And I'm quite sure you would have no problem with Leonardo Decaprio playing MLK..........or George Clooney depicting Nelson Mandela..........LMAO

Sure, and the farther away you get from the source material the more pissed off the fan base will be. Having black actors in the film simply because they are black is a stupid reason to remake a movie.

Nah. I'd be TOTALLY okay with that because changing the race of a fictional character like Annie is not all that different from changing the race of an actual person whose life and career were devoted to pursuing equal treatment for his race. Your analogy is brilliant, per usual.

I guess it depends on whether you think all the different races are completely interchangeable. You don't think it changes the story just a little bit to switch out a lead character's race? In a classic everyone has already come to know?

What about switching out a lead character's gender or age? Make them handicapped too while we're at it.
How about casting a transsexual Annie who's questioning her sexuality? Or an eskimo Annie...

I don't know why they chose her. I actually don't even care. The director may be appealing to the black audience.

I'm guessing there are loads of adaptations (annie). Again if fans are angry then they can vent their frustration during the reviews.

I don't care if some few conventions are broken. I remember in a movie called cinderalla the main actress was played by a black woman and the prince was played by an asian looking man. It was different from the disney version but interesting.

Once again........ginger is not a race. You do not have a graduate degree because you don't even know the definiton of race. Clearly you must be upset because houseplants die when you walk into a room. Sorry that people mistake you for Carrot Top but a cheap dye job or a box of Just For Men could help you with that.

How about an update of Gone With the Wind casting Scarlett Johanssen as Mammy?

There are tons of Japanese horror movies that have been remade for the American audience. I never heard of Japanese people screaming their **** off over white characters being used to present Japanese horror.

Lame response. I guess one of those copper hairs on your head got into your computer case somehow and shorted out your PC before you were going to post something truly insightful.

It deserves the comments because it's a stupid idea. Black people can't create their own characters so they have to hone in on traditional white characters?

What's next? A black Snow White?

Probably to counter stereotypes, since when it comes to interracial relationships it always seems to be Black men with something else, or a white man with an east asian woman.

If it is so what? Get over it. Stop being so racist to bring colour into this discussion.

^Racism alive and well in the US and showing its stupidity. They're characters? I didn't know races are responsible for characters. I thought it could be the people who actually you know -- make the production.

OK, now that we're over 100 posts to this thread, can anybody pronounce the kid's name?

    I sure can't.

I find those kinds of names far more disturbing than the Annie thing.

I know and in most aspects it is racist. I don't understand the fuss over a black girl playing a character which is usually done by a white girl.

No I don't drink/take drugs (I bet you do). Do you happen to be a racist?

But the American audience is not familiar with these original Japanese horror movies, and a film is being completely remade with American actors for an American audience. That's completely different.
But even there, I believe the film still loses some of its authenticity.

The world does not revolve around the American audience. The whole point of my argument was if the Japanese don't complain about their movies being remade, then why are Americans? The answer is purely racism.

To say a black girl cannot store in a movie because she is black and we want a white girl is simply racist.

There are other adaptations for you to refer to.

Just so you're aware, Coolia identifies as a "Mexican American", and white progressives like you aren't really in a position to call them racists (unless they are "white Hispanics").

There's nothing wrong with an American movie being remade for an audience in Mexico and using Mexican actors.
Though it might lose some of its authenticity.

Oh please! And I suppose if we don't let a little boy play Annie it's sexism?

I don't see why they should ruin classic movies just so some people can feel good about themselves.

I would even go so far as to say they should preferably find a real red-headed girl to play Annie.
Some people will think I'm terrible.

Yeah it would actually lol. But who cares though. It is nothing to bust a nutt over.

Seriously there are other adaptations of Annie you can refer to. So what is the big deal?

Well, I suppose if you don't think Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was a big deal, then nothing...

I'm really looking forward to Snow White and the Seven Dwarves starring Kim Kardashian as Snow White, and Kanye West as all the dwarves.
