    Unbelievable.

    Now trees are racist.

What's more unbelievable is that black people have the power to convince the environmental wackos that these trees need to be cut down.

The lumber companies should start hiring ALL black people.

    Great.

Now they can enjoy the racist white balls breaking their windows.

In Palm Springs the time has arrived for victims of all shapes and sizes to be heard. My cousin moved to PS to be among his preferred crowd.

BTW, Palm Springs has the cool mailing address but it can be quite ghetto. It's Palm Desert that's more upscale.

like, you know that racist people have planned cities and architecture, right? there's actual neighborhoods in LA that are only accessible by highways that cut poor families off from the rest of the city specifically because planners in the 60s wanted poor black people to be stuck. this isn't a crazy, out-there idea, there's actual lasting legacies of racism because some people with the power to have real long term effects were incredibly hateful and bigoted.

This is the stupidest statement I have ever read.

Only racist would think that "planned cities and architecture" is racist.

Are such people are being held captive in these 'cut off' locations? What criteria is the administrative using to select captives? Is it degree of brownness? Hair curl? Net worth?

Meantime, we all know that by today's standards, folk of the past were all Satan. Most of us, however, don't linger there ... preferring personal progress in spite of any residual pebbles in our path.

the fact that these are people too poor to afford to own a car on top of living expenses that have drastically risen from when their family moved to LA and physically the only way out of their neighborhood is through the infamous chaos of LA traffic.

also redlining still has lingering effects

quit being stupid on purpose. you aren't nearly as stupid as what you're saying is, and in fact almost nobody is as stupid as what you just said. you know damn well that i was talking about persons who are racist handling urban planning and regulation in ways that deliberately and subtly harm black people, and your disingenous ass is here acting like you have reading comprehension so bad that you skipped over half of the words in my post. get out of here.

If they've been there for multiple generations (and therefore had many opportunities to educate themselves out of such places), yet they STILL don't have enough money for a cheap car, they very clearly want that 'poverty' lifestyle. So why are you demanding that it be changed?

I know someone who started life in such a neighbourhood. Young, poor, and three small children. He and his missus hated the area, and felt it wasn't a good place to raise kids. So his wife went to work at nights while he studied during the day. After about 10 years of this they managed to buy their way out. It was a long and hard road, but it was the choice they made.

The people you're talking about don't want to do that, so leave them alone.

sure, claw and struggle your way to almost getting out and watch it all get taken away when some accident you couldn't have expected replaces your savings with debt.

you're too naive about this ****. when you're at the bottom, your only hope for any kind of improvement is a very long stretch of time where absolutely nothing goes wrong, and the world sucks too bad for that.

life's a bitch and then you die, that's why folks get high.

It wasn't by design. It was government stupidity.

Don't go to malicious intent first, stupidity is more likely.

I'm the very opposite of naive about this. I come from poverty. Many people I know came from poverty and are now successful.
Avoiding financial security 'because disaster will just wipe you out' is one of the worst excuses I've ever heard. What a total load of garbage that is. An intrinsic element of financial security is having the means to ride out the hard times.

When you're at the bottom, you have exactly the same opportunities to move upwards as the next person. You can take it, or leave it, but in the end it's a choice you made. Do not blame others for the choices you make.

    Yep!

Just like an 8 box of crayons.

They've got a black one in there and a brown one, but there is no white crayon.

When are they gonna let my people go?

    Racism by design indeed.

yeah, you're absolutely naive about this because you got that lucky break and you've never seen anything crumble in front of you. survivorship bias is real.

you're really gonna trivialize serious issues that effect the totality of people's lives like this?

god, maybe malcolm x was right and expecting mainstream white society to ever care about the issues black people face is hopeless.

ahhh ... so it's magic now? lucky break? .. GIMME a break! It's flat out hard work. If it wasn't, all those Asians who arrive in America with modest means wouldn't now be outranking white folk in the money stakes. How many more excuses are you going to come up with?

Meantime, there is absolutely nothing magic about deciding that you'll work your @ss off 50 hours a week, forgoing holidays, restaurants, take away food, movies, new clothes, air conditioning, dishwasher, new shoes, clothes dryer, tv, decent cars, alcohol, a cell phone, internet, etc etc. I went without all of these things for many many years, in order to get where I am today. I lived like an actual pauper .. not like a pauper trying to live like a person of means. The difference is the hard work some don't want to do.

Really? You're mad at people who want to restore mountain and golf course views to their property? My god - the horror! Think of it! People wanting views of mountains! Who in f**k do they think they are! It's madness, I tell you, MADNESS! White people would have never asked that the view of mountains be restored to THEIR property!

Gods. This is really an a**hole thread.

Wanna bet? Sudden deaths, permanent disability, cancer, job losses, unexpected pregnancies, etc etc. I've seen all of these and more. We PLAN AHEAD for the inevitable slings and arrows of life, we don't spend up big now and hope nothing bad happens.

yeah, those are realistic things to go without and people should also have to go without them for social mobility. someone living in squalor and ruining their physical and psychological health to enrich others proves that the system works.

lemme just work 60 hours, which would require a patchwork of jobs that all suck and will undoubtedly not pay enough because 90% of post recession job growth was temp gigs and food service gigs, juggle those schedules, and then go home and wash my clothes in a river and beat them try on rocks for a couple more hours on top of my shifts. okay.

also, look at you acting like poor people go to restaurants and the movies. when i was a kid a splurge was us walking to the dollar tree, spending 10 bucks on soda and candy and watching pirated movies on my shitty beaten down computer

Using Google Maps I dropped myself onto some of the streets near this golf course. These people are nuts because they can still see the brown lifeless mountains and Zillow shows the houses to be quite nice and in the $400k range.

When the trees come down I suspect there will be complaints about the wind now being too strong or where did all the birds go?
