But would it be justified? How did catalans get to sardinia? I mean, they can't possibly be native to just that little bit of sardinia. And thus they'd have to have immigrated there, and then you might's well cede parts of new york to italy because of the italians there. and a bit to ireland.

I am from Balearic Islands, it is the "Paisos Catalans", I know well the problem and I assure you that you never will see a map so big of the Països Catalans and Murcia never is included.

PS: I am a bit independentist(well I am cofederalist, but I don't have bad eyes to the idea of independentism of the Països Catalans), so I know well the problem.

And if you want to make the map bigger you should include the French Catalonia. The Països Catalans are bigger but to the North, not to the South. The Reconquest never arrived to Murcia, well to some cities of the North but there is no more Catalan and no one feels forming part of that part, even in the South of Valencia we could make that affirmation.

Ah, and I forgot, also we should add Andorra, that is the only country of the world that the official language is the Catalan.

    Another proposal of Països Catalans:

Ok, now I revised your map again, and it is quite good, but there are missing parts of Catalunya Nord, it is the Perpignan... that are in the French part.

I think what happens to the EU would play a big part in this. Certainly if it collapses then maybe some of this stuff will mean something, but not right now. Also Scotland? I really don't think so.

Would be intressting. Anyways, a split up Germany or a unified one would both work for me. I mean, all the germans (including the austrians) are imho close enough to warrant a single german nation but if they feel that they'd like to split up into smaller regional states (bavaria, prussia, austria) they are fine to do so also.

This is close to becoming a reality? How wonderful! I hope they don't join the EU though, same with Scotland. What point is it of going from a union to another? In which you'd probably have even less power,

I don't think that they can be independants... First, did all the Catalans want it?...
For exemple, I've ever met a Spain Basque who said that she felt more Basque than Spainish, but that she felt Spainish. The pro-independence are often in minority.

MMM, about what age are you talking? Because the Basque youth that I've met are closer to Bildu(Independentist) than any other party. And today Basque Country has had elections and Bildu is the second most voted force and if things continue in this way in 4 years will be the most voted. And second most voted is PNV, that is not independentist also has sections of the parties that demand independence, so we have many votes that are close to independence.

However Basque Country have an exceptional situation and is almost an independent state, they enjoy their own fiscality, own police...

She was 17, as me, so, she was young... Maybe she was an exception, I don't konw.
I've to met some people of part of France who have the reputation to be independentalist as Corsian or Bretons, they said that they felt French even if they felt more Corsian, Breton to...

In my opinion, when a part of a country as Basque country, etc, etc... ask the independence, the idea is not to create a new state but to help their culture to be more represented.

Maybe in Spain; I'm not sure, but in French Basque Country, this is not the case!...

Well, I know the Spanish Basque Country. The French Basque Country is centralized like the rest without any autonomy. And that girl was from the French or the Spanish?

I must add also that there is difference between "euskaldunes" and people that is not.

Euskaldun: Person that speaks Basque as native language.

However when in Spain someone asks independence means independence, if not they would talk about more autonomy.

She was Basque Spansih, and Euskaldunes (Thanks you I've learn a new word!)!... I've met French Basque to, but, only in internet, not in real :(...

I think that it must be different in Spain than in France...
People said that there's a lot of people who want the independance in Spain... In France, there's to, but in these part of the country where some people want to be independents, other felt French, so, that's hard to make all those people in the "same bag"... that's always the people who don't want to be independant who are understood!... And, people who want the independence, as some Bretons, for exemple, say that they want it to protect their tongue, their culture, etc, etc... Not for be separate, in the bigest part of the case.

And in Europe the people what prefer? The independence of Catalonia or the union of Spain?

Normally in a democratics states, for exemple Canada or UK, the goverments allow create a referendum of independence ( Quebec or Scotland), but in the case of Spain I think that this possibility is imposible.

I think eachy group that feels they want to be independent should be so. However, many small countries aren't very strong so I think co-operation between either similar groups (iberia, germany+austria etc.) or even europe is preferable, on certain things like defense. I don't want a full federal europe tho, main priority is to maintain the cultural diversity.

    I'm not against that!...

For the langage, I think that we must protect all of them. It's make me sad to see that a lot of langages in France disappear, as the Breton... But I don't think that Catalans want to be independant, I've never hear about that. Maybe they want to preserve their culture, that's normal, but I don't think that they want be independant excepted for a very little minority.
