Argued only by people who choose to ignore what the people who wrote the constitution and the bill of rights CLEARLY SAID were the reasons. The constitution by it self can do nothing to stop a tyrannical government from doing as it wishes twisting their own minds to justify the tyranny.
Words protect nothing unless followed up BY THE PEOPLE WITH THE POWER.
You are completely wrong, as the quotes from the founding fathers will conclusively prove"

"A free people ought not only to be armed, but disciplined..."
    - George Washington, First Annual Address, to both House of Congress, January 8, 1790

"No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms."
    - Thomas Jefferson, Virginia Constitution, Draft 1, 1776

"I prefer dangerous freedom over peaceful slavery."
    - Thomas Jefferson, letter to James Madison, January 30, 1787

"What country can preserve its liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance. Let them take arms."
    - Thomas Jefferson, letter to James Madison, December 20, 1787

"The laws that forbid the carrying of arms are laws of such a nature. They disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes.... Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man."
    - Thomas Jefferson, Commonplace Book (quoting 18th century criminologist Cesare Beccaria), 1774-1776

"A strong body makes the mind strong. As to the species of exercises, I advise the gun. While this gives moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprise and independence to the mind. Games played with the ball, and others of that nature, are too violent for the body and stamp no character on the mind. Let your gun therefore be your constant companion of your walks." - Thomas Jefferson, letter to Peter Carr, August 19, 1785

"The Constitution of most of our states (and of the United States) assert that all power is inherent in the people; that they may exercise it by themselves; that it is their right and duty to be at all times armed."
    - Thomas Jefferson, letter to to John Cartwright, 5 June 1824

"On every occasion [of Constitutional interpretation] let us carry ourselves back to the time when the Constitution was adopted, recollect the spirit manifested in the debates, and instead of trying [to force] what meaning may be squeezed out of the text, or invented against it, [instead let us] conform to the probable one in which it was passed."
    - Thomas Jefferson, letter to William Johnson, 12 June 1823

"I enclose you a list of the killed, wounded, and captives of the enemy from the commencement of hostilities at Lexington in April, 1775, until November, 1777, since which there has been no event of any consequence ... I think that upon the whole it has been about one half the number lost by them, in some instances more, but in others less. This difference is ascribed to our superiority in taking aim when we fire; every soldier in our army having been intimate with his gun from his infancy."
    - Thomas Jefferson, letter to Giovanni Fabbroni, June 8, 1778

“They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety."
    - Benjamin Franklin, Historical Review of Pennsylvania, 1759

"To disarm the people...s the most effectual way to enslave them."
    - George Mason, referencing advice given to the British Parliament by Pennsylvania governor Sir William Keith, The Debates in the Several State Conventions on the Adooption of the Federal Constitution, June 14, 1788

"I ask who are the militia? They consist now of the whole people, except a few public officers."
    - George Mason, Address to the Virginia Ratifying Convention, June 4, 1788

"Before a standing army can rule, the people must be disarmed, as they are in almost every country in Europe. The supreme power in America cannot enforce unjust laws by the sword; because the whole body of the people are armed, and constitute a force superior to any band of regular troops."
    - Noah Webster, An Examination of the Leading Principles of the Federal Constitution, October 10, 1787

"Besides the advantage of being armed, which the Americans possess over the people of almost every other nation, the existence of subordinate governments, to which the people are attached, and by which the militia officers are appointed, forms a barrier against the enterprises of ambition, more insurmountable than any which a simple government of any form can admit of."
    - James Madison, Federalist No. 46, January 29, 1788

"The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. A well regulated militia, composed of the body of the people, trained to arms, is the best and most natural defense of a free country."
    - James Madison, I Annals of Congress 434, June 8, 1789

"...the ultimate authority, wherever the derivative may be found, resides in the people alone..."
    - James Madison, Federalist No. 46, January 29, 1788

"Necessity is the plea for every infringement of human freedom. It is the argument of tyrants; it is the creed of slaves."
    - William Pitt (the Younger), Speech in the House of Commons, November 18, 1783

You are correct about the Model 70 being a Winchester and the 700 is a Remington. I can see how it can be confusing. Now let's throw in the Ruger model 77!

While some model 70's were used as sniper rifles in Nam, USMC introduced the M40 sniper rifle in 1966. The M40 is based on a Remington 700 action and is most commonly chambered in 7.62 NATO or .308Win to us civilians.

I too have an original pre-64 Model 70 in 270. Mine is a featherweight with the 22 inch barrel.

Petitioning for redress of grievances is in our First Amendment, not our Second Amendment. That is the law. All you have is hearsay and soothsay.

Shattering the pelvic bone of an attacker is quite effective in neutralizing whatever threat they present. As is snapping their neck with enough force to turn their head around one hundred and eighty degrees. However both remain difficult to reliably achieve under real world circumstances, especially when you are not in full control of the situation you find yourself in.

It is a simple fact of life that there are circumstances in which anything less than lethal force is a non-option. Individuals whose comprehension has been compromised due to the consumption and use of illicit substances, and can remain unfazed despite being subjected to chemical agents and electrical shock, remain a significant danger to contend with. Police officers have shot violent suspects in the heart, and despite it being a lethal wound they do not immediately go down due to the amount of adrenaline coursing through their systems.

Whether or not you acted in self defense is irrelevant here. Aside from taking martial arts lessons, if you prepare yourself in any way you have committed an offense.

I have no doubt it would be illegal to carry knowledge of martial arts if it was physically possible to leave your hands and feet at home.

So, you'd effectively have two classes of citizens. Those who own firearms, and those who can't own them because they came to majority after the law. Such devotion to freedom! Prohibition was evil, and your amendment idea goes against the very spirit for freedom this country was, allegedly, founded upon.

The only benefit I see is that it does not exclude government ownership. But, I doubt that you'd disarm the government. After all, how would you then enforce your amendment and all the other authoritarian measures you demand?

That is actually correct Daniel about the 1st. I am stunned! The 2nd amendment is what protects each individual's right to possess arms capable of preventing governmental tyranny. I have fact and absolute proof on my side.

Are you capable of even understanding absolute proof Daniel. I doubt it!

No you don't have any proof on your side. Rights in private property are secured in State Constitutions not our federal Constitution which secures, Due Process.

You are simply arguing legal fantasy.

I have presented reams of proof Daniel. Are you incapable of reading English? Do I need to repeat them? Would you accept them now since you refuse to acknowledge fact in several previous postings?

87 to nine. most likely 87 people who are well armed against 9 who count on others with guns to impose their desires on the rest of us

not much of a fight if it comes to that

As do I Daniel, but what does your fantasy about being a gun control nut have to do with this? Our supreme law of the land is the constitution, and the bill or rights, which guarantee EVERY law abiding citizen has the right to keep and bear arms, and I have consistently put forth proof of that statement.

The unorganized militia IS WELL REGULATED WITH 10 U.S. Code § 311 - Militia: composition and classes. It consists of every able bodied man (and some women) in order to eliminate the confusion you harbor about what our WELL REGULATED MILITIA is described and codified.

You are referring to natural rights which are recognized and secured in State Constitutions, not our federal Constitution.

Classification is not regulation. Not all of the militia of the United States is well regulated.

If you are of appropriate age and health YOU ARE WELL REGULATED as codified in 10 US Code 311. (That means physically and mentally able)

Only well regulated militia are declared necessary to the security of a free State. States provide for well regulated militia.

CODIFICATION IS. Both the organized and the unorganized are well regulated by law. Regulations are rules or laws, not some massive supervised force except for the Guard. You need to learn about the things of which you speak Daniel as it is obvious you do not understand the 2nd amendment which is CONSTITUTIONAL GUARANTEED RIGHT OF INDIVIDUALS TO KEEP AND BEAR ARMS, to prevent tyranny of the government, to kill your food, or to simply shoot for sport.

States AND FEDERAL provide for a well regulated militia. And nothing you have presented so far proves that the 2nd does not guarantee all PRIVATE PERSONS from owning and bearing arms. Laws do preclude felons or mentally unstable people (maybe even you Daniel) from owning a firearm. Your very attitude should preclude you from any dangerous weapon.

Don't show up to have a knife fight with me, because I would automatically bring a firearm to a knife fight.

What is obvious, is that Will Robinson needs more public service announcements, before you obtain your doctorate, master Smith. Our Second Amendment expressly declares which Body of the People shall not be Infringed when keeping and bearing Arms for their State or the Union.

    - - - Updated - - -

because, natural rights, including the acquisition and possession of property in the class called Arms, is secured in State Constitutions not our federal Constitution.
