conspiracy theory about taking talking points from George Soros or any other right wing boogeyman welcome. Please do not further promote such idiocy.

    No. Are you?

    Correct. You did say that.

... if true, then how can you claim that I have zero justification for my opinion? Rather, my point is that you haven't set any rules beyond "the claim is true simply because it was stated". I applied that rule across the board.

Nope. According to your rules, none of that matters, as I can just state that you have zero justification for your opinion and leave it at that.

If you have any justification, beyond your opinion, that covid-19 is less than ~10x lethal when compared to the seasonal influenza, then you should provide it instead of accusing people who can cite the experts and raw data of fear mongering.

The thing is, the naysayers are all self-claimed republicans. A republican who doesn't know what compound interest is, is not a very good republican.

An argument does not become "justified" because an "expert" makes it. Some of us are free thinkers, you know... Some of us do not accept an argument as true simply because an "expert" makes it.

As you yourself have said, you haven't even provided any rules for justifying opinions, so how do you expect me to "justify my opinion to you" when you don't even have any criteria for doing so?

Spiegel online is tracking doubling in days. Its nice to see the number of days creep up slowly in several hard hit European countries.
