He can't lose. He bet the markets would do great with Trump's handling of the Corona virus and, despite this being the worst week since the Bush Recession, he just declared himself the "winner".

I don't know why he would stop at half a million. With those odds, I'd go for a cool billion.

Not by lying, I'm pretty sure.

Stock markets are falling, not completely because of the Corona virus, but mostly because investors assume Trump is lying. The problem at this point is that, even if Trump were telling the truth, nobody would believe him. It's what you get for putting a pathological liar in the White House.

The corona virus thing will be an issue only until November if the Dem's win (HaHa!!), if they don't we'll see how long they hang on to it to wring out every drop.

It's mostly because investors see that production is already being impacted by the disruption in supply. They don't have to believe or disbelieve the president about what he thinks will happen in the future. The supply speaks for itself.

Bernie, quite frankly, would be happy if the market took a tumble. His response would be more cowbell.

    Ironic.

The only person I see politicizing the virus is you.

Glad to see you have such confidence in Democrats solving this mess that Trump is building. But how much time after November it will take to solve it depends on how big a mess Trump and Pence make.

That would explain a sell out of manufacturing companies that require imports from China.

Fact is that Trump is not equipped to handle this (or, for that matter, any) crisis. And, in charge, he places the second person least equipped to handle it: Mike Pence. Who's idea of "calming the anxiety of the American people" is to go on Rush Limbaugh to repeat the same lies that Trump told. And anybody who is even moderately informed (like investors) is aware that he's just politicizing a serious crisis.

A real President would tell the truth. That's all they need to do. This one lies. Markets will recover. They might even recover Monday (I hope) But Trump incompetence should now be clear to investors.

Uh.. The president that was right about a trade war with China doesn't know how to handle a shortage of Chinese supply?

    Yeah.

The whole point was to diversify the supply...

No. He doesn't know how to handle an overage of Chinese viruses.

Well.... he doesn't know how to handle a shortage of Chinese supply. He's liable to mess it up. Just like he messed up markets, jobs and growth with his idiotic trade war.

The fact that we have been feeling the blow of a situation like the one created by the Corona virus even before the Corona virus doesn't raise Trump's IQ even half a point.

Much of markets losses are due to the supply lines that are being disrupted around the world. That and the uncertainty of what is going to happen when the virus hits the US have folks on edge.

Add the dishonesty of the Liar in Chief and his minions...and you can see what the market is crashing.

Well your right about one thing it isn't entirely the virus no small part of it is that Bernie the front runner is well known for his hate of markets in general and the stock market in particular. The Bern scares the crap out of the markets. If Biden wins sc an rockets through super Tuesday the markets will rally unless a lot of people in this country start dying.

Sorry- the disruption hasn't amounted to much yet. It might, but we aren't there. Getting things from China for example is about a three months process; restrictions from the virus are less than two months old.
The market is crashing because of the fear being promoted in the media, as if the Corona virus were the black plague. You can thank the irresponsibility of the media sensationalism and overkill for much of that. As an investor, I see the volatility they are creating as the best opportunity since the mortgage crisis, and moved my positions yesterday morning to gain from it. When the fear subsides and the market reverses, I will reverse as well. Gain on the way down, gain on the way up. Silver lining to every cloud, they say.

Sorry you don't see what Trump is doing for you, but in spite of the insults, he will continue to do it.

It’s quite obvious. Yesterday you denied science by bashing Trump for comments based on current understanding of empirical data. You were not interested in truth, only partisanship. Today you condemn others for doing what you did yesterday.

I have a lot of respect for you on this forum. I’m saddened that you of all people are using this possible tragedy for political purposes. I guess that’s the world we live in though. I certainly hope that if this COVID-19 thing does have serious negative effects on this country it brings us together and doesn’t drive us farther apart. The hatred built up in so many individuals will likely be manifested in violence if resources (medical, food, etc.) become scarce. It’s probably time we all start thinking about that. During the Great Depression the moral compass of individuals made life bearable, relatively conflict free, and even enjoyable in most cases. We don’t have those restraints on personal behavior anymore—every behavior is subjectively judged by how it affects the one exhibiting the behavior, not on how it affects others.

It’s a freaking virus. Trump didn’t create it. Biden didn’t create it. Both have made unwise and poorly worded comments on the subject. It could kill either one of them. Or members of their families. Let’s stick to facts and at least save the often baseless ad hominem against our politicians and political rivals for later. I’m acknowledging here that I’ve made errors in trending towards partisanship on this issue as well. If I stray from the facts or correction of errors into partisanship again, ya’ll call me out.

Ah, now I see where you are coming from. I have respect for you too, so let's keep this respectful.

    1) I actually didn't deny science in the other thread. I said that there was no scientific basis for Trump saying that covid19 will die off when the temperatures get warmer. If there is evidence for this, then please state it, with citation. What he is basing this wishful thinking on is the fact that other viruses in the same family are seasonal. However, stating that, therefore, covid19 is seasonal too is like saying because goats and sheep are both ruminants (related), therefore sheep must have horns too, like goats do. I am not saying that covid19 is NOT seasonal, although so far it seems to spreading quite happily in countries with warmer climates. The point is, if Trump doesn't KNOW from scientific evidence that warmer temperatures will slow the outbreak, he shouldn't say it.

    2) Of course, I agree that Trump didn't create the virus. It is also correct that he and his family could also get it, so he has a personal interest to prevent the spread (although I have previously posited the opinion that Trump hasn't realized his own mortality yet). However, don't you find it the least bit curious that Trump's first concern about the virus seems to be about his re-election chances, rather than putting the best response team in place? Why do they want to control the message, through Pence, rather than let the experts, like Tony Fauci, speak? You answer those questions for yourself, I am sure after having observed how Trump operates for three years, deep down you already know the answers.

    Still waiting for your quotes.

Here is what Pelosi actually said:

We want to instill confidence” and work to prevent the coronavirus in the U.S. “without panicking people about this,” she said.

    https://www.cnbc.com/2020/02/27/pel...isturbing-pushes-for-coronavirus-funding.html

That doesn't look to me she is saying the world is going to end?

    Back to you.

We now have FOUR confirmed cases of community transmission in the US, all with no known contacts. This means there are already 10s of other carriers out there spreading it, while not knowing they have covid19. Very likely, this cannot easily be contained anymore at the personal level.

We'll have to face difficult choices: Are we prepared to quarantine whole cities, like China did? Are we prepared to shut down whole local economies by having people stay home for 2-3 weeks? If not, are we prepared for the virus to just run its course? The flu infects 40-80 million people each year, but some already have immunity. Nobody has immunity against this new virus. Let's assume 100 million infections, that could mean 2-3 million dead people. Are we prepared for anything of that magnitude? 911 would pale in impact on the US. Food for thought. People better start thinking about these questions..

I'm quite sure they are thinking about it. If you got carriers who do not themselves have symptoms, what the hell are you supposed to do? We had one typhoid Mary. The put her in isolation on an island in a river in New York. What do with say a million or carona Cal's and Connies? Hell how do you even find all if them? See that's the problem with a brand new infectious disease. You don't even have all the questions yet let alone even a small percentage of the answers. And of course the first question is how far can you trust Chinese data? And sadly the answer here is we just don't know.

The question is: Can you trust Trump any more than the Chinese? The guy who lied about crowd size and a hurricane forecast for political gain? This time, any lack of complete truthfulness will have much larger consequences.

That’s only one quote. Why don’t you look further. She was rattling on about the destruction of the country if Trump is re-elected. Keep digging.

Well, Garyd was the one who accused them of saying the world is ending? It's up to him (and you), to substantiate your accusations. So far, he has been silent.

Oh, and btw, garyd's accusation was not about the election, it was about what Pelosi and Schumer said about the coronavirus.

Sorry yelling orange man doesn't make things better. Right now the death toll in the US is zero. If you wish a serious conversation drop the orange man Bad routine and tell me what else he is supposed to have done? He's requisite agency working appointed a manager with enough clout to keep jurisdictional arguments to a minimum. He's asked for a supplemental appropriation large enough that it will take a couple of months or so at least to be dispersed into the appropriate research establishments. Frankly in my opinion that, given our current level of knowledge, is about all the government can do.

How trumpettes don't see the incompetence of the SOB....I will never understand.

Well....you voted for a serial criminal and you got one. He and his associate criminal Rudy know they can pull all the dirty tricks they want to get the Liar re-elected and Moscow Mitch will protect them. Oh...and the Stooge Barr will turn his back.

Now at his rally he is publicly telling his supporters to go vote for Bernie in the Dem primary....cause he knows he can beat Bernie. Can you remember another president saying that at a rally?

trump is a POS.....will always be one. I thought he would change....I had hoped. I was wrong....

For starters, he should stop claiming that the news about the virus are a Dem hoax, and that the Dems are responsible for the drop in the Dow.
