Now that idiot Shorten wants to reduce the voting age to 16! Why? "because these young people do not have a voice" Har har har har! 10 year olds don't have a 'voice' either Bill, why not drop the voting age to 10? Wait on, what about 8 and 9 year olds, that wouldn't be fair to them would it. Let's have no age limit on the voting age, if you are capable of filling in an electoral roll enrollment form then you can have your name on the roll and be allowed to vote.
I reckon they should put the voting age back up to 21.

Obviously all the leftards on this forum think Shorten is an idiot too, that's why they are making no comment.

Exude it from every orifice, namely the rear one. They can work and pay tax, why not vote. I think you'll find many have a much more more rounded view of the real world than the stuck in the dark ages, self proclaimed rightard gurus posting in this forum. I just wouldn't make it compulsory until 18.

16, 18 or 21? I am happy with 18, although I think what tv says is right as well. Difficult one,
    regards

The minimum age for recruits in the ADF is 17, so I don't know what Shorten was rambling on about. The ADF site says 17, but does also say "however they may be able to initiate the application process from 16 years and six months of age".

So what they can pay taxes can they... I bet its a lot LOL. They only have to wait 2 years so why bother - plus they are still kids and in the throws of puberty no less... it makes them very vulnerable to group think and other misleading group dynamics, they are often overreaching and trying new things to form a unique identity and place in the world. I think 16 year olds have other more important things to focus on.

Shorty and his pump tests are best performed where an adult is present.

Him being PM and another now an adult at sixteen is far more politically acceptable.

Being again at a place where his pump demonstration may occur, then who better for one he considers to be adult!

Why do you say that? They should be trying to stay at school, and failing that they are probably trying to survive. You really don't make much sense sometimes.

Shorten was running around telling everyone 16 year olds could fight in the military, work & pay taxes, and drive a car.... well you cannot get a full open license that young, so perhaps give them half a vote instead of a full one LOL.

Anyway, not only do you have to be 17 to serve in the military here, but according to the courts you are not an 'adult' until you are 17 or 18 (depending on which state).

So by those standards it would seem that 17 would be an ok suggestion to lower the age - but since its only 1 year it seems a bit of a waste of time, because again, those still in school (ideal) should be focused on school. The last 2 years of high school are the most important for them to remained focused and bringing politics down into high schools would be just another distraction and fracture to what should be about education. It's bad enough at Uni's to risk it spreading into high school where there are kids of all ages who can be distracted and manipulated by 'uni-style' politics.

There really is only one reason why Shorten wanted 16, and its because kids having to ditch school and work at 16 in low paying jobs are likely quite vulnerable in life, and therefore easy prey for the Union movement at their workforce to brainwash to "get them involved in politics', as Shorten says.

In the Northern Territory, Victoria, Tasmania and Queensland, children are dealt with in the adult criminal system once they turn 17. In all other States, in the ACT and under federal criminal law all children are juveniles for the purposes of the criminal law, that is until they turn 18.

The ALP again, showing it true colors, trying to bleed the nation for its own survival - one little cut at a time. Spare the children you greedy prick (Shorten), and try and do something constructive for a change.

Being able to join the army, drive a car or pay taxes has no connection whatsoever to the issue of voting. The question is do these people have the life experience to make an independent and properly considered decision about the candidate they are voting for. I would say most 18 year olds don't enough nouse to make a political decision.

I can only assume that Shorten reckons that at the age of 16 kids are more in favor of Labor. What else?
You might be right with your other remarks, my wife reckons I don't make sense too often......

Voting at 16 will actually provide an prime opportunity to introduce the political process through curriculum or stand alone course that will no doubt engage our young people through a meaningful connection. It will certainly provoke significant change by empowered youthful exuberance.

Isn't the political process already part of the curriculum?

Not in NSW's on any significant level. Don't even think there is a stand alone unit. Many students are bored as bat (*)(*)(*)(*) with other subjects they can't make connection with, let alone political science, which would have next to zero appeal, especially without a connection.

That's right, most young teenagers are bored as bat sh!t with everything except the opposite sex and their own appearance. Most have a future horizon of around one week and most are completely oblivious to what is going on in the (adult) world around them.
