    So 85 people have the same amount of money as 3 billion poor people etc etc. Lets move past that, I have one question for you to consider;

If those 85 people used their various assets to buy an enormous amount of fuel, the last remaining reserves in fact that would last the rest of us another 100 years, to use for their newly built quadrillion dollar spaceships boost to the nearest start system. And were about to take off to join that spaceship, with the fuel about to be transported to their ship......

Or in fact if they dramatically used any vital element with their wealth.....

Would you have anything to say about it?

    Good luck?! Bon Voyage!

    or

    Somebody stop that?!

    Tell me....

I suggest we round them up and waterboard them until they all agree to live within their new means, which should be decided by the Committee, appointed py the World's people's representatives.

Then we deposit all the acquired riches into the World bank, set for this specific purpose and appoint another people's committee led by none other then Barak Husseign Obama; said committee will be charged with spreading the redistributed wealth.

And what a nice place will the World then be!

The people outlined in that article are all inheritors of their massive wealth and estates. So obviously, inheritances are the culprit. We as a collective society need to outlaw the practice of leaving estates behind to our heirs, because by God, everybody ought to be borne into this world with absolutely nothing!

The fact that you have to make up such a ridiculous hypothetical only hurts, not helps, the point you are trying to make.

Hey guess what? I, by myself, have a higher net worth than the bottom 50 million Americans combined. In fact, I can conservatively estimate that my net worth is roughly $10 billion dollars higher than the bottom 50 million Americans combined. That's an honest-to-goodness, true statistic.

Sounds like great news, clearly despite your wealth your still so bored you peruse political websites rather than more expensive and productive pursuits.

So why didnt you go for the good luck and bon voyage option?

    - - - Updated - - -

Carbon dioxide, and cheap labour really. Oh and they can convert food into fertiliser. What do those 85 people produce, the same?

But youve got a very Interesting take ,so why didnt you go for the let them go and say good luck option?

It's not 0% or 100%. People can still be able to inherit a comfortable life without inherit enough to become modern aristocracy with the money to start their own space programs.

Yes, I like to peruse this website while watching a game on TV during commercials, timeouts, etc.

I have a positive net worth. I'm not going to tell you how positive, but rest assured that when I made my calculation, I assumed a personal net worth of $0. Based on that assumption alone, I can truly say I am wealthier than the bottom 50 million Americans combined and my net worth is conservatively estimated at around $10 billion higher than that group's combined net worth.

    Think about it.

Your post shows a lack of understanding. In your OP you bring up income inequality... and then you start talking about wealth. There is a difference between income and wealth. Until you understand the difference there isn't much point in discussing it with you.

Just so you know those 85 people who are supposedly worth over 1 trillion don't actually have $1 trillion dollars, which makes statements like
kind of funny to anyone who understands. Most of their wealth is tied up in investments and their value is calculated by adding up all the estimated worth of those investments.

Let them go. As far as income inequality, who cares. don't like being poor? Do something about it, besides whining and crying and screaming income inequality. Blaming others for your position is also poop. not all billionaires inherit their wealth, and even if they did, someone had to start with nothing to achieve it. If they can do it anyone can do it. The real question is are you willing to do it. Stop relying on the government to bail you out. Bail yourself out. Educate yourself, train yourself, promote yourself to employers, or better yet get your own business, make it work.

No they didn't. Most of them are first-generation wealthy.

More to the point, the top 100 non-governmental wealthy, control $1.3 trillion in assets against the combined $100 trillion that the world has. Where is the other $98.7 trillion?

think what you are trying to say is the bottom 50 million Americans have a total net worth of negative 10 billion, because they owe more of their property then they own and you are about evenly split, or own and owe nothing.

We will probably never know. Remember, the other 85 have half the wealth. A lot of good that does the 3 billion.

Who needs to be rounded up, the super wealthy or the super poor?

That Obama deflection must be a reflex by now.

Do you really think their money is sitting in some big Scrooge McDuck vault?

The money is being used to float countless companies each decade. Those companies create the lives that we enjoy today, without many if those companies far far fewer people would even be sustainable to live.

    This leftist economics is hysterical.

Maybe they could contribute a little to their fellow man maybe. I have seen these places. Plenty of work to be done. Those 85 can't do everything.

Apparently they already have. They control half the money. It's their move now. Or, maybe no move at all. What do they care. They already have half the wealth. They'll probably just sit on it. They have no other obligations to the 3 billion at this point.

Oh the 85 have done their part for sure as evidenced by all the money people have them to make thei lives better with the goods and services they sold.

I am talking about the 3 billion. When are they going to do something useful for their fellow man and get paid?

You make more then a few billion of the people on earth. If you think giving them cash is the answer go for it. You can make a few of them pretty rich by just giving up your own salary.

Well when those 3 billion get to work then they will have more cash then the 85. In the mean time, no work no pay sounds fine to me. Otherwise people would have to be productive just to keep them fed. Even a sloth can provide for themselves, surely most of these 3 billion can too.
