Are conservatives a party or a cult?

Think of the Republican Party like you would a money manager for a family that would spend themselves into bankruptcy if not reined in. It's nice to have all these things the Democrats would love to have the government supply them. I mean in reality, who wouldn't want a free college education, help with house payments, job, a roof over the head of all Americans, food, free health care, etc,etc. But who can pay for what everyone wants? Especially when almost half the population pays no federal taxes. I know to many, Republicans sound cold and uncaring. But the truth of it is, we can't pay for what we have now, how can we be expected to keep taking on more and more? Parents try and give their kids all they need and a lot of what they want. But even a parent, no matter how rich they are, has to say no to them after a while. Democrats expect the government to do so much for them, But it's not been that long ago, government supplied little of our needs and it was that way for hundreds of years.
