‘Islam is RIGHT About Women’ flyers spark concern in Winchester

Islamic scripture (like most other scripture) will say all sorts of different things about women and those things will be interpreted in different ways by different people (Muslims or not). Without any context, the statement on the flyer is unclear at best.

As for the flyers themselves, I don’t see how we can assume who put them up and why? Was it Muslims trying to promote their faith, non-Muslims who agree with what (they think) Islam says about women, non-Muslims trying to create exactly the kind of negative reaction towards Muslims, some weird guerrilla marketing campaign or social experiment? We’ve literally no idea.

I think random flyers stuck up on public or private property without permission should be removed regardless of what they say. Free speech doesn’t mean free use of other people’s property and resources.

LoL at this thread still going as it's patently obvious that the flyers were a prank placed by probably students. The flyers are equivalent to the "end is nigh" fools hanging around street corners. The town is not much bigger than a village and probably has a Muslim population number that you could count on your fingers

Judaism, Christianity, and Islam all have the same roots. So, they tend to think alike about a lot of things. You can't look at one viewpoint about an issue without looking at all three because they are similar. Consider how Christians treated women for thousands of years.

 

Perhaps centuries ago there were similarities but that has nothing to do with the world today. Two have evolved but Islam hasn't. That's the whole point of this thread.

Any religious practitioner that denies groups of people basic rights is essentially trash in my eyes. If you follow Islam to the letter of the Koran you fall into this category.

I doubt though that Islam is some monolithic religion and its unfathomable that different branches and practitioners don't emphasize different aspects of the Koran while ignoring others.

Thus how much practical value Islam has, and how much I respect individual practitioners can be determined by how well they've adapted its teachings to the modern world. Or to put in another way, how few human rights are violated while following your interpretation of the faith.

 

When you can come up with a single positive thing you can say relating Islam to women, let us know.
