I see absolutely no reason why 16 year olds should not have the ability to vote. I was 14 when I joined this forum and 'crossed swords' with many on political and sociological subjects. While obviously not as well-informed or experienced as many of you good people here, I was able to maintain a passable discussion in the socio-political arena (as do many young people). I do not consider myself exceptional in any way, so I do not see why most 16 year olds cannot come to valid political conclusions based upon the information available to their parents and older companions.
I went to a supermarket not long ago and had to buy a small carton of chocolate bars. There were 36 bars at $2 and it was going to cost me $72 The girl at the checkout was about 16. She started counting the bars. I said "you dont have to count them...there are nine rows of four..thats 36 and at $2 a bar, thats $72....simple" "Wow" she said..."how did you do that" I said Mental arithmetic" She said "whats that"................. Then the girl at the next checkout said "Its impordant to learn these things aint it".... Yeah...give the vote to 16 year olds.....
Vote in a government but be unable to speak for yourself until an adult 18, its just Shorty blowing out his arse again! .
Yep, there aren't a great deal of adults that are well informed and have been voting for years. Comparing generations, 16 year olds these days are much more clever than previous on the whole. I do understand the fairytale setting that my generation and older may have about our generation but it is all made up and part of the little strategy to keep the current younger generation in check and make ourselves feel good at the same time, but, built on pretension. "When I was your age" has been used through the generations.! You would have sworn utopia was real based on the stories.
