So people keep on asking "why the US is the way it is?". The right keep on saying it's due to the "entitlement culture". Well it is, but not in the way you think. It's the entitlement culture which is from kids, who expect so much from their parents, that they don't develop a true sense of work ethic.

WARNING: This clip contains every swear word in the book.

BTW: I'm loving the fact that an atheist has seem through the BS.

Funny video. Saw this on failblog the other day:

I honestly don't know any of these spoiled brats and don't see it as a big problem in the US. One problem is that when people stray from God, they'll focus on worldly (material) things. From a biblical perspective, these kids (and possibly their parents) are worshiping idols. That never works out.

It's got nothing to do with god! FFS it's an atheist pointing this out. I'm a non-consumer atheist. God has nothing to do with this.

"SPOILED" freaking kids, living in a country with disproportional wealth is the problem.

I obviously disagree with youR statements about God, but I'm not sure what you're trying to say with that last sentence. Are you saying that if the US did not have "disproportional wealth," we wouldn't have "SPOILED" freaking kids?

This entitlement has existed for almost a century. Now youth simply has a place to be heard, the internet. It can act as an autobiography allowing them to detail their life. I'm sure if it had existed earlier and was as easy to use then we'd see kids also whined in the past too. If you have not seen it I would recommend- [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IyPzGUsYyKM"]The Century Of The Self-Full Length Documentary - YouTube[/ame]

How do you account for the atheist on the video, and myself? We did not need god to tell us this (*)(*)(*)(*).

That's what I'm saying. You're a victim of your own success. Paris Hilton would be nearly top of the tree in terms of these wankers.

Be a sheep for god or a sheep for the market, why not be neither?

Why does it matter that an atheist sees this? Even the most militant atheist can see the problem. I'm saying that when people worship idols or, to put it another way, are extremely materialistic, this is the result.

Yes, we are a victim of our own success. This has happened throughout the ages. The first democracies in Greece failed for reasons such as these. One big problem with America today is that we have a government that bails out failed industries and attempts to take over a large percentage of the economy when the free market does a better job. The free market will correct for things like greed and selfishness. Too much government tinkering caused the Great Depression and our most recent economic slump.

This is truer than most people will ever realize. The Ten Commandments weren't put in place to ruin our fun or control us. They were put there for our own benefit as a reminder- to protect us from our own stupidity. But since we have free will, we have the freedom to ignore them and reap the natural consequences of our actions.

You are not very wise, are you? Your bias against scripture blinds you to the universal message within it. One that applies to you just the same as everyone else whether you see it or not.

I don't accept nor praise things that were written thousands of years ago by a combination of:

-ancient governments who made up fairy tales in order to control it's populace,

-people who wanted to explain what they couldn't understand via natural mechanisms,

-people who saw "visions" while under the influence of psychoactive drugs (yes, people in those times did those things and they were available),

-people who heard stories and then exaggerated them through generations into being something totally warped and ridiculous,

    -etc.

And the fact that timeless observations of human nature such as the worship of false idols (materialism) leading to a narcissistic collapse of society will be completely lost on you because you cannot accept that they were explained in a religious text rather than from a secular source.

You have a lot of fear and arrogance in you. The arrogance serves to mask the fear.

    @#$%ing teenagers. :evileye:

Couple of months ago, the seventeen-year-old's girlfriend was sitting in my living room and I'm trying to be nice to her so I ask her how her parents are doing. She says she's not allowed in the house right now because she attacked her mom. I'm all flabbergasted and I'm like, "Why in the world did you attack your mom?" And she says, "She punished me by taking away my computer for a couple of days." And then I'm like, "Yeah, that's great ... get the @#$% out of my house." And she just kept trying to justify her ridiculous actions -- I almost had to physically throw her out of my house.

I find it odd that bizarre things like this are most often said by the same people who are logical enough to realize certain other things, such as that the private sector is more efficient with material resources than the public sector, that taxation leads to artificial scarcity and lowers productivity, etc. It's as though anyone can be logical one minute but then become deluded the next about something.

And yet you fervently support the mechanisms of exactly what you describe here. Capitalism (in its current form - and this is very important), supports consumerism, hell, via advertising it sells this "evil" to us. And yet you dislike it.

    I love hypocritical christians.

Great video. Some of this videos are very good, but others are absolutely useless, blathering wastes of time.

There's nothing wrong with the country. There is something wrong with greedy, selfish little tweens with entitlement complexes. Most of these kids will grow up and become liberals and beg the Government the same way they used to beg their parents.

The onion has yet another layer. In some cases, those who receive tax based assistance of some sort, might not actually need that assistance if they were not materialistic themselves. Some people who receive welfare spend money on needless things that they could not afford if it were not for welfare.

I don't pay much attention to people that talk about "what's wrong with YOUR country." I do listen to people that talk about "what's wrong with OUR country."

Well I'm from the usa, and I agree the op has a point. I think we need to look outside the box and see how other nations do things so we can have something to compare ourselves to. We've been living in a fish bowl for too long and we all see the result.

I dislike it, too. Well, perhaps I should clarify. I dislike the aspect that causes the spoiled brats. Over entitled (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*)s that feel naked not walking around with 3-5 Apple products on them. It's the OWSers. They think that because they aren't living the cushy, extravagant life some people in this country get to live that they should be able to receive free wealth from the government to allow that to happen to themselves. It's just a bunch of whiners asking for "gimme, gimme gimme". You may try to convince me that they are noble people with a noble cause but I will never believe you. It's the physical embodiement of the entitlement generation.

Capitalism is to blame, of course, for some of it. It has been so wildly successful in this country for so long that we are now used to recieving so much from our parents and we now expect it. There are a lot of reasons for this sense of entitlement, but I blame it on the overflowing success (and excess) of capitalism and the effect on the populace of the United States.

Capitalism sells the notion that happiness depends of heaps of trade goods. It doesn't: once you've enough to eat and a warm place to live you are just being brainwashed by your masters if you bother further.

Yeah, actually it's been proven that once an American reaches the $55,000-$75,000 mark, their brain feels accomplished because unless you do totally foolish stuff like make crazy investments you can live a better than average life until you die on that. So mentally a person is actually rich and feels rich. That's why the millionaires really don't have any feeling when they buy things or make another 10 mill. It's more than they will ever need anyway and they know their lifestyle won't change.
