Not at all.... I believe there are some on the left that have a sick and unhealthy hate for one man... those on the Right sit back and are watching the clowns in the circus "Biden car" pile out in droves thinking they fool us...

Well, let me establish what I mean by 'merit worthy'.

The descriptor could be misleading, so I will elaborate.

No one can be the arbiter of what a valid argument is, or even how strong an argument is, that is why we are here, to debate, to hash these things out.

In my view, a merit worthy argument doesn't have to be that good, it could be weak, it could be filled with inaccuracies, errors of logic, etc.

I am perfectly willing to engage with those who offer what I call a weak argument, one filled with inaccuracies, mischaracterizations, logical fallacies of one kind or another, etc. Where I'm not is when they are filled with 'non arguments', such as weasel words ( generalities where the argument calls for specifics) all of which fall under the larger umbrella
I call 'the non argument'. so when I say 'not merity worthy' I don't mean the argument is too weak for me to engage. I mean, what is presented is a non argument, or it's salient premise is non argument. The point is, there is no point. There is no point to engage with non arguments, it's a fools errand. Others are more than welcome, it's just that I'm not willing, for the most part, though I might make exceptions when I feel inclined to respond in kind, rhetorically speaking. It depends.

You see, by 'merit worthy' I'm not referring to the relative strength of an argument.

What I mean is to present an argument where, at the minimum, the argument's salient premise is devoid of the various non arguments, things members often express which do not contribute to the argument at all.

For example, if I said "you're argument is full of beans'.

That is not an argument, it is not a merit worthy counter argument. It is a non argument. It's meaningless. It's rhetoric. But, more importantly, it's vacuous, meaning 'unsubstantiated'. Now one can substantiate one's argument on various levels, either with direct incontrovertible evidence, or sourcing a study, or reportage of consensus, authority, etc., or merely by detailing one's though process. Now, any substantiation below the incontrovertible evidence threshold doesn't necessarily prove one's argument, but it does forward the debate, and that's the thing, to forward the debate. But to do nothing, just declare someone is wrong, to engage in sophomoric cheap shots, etc., that is vacuous, and, as such, a non argument, ie., not a merit worthy counter argument. It's just wasting time.

Now, the rhetorical aspect of 'full of beans' isn't the issue so much. The problem with the response is that it is vacuous. Nothing to back it up.

However, if you said 'your argument is full of beans beans, though you said the Prez said 'Blankety Blah' here is a video of him declaring the opposite.

Now, we have a merit worthy counter argument, the response is substantiated.

Now, not all substantiations are valid, as well, but at least, one should try, source something, do one's best to substantiate one's argument. If the opponent feels the substantiation is weak, well, then, the debate is forwarded, and that's the thing. 'Forward the debate', which is to say, not sidetrack it, pettifog it, etc.

Those are 'non arguments', and, to continue to debate a comment which is mired in them, well, for me, constitutes a fool's errand, and so when I say 'not merit worthy' I mean the salient aspect of your comment either has no argument whatsoever, or ti's salient premise is a non argument. You see, I'm perfectly willing to engage with anything that is better than a non argument. Weak arguments, strong arguments, whatever, no problem.

I maintain an inventory of non arguments, which, when overly present, I choose not to engage. I add to the list as I encounter them, for no doubt I haven't listed all of them that exist.

    patricio3.jpg

And yes there are grey areas and terms which overlap others.

I don't think it's too much to ask other members, when responding to my comments, to try and remove non arguments from their argument, or, at the minimum, remove the non argument(s) (see above) from it's salient premise. What you are doing is confusing my attempt to do this with 'pontificating',
That isn't pontificating, it's an attempt to raise the tone and caliber of the debate. I should think the moderators would encourage it. Since I'm practically the only one doing it, I do not represent rocking the boat to the forum.

so, when you asked me 'when do I ever offer a worthy argument', it tells me you don't know what I mean by the term, because, even if I offered nothing but weak arguments, filled with inaccuracies, strawmen, etc., I would, by my definition, above, have offered a worthy argument. What I strive to do, though, given I'm only human, (noting that sometimes I can fall prey to the temptation to engage in one or more of the various non arguments I've inventoried) despite this, I do try my best to avoid them, and offer arguments, to whatever strength, sans the 'non argument' and I ask others to do their best to reciprocate. Is that reasonable? I think it is. See, I'm not interested in vacuous opinions, I want to see positions substantiated, because that forwards the debate. But, lowering the tone with excessive rhetoric, cheap shots, ad homs, vagueness, etc., is to mire the debate. I prefer specifics. I'm not here for conversation ( though I understand others are, and that's fine).

And that is all I mean when i say 'worthy'.

    As opposed to the left?
      • They defend any criminal that gets shot by police.
      • Yet, they defend the criminals of the summer of riots that mob attacked hundreds of police officers, innocent people and property
      • They don't care that Biden and his son used his position in government to negotiated with terrorists.
      • They don't care that our Afghani friends got slaughtered due to a failed withdraw
      • They don't care that Bisen received millions from Ukraine during his one term in office.
      • The don't care about COVID deaths since they happened after Biden's inauguration.

      • They don't care that babies are without their formula because government created the problem
      • They don't care that girls and women are going to die from trying to abort their own pregnancies or going to a back alley doctor to get it done.
      • They don't care that millions of viable babies have been slaughtered.

Utter nonsense. There is a notion that if there is smoke, there is fire. If someone spends all of their time refuting EVERY single allegation ever made against them, that is all a President would ever do. Why should he respond to your ( the off-the-charts TDS crowd) nonsensical interpretation of what was said?

The general public does not listen to you. This is the fodder for message boards with people that are well entrenched as to how they vote. The general public knows basically nothing of this topic. If he were to respond they probably would not get all that in depth on the topic, but they would see smoke where they now see none. The best move for an ex-President is to ignore you, which is what he has done.

OF COURSE you interpret that to mean that he is therefore guilty of your nonsensical interpretation. It is a never-ending echo chamber with you folks. Lather, rinse, repeat.

I take back none of it... that's my story... and I'ma stickin' to it. Trump lives in lefties lives 24/7.
    1. Keeps you busy and away from watching the phuster cluck the Biden administration has been.
    2. The more threads they can pile on PF about Trump just pushes the stack of topics further and further done into page 2 and 3 where it is less likely for people to see.

But here is what I do believe also ... feel free to contest any of these....we will have discussion on any of them.... the lefties will never want to talk about Joe...

Who cancels an American pipeline, killing thousands of good paying jobs while giving a thumbs up to a Russian pipeline.. Then suggests the Americans just go out and get another high paying job.. wish we could do that for politicians..

Who reverses us from energy independent exporting oil to begging OPEC to produce more oil...

Who mandates others wear a masks and then go out in public without a mask.

Who left Americans and alleys in Afghanistan that are still there. He has emboldened our enemies in Russia and China by demonstrating his cowardice in Afghanistan

Americans and allies are still trapped in Afghanistan and our own government is not getting them out... private American citizens are... what a disgrace the withdraw was

I still think you're wrong that those on the Right are so easily distracted. But whatever....you're free to believe what you like.

Exactly... good post. When they continue to leave out Trump's explicit instructs for marchers to "peacefully and patriotically" make their voices heard at the January 6 rally, then that shows their intent to smear the "nonsensical interpretation" to the wrong side of the road.

The concept behind creating a distraction to take away from your own failures would clearly be directed at those in the middle whose votes have a realistic chance at being changed.

People solidly on the left and right are not the target of such diversions.

Sorry to ruin your meaningless tangent.

You seem to have lost the context of your own discussion.

He was referring to a distraction created by the left to keep the focus off Biden. You can mistake that to mean directed at a message board and then proceed to laugh based off yet another of your misunderstandings if you so choose. That's not the craziest thing I have ever seen you type.

If he was serious, and/or actually ordered it, and someone had said, "Yes, Chief, great idea! I'll pass the word down," that's one thing. If he was either joking or blowing off steam or fantasizing, that's another.

My conservative cohorts are being too easy on you by noting that he neither did it nor ordered it. They should be asking, did he even seriously entertain the idea? Or was it a musing? I've "mused" worse.

If you don't know tthat answer, then it's the customary and unsurprising slander du jour. And a troll post.

Now, are you okay with Hillary Clinton approving the plan -- hell, more than the plan, the ACT -- of planting a fake story with Slate that Trump had a computer server he used for back channel convos with Russia?

In short, the Clinton campaign created the Trump-Alfa allegation, fed it to a credulous press that failed to confirm the allegations but ran with them anyway, then promoted the story as if it was legitimate news. The campaign also delivered the claims to the FBI, giving journalists another excuse to portray the accusations as serious and perhaps true.

Most of the press will ignore this news, but the Russia-Trump narrative that Mrs. Clinton sanctioned did enormous harm to the country. It disgraced the FBI, humiliated the press, and sent the country on a three-year investigation to nowhere. Vladimir Putin never came close to doing as much disinformation damage.

    https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.ws...-trump-russia-collusion-alfa-bank-11653084709

So yes, the story "bothers" me, though some protesters, if violent, need to be stopped with force. The story about HRC, otoh, bothers me more, plus she wasn't just brainstorming, see. She affirmatively approved the dirtiest trick in memory.

He is the ex-President now. He does not get anywhere near the coverage as when President. It would be unwise to spend his limited press time addressing your (The TDS Crowd) nonsensical interpretation.

Good on him. Nothing he could do would ever please you. You would simply move on to your next bit of interpretive nonsense. What would be the point?
