And yet 80% of the germans died fighting against russia. By the time you arrived the germans where already loosing both in ww1 and 2. Proof me wrong instead lf making bogus claims.

I know it doesnt fit your typical american ego that you wherent the deciding factor but atleast try
The atlantic was never the majority of the germans but only a fraction of it. If russia wasnt fighting the bulk of the german forces then overlord may have been a disaster

In any case Overlord probably would have happend without the americans to the main difference is that russia probably would have taken a bigger piece before it was over. And it would have been later.

( not saying the americans are bad in any way but you where pretty late in both wars and it is established that by overlord it was already a lost war for germany)

    seriously are you that ignorant?
best you check real history and not the propaganda they teach you

here are the facts undisputable facts

    Fact
America entered the war in Dec 1941 Germany was advancing in Russia

    Fact
In 1942 America started fighting the Germans in North Africa requiring Germany to send troops and resources there and in 1942 Germany started the construction of the Atlantic wall yet again tying up more men and recourses. Germany was still advancing in Russia

    Fact
German didn't start losing the war in Russia not till the surrender at Stalingrad which was in 1943 two years after America entered the war
after Germany was forced to tie up men and resources fighting the Americans in N. Africa and building the Atlantic wall
Men and resources that could have instead been used in Russia challenging the outcome there

here is where you fail you been taught that America had no impact on the war not till D-Day which is a lie America had an impact on the war starting in 1942 tying up German troops and resources in N. Africa and the construction and the manning of the Atlantic wall men and resources which instead could have been used in Russia changing the outcome there

those are the facts the undisputed facts facts you cant deny unless you want to verify your ignorance

good try but your just showing your own ignorance and especially arrogance

Nazi germany declared war on the US not the other way arround, it could have been months or longer if it was the other way arround.
by the time the Americans did anything in europe the war was already lost for Germany its simple fact.
dont have to look when germany declared war but by the time the americans where actually in europe in significant amount to even make a difference

the batle of moscow was OCT-JAN 1941 at wich point the russians beat the germans back(during the declaration of war on the US)
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Barbarossa
on 22 June 1941, the Wehrmacht as a whole had 209 divisions at its disposal, 163 of which were offensively capable. On 31 March 1942, less than one year after the invasion of the Soviet Union, the Wehrmacht was reduced to fielding 58 offensively capable divisions

they got pushed back and had one more fairly desperate attempt to get to Baku for the oil wich ended with the batle of stalingrad early 1943.
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Stalingrad

stil more then a year before overlord
sure you bombed a civilians and invaded africa fact remains you had no significant impact in the war until overlord wel after germany already essentially lost (no oil no men running out of gear and fuel)

the germans never commited alot of recourses in Africa mostly due logistic problems and it was viewed as a not very important side theater by hitler
and we can all agree the Americans aided significantly in terms of suplies and logistic support but overlord isnt as important as you claim.

The "USA" is not racist. It's just the name given to a huge group of people, some of whom are indeed racist but many of whom are not. So that statement is idiotic. A better more accurate one would be to say that "The USA is home to some racist people".

In your rush to find something to condemn, you overlooked the basis of this "identity" question... i.e. 'Should a person who is a mulatto (a person of mixed white and black ancestry, especially a person with one white and one black parent.) be identified as such?'

But, following your illogical pursuit of a connection between being "German" and being a "Nazi", the first glaringly obvious problem is that there is no 'race-mixing' paradigm that applies! :spin:

Or, to put it on a level you may find easier to comprehend, one can be "German" AND "Nazi" without any reference at all to what RACE the person is, or to what mixture of races the person is. :omg:

Follow along with me >> you can be Black and be German. You can be Black and be a Nazi. You can be White and be German. You can be White and be a Nazi. You can be a Mulatto and be German. You can be a Mulatto and be a Nazi. BUT -- by definition -- you can't be a Mulatto unless you are "a person of mixed white and black ancestry, especially a person with one white and one black parent."

The rest of your rant, shotgunned broadly at all Trump supporters, is nothing but a procession of typically mundane, Leftist farts in a bathtub.

Hint: Obama isn't the worst American president of at least the last 50 years specifically because he happens to be a Mulatto.... :graduate:

Such as? When people talk about progressives, they don't always have the same definitions. What values do you oppose?

Not that I disagree, but to have a parent come in and disrupt a class because he/she doesn't like the curriculum is wrong. Change the curriculum at the proper level--usually the states control the curriculum.

They really don't have any other option. I got tired of the poor grammar and lack of writing skills, so I did mini-lessons on grammar and made all my test essay tests. I was told three times to stop because grammar isn't on the test and essays don't provide objective and easily quantifiable data.

Point taken. I should not have made it personal. I apologize.

[sarcasm] Your people were stones?[/sarcasm] I traced my paternal side back five generations in Germany, but oddly enough my blood shows more British and Irish. German was a much smaller percentage. Anyway...

While I agree that we shouldn't feel ashamed of who we are, my question is why do we need to label others? Is it an attempt to separate others out of our group? Obama could never have been a White guy. Being half and half means he can be a mulatto, or a Black, but not a White. What I'm trying to understand is why is there a need to label people in such a way that it prevents them from being one of us?

And just for fun, Vikings were Scandinavian. "We gardena in geardagum þeodcyninga þrym gefrunon hu ða æþelingas ellen fremedon...."

Absolutely true. Those large labels we like to use to categorize others are not accurate. When we say "the Right, the left, progressives, and so forth, we make the same mistake. Adding in those four letters (some) can really change how we sound to others.

They've had their heads filled with propaganda all their lives, and now they're exiting university and entering the real world. Once they start earning close to the median wage they'll see how crushing income tax is to your ability to get ahead through hard work.

    Age changes many things.

and yet again with you utter propagandized ignorance you ignore the Germans forced to build that Atlantic wall and defending N. Africa both forcing Germany to tie up resources and men that would have been used in Russia changing the outcome in that front
and yes Germany failed to capture Moscow but they were still advancing in Russia all the way to Stalingrad Germany didn't start retreating not till their surrender there a year after America entered the war

In the end, many historians believe the Battle at Stalingrad marked a major turning point in the conflict. It was the beginning of the march toward victory for the Allied forces of Russia, Britain, France and the United States.

    https://www.history.com/topics/world-war-ii/battle-of-stalingrad

And it wasn't the Americans that were bombing civilian targets that was done by the cowardly Brits only running night time bombing runs indiscriminately bombing cites
it was the Americans that were doing their bombing runs during the day so to be able to target strategic targets like factories, fuel depots, and military instillations which greatly hindered Germanys war production

so its nothing but ignorant propaganda to say Germany was losing before America entered the war

ps I am a historian when it comes the WW2 so give it up there isn't nothing you can tell me about the war that I don't already know so best you bow out because you wont get anything passed me

I didn't refer to Scandinavians, but rather to those who were members of tribes in what the Romans referred to as "Germania". That is my ancestral identity... and I happen to be a White person. It does not offend me in the least to have an "identification" among others of the human race. You could certainly have British and/or Irish ancestors because (as you surely know) there were successive waves of invaders to what we call the British Isles from all over Scandinavia, Northern "Gaul" (France), Northern "Germania", Denmark, etc. Not a few of these people went back home, too....

Look... George Washington was not a great president because he was White, any more than Obama was a horrible president because he was a half-Black, half-White "Mulatto". Nevertheless, Washington (and the other Founders of this nation) were products of advanced societies which gave us, among many other things, Grecian Democracy, Roman Law, English Common Law, parliamentary forms of government, etc.

Obama? His 'claim to fame' seems to have been an ability to read a prepared script well, to make a presentable appearance, and to be in a position where he was empowered to give away billions of dollars worth of 'free stuff' to people who came to expect it.

Washington and the other founders of this nation risked their very lives, and everything they owned, in order to fight against the tyranny of the English Monarchy -- and they won! Obama? All he did was what his masters at the Federal Reserve System told him to do, while handing out the welfare 'goodies' and subsidies, and keeping the American 'cattle' from kicking down the corral.

How can the two men be compared at all...? In the minds of Americans who have had no education beyond the force-fed crap they got in the hyperliberal-infested public school systems, it is an easy comparison indeed! Nauseating.

Actually, it was the photo you posted. The statue is of a Viking, not German.

And there you go with the advanced societies again.
First, Obama was not alive in any time of rebellion when we were breaking away from colonial rulers, so the comparison is weak. Second, if being a war-time leader is required to be considered a great leader, then most of our presidents don't fit. that category.
Second, Grecian democracy had many forms, some of which we'd call mob rule today. Which form are you referring to? Obama was also from an advanced society that had all those things mentioned. And let's not forget that those founding fathers borrowed part of their beliefs from the Native Americans when forging the Constitution.

I have no real interest in arguing Obama. I don't care about him one way or the other. He was neither as good nor as bad as people say he was. He was just another Bush.

if your a historian then i fear for the American education even more
Germans spend recources sure but it was nothing compared to what they used on the russian front, it would not have made much of a difference in the long run.

Stalingrad like you sayd the turningpoint of the war had nothing to do with Americans either it was the russians that stopped the germans

Americans bombed at night to atleast they did at dresden, you burned the entire city alongside the british

for a historian you sure love to twist facts
you admit yourself the turning point of the war happend at stalingrad wich is at the same time the germans declared war on America so how where the germans not loosing already by the time americans started ?

"When people talk about progressives, they don't always have the same definitions. What values do you oppose?"

I oppose all of the typical safe-spacery stuff, the relativism, the social engineering, political activism, revisionist history...(I suppose that I could think of more).

"...to have a parent come in and disrupt a class because he/she doesn't like the curriculum is wrong."

I agree completely. I understand that my view is impractical, but that guy should've ended up before a judge.

"They really don't have any other option. I got tired of the poor grammar and lack of writing skills, so I did mini-lessons on grammar and made all my test essay tests. Yep. That is exactly the type of idiocy that I oppose.

The thread topic is, "46% Young Americans Believe USA Is Racist, 44% believe Obama greater than George Washington". If you don't want to discuss Obama, I suggest you migrate to another thread....

Sorry, the labels listed are as broad as the category of "progressives," and are really the same thing on the right and the left. For example, I grew up in a military environment, and social engineering was a priority then. In school, the history we learned was a revisionist history devoid of any of the negative aspects of our past. And things such as Unite the Right rallies are no less than political activism. The point is both sides are doing these things. The villain there is the hero here.

True, but it takes time to call for security (it was a large campus with separate buildings for each department), have them come to the room, only to have the principal refuse to file charges because it wouldn't like good on the news. It's not worth the loss of instructional time.

That is the legacy of the push for accountability. Testing is supposed to measure student learning, but it's not really used for that. It's used mostly to determine if the principal and teachers will have a job. It's all about the statistics, and actual learning--such as learning to use the language--is of little interest to the data-miners. The worst thing about in my state is that the test means almost nothing to students. We tried holding them accountable by using their scores as part of their final grades, but in the end, if a parent challenges it, the grades will get changed. End result? Two hour testing sessions are over in twenty minutes. C is statistically the most common answer. The point here is that we've reduced most learning to nothing more than an annoying hoop for students to jump through, and a huge trove of data that is improperly used.. IMO, much of what is lumped into the large label-categories is politicized and when it comes right down to it, we probably have far fewer differences that we think.

Ha! I like that. A hat with real bird wings is worth at least two sisters, but this guy is stoned.
I'm sure there was plenty of interbreeding between those who we call Germanic and those we call Nordic. Vikings were originally coastal Danes who seem to have gotten bored with fishing for a living. The language spoken was a Germanic language, however, genetically speaking, the Northern European dna groups are distinct from the German groups. The only conclusion we should draw is that even though they were closely related, they were separated (genetically) long enough for their dna to group.

I actually love learning about Old English, which is a Germanic language, and have tried hard to learn how to write using runes. I can do my name, but not a lot more than that. I got interested in all that when I first read Beowulf. I had a side-by-side translated version, and tried to read it in Old English. Only after I heard an audio version did I realize how bad my pronunciations were. As I learned more, I realized how much of that language is still with us. Ān geþēode (Spræc, if you prefer) is nǣfre genōg.

You were more focused on the Obama thing, and I was more focused on the racist thing. I guess that makes it hard to discuss. Oh well...It's always fun.

Are we still discussing what gets taught in schools?

    -------------------------------------------------

I don't know what the answer to our failing educational system is.

We do need some way to promote excellence, or at least competence.

And we have to stop teaching kids to be angry, emotional cripples.

I didn't mean it as something that's taught in schools--at least not yet.
I retired from teaching last June. I had an interesting and enjoyable career, but I've also had to put up with a lot of interference by so called "educational movements." As the federal government got more involved in education, education became more and more political and bureaucratic. Things like a standardized curriculum are little more than a preparation for corporatized education by those who used to sell textbooks. When I started teaching, textbooks varied from state to state and from school to school. We teachers selected the books our school would use. The texbooks were different versions printed by only a handful of companies. Those companies started marketing online textbooks, along with lessons and activities.

Today, schools don't spend money on textbooks. The last textbook adoption we had was in 2004. Now, kids are given laptops or tablets instead of books, and access to books requires site licenses and technology fees. In addition to online textbooks and activities, students also have access to all the answers, which people post online. It's so easy for kids to cheat, that they see no benefit in learning. I've had some tell me in all honesty that they know it's wrong, but if the schools put them in a position where they can simply google answers, it's like giving permission to do so. They know that they won't actually be held accountable for learning anything, so why waste the time? We teachers complained, and the school gave us software that allowed us to monitor each computer in the room, but that was quickly trashed when parents complained about privacy rights.

I don't know the answer to today's problems, but one thing I do believe we need is an education network that is isolated from the rest of the internet. I think we need to allow school districts to decide the curriculum that's appropriate for their community. I also would like to see teachers have more autonomy in the class. My personal philosophy is that we should teach how to think, not what to think, so I would have spent a lot of time teaching critical thinking skills. This one-size-fits-all, highly politicized approach to teaching and learning is a failure. I know I sound a bit negative, but we are not educating our children like we should. I loved teaching and working with kids, some of whom came back to teach alongside me, so retiring was not an easy choice. But we have to step back, give schools and teachers more autonomy, and stop shooting ourselves in the feet. [/rant]
