Not on my top ten list of global worries I can assure you, but I do find this article interesting. My point is simple. The USA is being dictated by environmentalists and global warming extremists where the untold billions of resources are being wasted on this overrated scourge. Overrated compared to national security, our economy, illegals and open borders, gang violence and its effects, the numbers of poor and homeless not receiving the care needed, sexual trafficking and exploitation of minors, mental illness, and the clear breakdown of the family and its morals.

I might add, I find it startling that the city of Los Angeles is currently painting its city streets pure white to help combat global warming at a cost of $40,000 per mile. http://www.foxnews.com/us/2018/04/1...ts-white-in-bid-to-combat-climate-change.html
Like L.A. or California has the funds to waste on that. All the money the USA spends on global pollution will not make a dent. Do or think whatever you want with this.

Up to 95 per cent of plastic polluting the world's oceans pours in from just ten rivers in Asia and Africa, according to new research.
While China is responsible for 2.4 million tons of plastic that makes its way into the ocean, nearly 28 percent of the world total, the United States contributes just 77,000 tons, which is less than one percent, according to the study published in the journal Science.

The Department of Defense, the Pentagon, and several other agencies say otherwise: It is considered to be a significant threat to national security.

Maybe you should write a letter and explain why they don't know what they are talking about. Cite your credentials, where you got your Ph.D., your long history as a climate expert, and your published works.

Look up the heat island effect. Cities run much hotter than the natural temperature. Black roads, black roofs, a lack of vegetation, and all of that heat being generated by autos and trucks, can elevate the local temperatures dramatically. By reducing the heat island effect, they offset, the demand for electricity, medical emergencies, auto accidents, and even violence.

Yes, I know. President Obama reminded the world himself that global warming was the greatest threat to our national security, more than terrorism, what have you. The guy has a long history of me scoffing at anything that comes out of his mouth.

Trickle down economics? I'm all ears. Heaven forbid they would attack the problems of homelessness, gang violence, illegals and their burden on the nation, directly with their coffers of gold.

Neither one of those answers make any sense and have nothing to do with what I said.

    Additionally
The average American throws out 300 pounds of packaging a year. Half of allplastics produced go into single-use applications. In the United States 31 million tons of plastic waste was generated in 2010 [not 77,000], accounting for 12.4 percent of total municipal solid waste. - Google Search

Guess where we've been sending our plastic waste - China!!!

China has become the garbage dump of the world. That's why they just announced that they will no longer be accepting the world's garbage.

The article was speaking of plastic released into the ocean! 77,000 tons was the USA's number, not 31 million.
So what do you want the USA to do about the global problem --- fine Americans for every bottle that gets away?
And what about air pollution? How many more regulations and fines do you want the USA industry burdened with while China, India, et al. do nothing about their enormous output? Trump was right about taking the stranglehold off of the USA industries. Our economy needs to flourish for many reasons including being able to help other nations as a result. And what about the insane Paris Climate Summit that obama and hillary and the DNC would have gladly committed and wasted, what?, 500 billion to this political farce? Thank God he told them to get lost. Is there anything the secular humanist left ever does that is worth the enormous costs?

They never will reply directly to the facts, they are no longer capable of doing such.

Asia doesn't care because nobody makes them care and Africa just doesn't have the sense to know any better.

But yea, lets steal billions from Americans and give it to the UN because its the "responsible" thing to do for the planet.

You guys do realize that the USA, among others, were selling their garbage to China? Hence why all the plastic is there.

I think that in 2016, the USA sent 16 million tons of waste to China.

    Great Points!

On Earth Day, you shouldn’t feel guilty about your plastic trash. “This year’s Earth Day is focused on ending plastic pollution, but the problem isn’t you or me. Asian countries and messy fishermen are destroying the world’s oceans.”

But shaming normal Americans for fun, power, and profit is the goal here, as with all lefty movements.

And apparently, to get rid of that plastic, they simply throw it in their rivers and it flows out to the oceans? Darn it, we could have done that ourselves - the end result is the same, but we would save millions.

The oceans are degraded for the foreseeable future. Recovery is unlikely even if a process of minimizing discharge and then removing ocean garbage is implemented.

There is no will among the leaders of the world to tackle the problem.

Since Trump's election, the laws against pollution in the USA have been repealed or not been enforced.

Well, we ought to start somewhere. There's little we can do for the sins of our fathers.

Well maybe that is because the government and environmentalists have made it so expensive to bury it in our own land.. Maybe it's these ridiculous choking regulations that cause all this unnecessary effort and cost. Maybe it is hypocritical of the left to think they are doing a good thing by shipping off our garbage --- out of sight, out of mind..

I doubt any of our plastic garbage forwarded to China is ending up in the ocean. So that does not address that issue. But I am all for digging large holes and burying it. Why? Because we have far larger crises to deal with and we have limited funds to attack them. People who are protecting the land at all costs are not great helpers where there is far larger human suffering occurring, imo.

Liberals are the ones that want to have Tariffs and stop all the foreign outsourcing of our jobs, Bush even tried to outsource port security - time to hire American and buy American, time to even the playing field - are republicans against this? let's bring back the jobs, increase wages, increase quality again

Trump should lead by example, bring the jobs from his families own businesses home - come on Trump, support American jobs

    Good to know.

Since I scuba this IS on my top 10 list. Even near the top.

Cleanup of the Earth is often in the top 3 for many people, if not #1.

And that justifies China simply sending it's garbage out to sea how?
