This board DEPENDS on people responding to posts not directed to them. If people didn't do that, there would be no posts.

 

To clarify some more, I don't favor a wall and never have. More high quality fencing augmented by electronic surveillance, drones, border agents, etc. should more than do the job at a fraction of the cost.

 

We could undoubtedly spend our border budget more wisely than we do today. I'm certainly not opposed to hearing about that.

But, I do not see a justification for dramatically increasing that budget.

The reason is that the number of those here without documentation is not increasing - which is the most that a wall could possibly accomplish in terms of illegal immigration. Also, of those here without papers, nearly half came LEGALLY and then overstayed - something more border work does not address. Add to that the fact that we have many borders and alternatives to addressing our immigration issues.

There is also the war on drugs. But, I haven't heard from anyone (civilian or governmental) who is trying to justify spending billions more on that one border as part of our "war on drugs". After all, running that one border is only one way of bringing in drugs, and dollars on the border is only one approach to escalation of the war on drugs.

 

Look at the post of mine you quoted. Then look at your response. It doesn't make any sense. This board DEPENDS on being logical. Your avoidance of the rest of my post is noticed and understood.

 

Well, because this rape is different than the so-called "thousands of other rapes" which happen across the US in that it was perpetrated by an illegal immigrant. You don't see the difference...???

Sorry, but we don't let victims set punishment for a very good reason.

If someone did that to my daughter I would probably want to kill them - while the law does not consider that a capital crime.

This isn't a case of libs being "devoid of empathy" - it's a case of respecting the specific laws as well as the philosophy upon which our legal system is founded.

And, what I saw in that post is raw emotion - devoid of logic, devoid of respect for our legal system and even devoid of respect for life itself.

 

Agree absolutely. The echo chamber function of the media which reinforces stereotypes, and confirms prejudices has a distorting effect on the way we receive and process information.

 

You'd be amazed how many stories there are of illegals raping girls in this country. Yet, the media stays quiet. No agenda here. What a world.

 

There's plenty of justification for discussing the scale or crimes committed by immigrants from the wider political point of view but I don't see that as justification to focus on a specific case, especially since it's only at the point of charges being brought and the legal status and circumstances of the two suspects aren't entirely clear.

If anything, playing this specific case up as being something more noteworthy than any other rape case actually weakens the impression that lots of immigrants are rapists so this would be a common occurrence.

Nope. It's being picked up nationally now that dear old daddy is being deported. The rapists are also claiming their gang rape including sodomy was all consensual. I guess that's what they call a girl bleeding from ******* and screaming for them to stop. A hanging isn't good enough.
