This is even more interesting. Can we take one step further, and say, that every country in today's economy competes by currency devaluation, which is what makes foreign labor cheaper? The USA (and to some extent the EU) can't do this though, because we are the world's "consumers" and so it is our $$$ that they profit from. I think we Americans will be able to start bringing jobs back, after the lives of working Americans are so broken, that it is apparent worldwide that we cannot be consumers any more.

Very interesting. Yes there are a lot of countries who mostly buy from within. And of course nobody can do that 100 %. But yes we have become a total consumer and almost no value as a Vendor. Nice job Wall St, Washington, and greedy business owners. Way to have good foresight and business sense. Our kids want to thank you.

Yeah. My sister's 10 year old son wants to learn Chinese and he imagines that he will move from America to China to finish school and get a job. Even the 10 year old knows better now ... . I am an American, and I will have to be VERY afraid to have children by the time I become old enough for that.

Hey are you smarter than a 5th grader lol. Most Wall Streeters aren't. But seriously, we have really messed up the USA with acting like we are superior and our s**t don't stink. Also in reference to your 10 yr old relative, it's mostly the older ( 45 and up) decision makers who are so stupid. Not the young ppl.

Yes, but a good professor should be able to smell it a mile away.

You can thank the government sticking their noses where they don't belong for that.

Now that I thought about it it was mostly business owners. So in actuality we need the government to step in and make sure these ppl don't take business out of the USA. Not totally but we have to make it work for us and not the rest of the world.

You need to sit back and ask why are businesses taking work outside our border? I think the answer to that is obvious.

"Diminished" is engaging in partisan bashing in the middle of a discussion about one of the most important things of all time!

That is part of it, but ask yourself why that situation came about.

In my experience one of the problems in public education is so many Christian fundamentalist idiots that pass for teachers. My 6th grade teacher, who always wore a cross and one of those older gruff types that probably missed the days when she could beat her students as she pleased, said that gravity was "like a string" holding the earth and moon together and that this is why the same side of the moon always faces the earth. As an astronomy fan at the age of 12 I raised my hand and told her she was wrong. She promptly punished me by assigning me and me alone an extra oral report to explain to the whole class why she was wrong.

    http://blogs.tennessean.com/opinion/2010/08/11/parents-are-reason-students-keep-failing/

Here is a reason why most kids struggle. It seems as though even middle class parents have been lazy in parenting. For all those out there it is up to parents to be highly involved and make sure kids are engaged in homework. There was a program on tv that even shared that families with two parents and a stable home are the ones who are letting their kids down. Not the disadvantaged parents who live in poor areas and are single parents. So it means our normal average white couple is failing the kids and our country. As we know the more educated a person is i tleads them to a better life and to be productive. If you lessen the chance to be productive then your hinder a life and that life impacts the country. This happens before kids go to college. It's not all the teachers fault.

This statistics are the worst for the stable-home-stable-income couples, because they carry the most time consuming, heaviest burden of all economic troubles. They are simply so punished that they have no time left to give enough to their children. (So their children will likely grow up to slide down below their current levels.)

That's exactly how it happens. Except I wouldn't call it punishment. These people choose to live this way.

I'm sick of these stupid threads. I can guarantee the people starting these threads are low lives and are blaming the system for their short comings.

Way to give ideas on how to help things get better. If you don't want to share then skip over it.

Things are great! They don't need to be changed. Everyone has ample opportunities. You can't force someone to learn something.

"These people choose to live this way." -- This sounds funny. I bet I am not alone when I choose to try to stay in the financial bracket that I lived in before starting "work". And I bet I am not alone when I don't blame myself (but the environment) that this takes more and more work to maintain. In case of parents, this is no different, I bet. How is this anything to do wth choices? You mean that they should choose to give up a roof above their heads and give up food shortly after?

This were other countries have us beat. Just like chossing a college to go to or who to date, there is no law that makes you go to a gollege because your parents went. Whatever financial bracket you were in before you were working was not YOUR bracket. It was your PARENTS bracket. You are not entitled to it. Nor is there any proof that just because someones parents were successful that you DESERVE what they had. It is up to each person to find their own way. And if you CHOSE to try and live up to a lifestyle maybe you don't necessairly deserve or is even right for you then you open yourself up to the big lending, and housing bubble mess, and taking tons of equity out. A roof doesn't have to be a mansion. A roof is a roof. A 2 bedrm apt, or a trailer is a roof. To be specific.

In other countries like Germany, the family unit is most important. They don't ever try to live too high. They work there 40- 50 hours and are home to spend time with their families. They do the family meal. They do the family vacations. They are involved with their kids studies. There is no trying to live 3-4 payscales above what they have to impress people. There is no working 100 plus hours to make extra money to get more stuff. Having a balanced life is what keeps the kids doing well in school and progressing through school and thei'r k-12 are way more advanced than ours.

So when you don't take blame for YOUR OWN decisions it is a cop out. But most American citizens, let's say the so called middle class 2 parent stable homes don't do this. So you are wrong in you above assessment. What you did show though is how greedy your tendency's are, and how you are at risk to passing that off to your kids. In todays climate, that won't work. I would love to hear what citizens from around the world feel about your post. After all this is a worldwide forum.

I absolutely love your German example. I am the only American who is able to understand it, because I travel internationally. (The others spend more hours in the office instead.) I am however a product of my society, like everyone else, so I may be having a longer sentence in the greed prison. I have this question though: now that the agressive American marketing, fuelled by our excessive greed, is taking over the world, step-by-step, how long will Germany or any other "normal" country keep their separate philosophies?
