And what good does "writing on issues" serve to do when chose in charge simply decide not to listen?

The pen did nothing for Belgium.

As soon as people ignore what is written the pen becomes worthless.

It's interesting that we are currently talking about some people, gun control nuts, want to ignore what our founding fathers wrote.

Exactly like what has already happened in France.

Totally false, overtaxing anyone results in a loss of investments and offshoring, and in the end tax revenue drops versus rising.

I am not in expert in Economics. I can only observe that in Canada and Scandinavia, the Welfare State does work.

Indeed, building a functioning Welfare State is difficult. In Canada and Scandinavia, it was built by hundreds of legislators and experts working over decades.

And as the united states is neither the nation of Canada, or the nation of Scandinavia, such comparisons are without merit. Cease making them in further discussions.

Get over it, that's just life in the U.S.

Totally false, guns are not toys, they are tools, you really have no idea about them do you?

Why should anyone in the U.S. want to build a welfare state where the population is dependent on the government for what they need to live, and in return become slaves of that government?

If one wish's to connect themselves to the government teat, fine, but they should not wish that upon a majority of people in the U.S. who want freedom, uncontrolled by corrupt politician's who dole out trivial benefits for votes to those who want to drink the poisoned and addicting milk, which they offer.

A majority of people in the U.S. do not, nor do they wish to mooch off the hard earned income of others, and they find those who do, to be not just odd, but borderline criminals, for those people steal from the workers to support themselves while doing noting productive for the greater society.

In my opinion the mooches (those who can produce, but are unwilling to) should be required to become productive in one way or another, or be institutionalized and put to work within that process.

Once upon a time you could have said the same thing about slavery.

Slavery was indeed legal in the united states at one time in its history. But murder has never been legal, within the united states or elsewhere. Such is the key defining difference. One is an absence of freedom while the individual is alive and they are regarded as nothing more than property, but the other is the deliberate and permanent ending of one or more lives. The two are simply not similar nor comparable to one another.

As to the matter of suicide, it is a personal choice made by the individuals, and thus is not comparable to the others.

So is murder more acceptable than slavery? What's your point? Both involve a gross violation of rights. Well Bonded thinks that such a violation should be accepted as "just life".

That's not what I think at all, what I do recognize is there is a cost to benefit ratio that must be considered, and too many times when it comes to gun control the GCA's only consider the benefits, while ignoring the costs, costs, which many times results in a greater number of deaths to the law abiding versus criminals being killed by those who are law abiding.

And when one digs into the backgrounds and opinions of GCA's it is quite often discovered many GCA's place the rights and lives of criminals above the rights and lives of the law abiding which is simply wrong and unforgivable.

Plus when one looks into the leadership of the GCA movement it becomes quite clear, they believe guns are great as long as they are used to protect them but they work hard to eliminate that basic right to those of lesser means, and that is truly a bigoted attitude.

The two worst ways to fight violent crime are.

    1. Taking away the tools of self defense.

    2. Passing more laws that simply asks the violent to not be violent.

The best thing we can do is introduce self defense into PE in highschool.

Totally false, people in the U.S. are some of the most caring folks you will find anywhere in the world and they are truly caring as defined by their work and actions, compared to those who claim to care, but do so only in their words.

When was the last time you did something to make someone else's life better or safer?

    No such statement was made.

That murder and slavery are not comparable to one another.

If the more violent individuals currently plaguing society in the united states were not continually released back into society time and time again, despite proving that they cannot and will not abide by the rules of society, such would simply not be a problem. These are individuals who have proven themselves to be dangerous to everyone around them, thus meaning they are devoid of a reason for remaining free in society.

What is not understood, either on the part of yourself or others, is the united states plays host to a culture of violence. A subculture where all manner of violence, ranging from random assaults, to sexual assaults, all the way up to and including murder, are glamorized and glorified as if they were acceptable acts. Until such time this subculture is not only addressed, but outright eliminated, no meaningful change can ever be had.

Taking away my right to buy, own , keep and carry an AR 15 alleviates no suffering and doesn't show concern about anyone or anything but power.

Somehow, in Canada and Scandinavia and parts of West Europe, all people in need are provided with food, housing, and medical care. That is very important.

The problem with guns is that they make murder and suicide attempts much more likely to succeed.

USA already has the highest Incarceration Rate in the World. US Prisons are much much more inhumane then prisons in Europe, Canada, Scandinavia.

Which at times can be a very positive advantage, if a criminal attacks a armed law abiding citizen, yes he might be killed, which is a good ending, likewise if a suicidal person utilizes a gun to end their life, there is a very good chance it's over with, versus having them fail to kill themselves by another method and end up institutionalized as a vegetable, at taxpayers expense for as long as the machines can keep them alive.

And what does that have to do with this thread, other than fact you want people to feel sorry for you as you are part of that gene pool?

Totally irrelevant to the subject of this thread.

And prisons in the U.S. are very humane to those who are detained there.

Welfare states do not address the actual problems plaguing society. They simply serve to mask them and hide them from the public view. In truth they make an already bad situation even worse.

The number of murders and suicides committed without firearms demonstrates this claim is false. Not merely factually incorrect, but outright and deliberately false.

Which has what relevance to this discussion, exactly?

Prisons are supposed to be inhumane so their presence will discourage individuals from breaking laws and engaging in criminal behavior. They should not be regarded as the equivalent of country clubs that should be attended for their services and prestige.
