I'm not from the US, and here in Canada the economic down-turn didn't really affect me. Other than paying my student loans off (which probably would have happened anyway) I can't say things are much different for me than four yeas ago.

Which means the numbers were the same the day before Obama took office. Under Bush. Well, who would have guessed how extraordinarily prosperous you were until the very moment Obama was elected?

I along with the rest of the world am better off than we were four years ago. Imagine if Bush or his dupes had won - World War III would have started and your children would all be dead by now.

I'm better. But that's because of what I did for myself.

The GOP and foxnews (one in the same really) don't always feed you good, reliable information. In fact they more often than not feed you lies and propaganda.

Well, as the GOP and the conservatives always say, work harder and go to school, you make out of life what you make out of it, no one lese can do it for you.
So sit back make up more lies and keep whining, it's working great!

The Housing markets crashed in the Summer of 2007......read that going down hill fast. The recession officially started in Dec 2007 and ended in June of 2009. Just 5 scant months into Obama's administration. Three years and two months later the economy is still on the bottom of the bowl. How much more painfully obvious does it need to be that Obama and the Democrats economic policies have failed?

For the past 4 years I've been in college. I graduated in April and I just got my first "big-boy" job a couple months ago. So you could say "of course you're better off. You went from being a college student to a professional."

But if we look more closely we see Obama's policies have benefited me tremendously.

For one when I entered the university in 2008 I was 22 years old. I just about at the age where I would be booted off my parents health insurance plan. And I had no way to afford insurance on my own. So my solution absolutely would have been to go without insurance and hope that I didn't get sick. Obama changed that and thankfully I was allowed to stay on my parents plan all through college. And thankfully so because when I was 25 (the age I would have been insurance-less) my appendix burst and I was forced to go under the knife. If Obama was not president I would have fallen into MASSIVE debt with no real way to pay it off.

Also as my family was too poor to contribute to my college education Obama helped me out by raising the pell grant contribution. Giving me a few hundred dollars per semester to spend on books, rent, and food.

I can easily say my life is WAY better off with Obama's policies than it would have been without. That's why without a doubt I will be reelecting him in November. Along with millions of other Americans.

I was in hell from 1992-2000, then I was partying every night from 2000-2008 and last four years I am in hell again.

Yes. While prices have risen in this and other areas (fuel), they haven't outpaced our increase in income, and we are compensating by making smarter choices, being more aware of how we're spending our money, etc. In other words, we're adapting.

Yes, we. Even though my partner and I don't enjoy the benefits of legal marriage, we live as one. We share expenses and assets. Which gets interesting come tax season, since we have to file separately. We both work for the same employer (completely separate divisions), and have to pay for our insurance separately. We're fortunate that if something happens to one of us, our employer would allow the other to add them to their insurance coverage (after jumping through some additional hoops) - but that benefit would be taxed.

They exist, and not just as government jobs.

I certainly am. My family- matter of fact every single member of my family is better of today than we were 4 years ago. Does that mean I should give credit to Obama for our success- or does that only apply if we were worse off?

Exactly. In my case, it's partly because I've finished paying off my father's funeral expenses and am no longer spending large sums of money on fixing up two houses.

Being better off in my case has little do with the economy (thanks to my somewhat insulated job), and a lot to do with having fewer really large expenses.

Still off-target. My income isn't funded by taxpayers.

Yes. I am better off than I was 4 years ago.

One thing I've noticed, however, is that my fate isn't tied to the presidency.

Good for you, since the fate of many of the obama voters was indeed held in obama's hands. Glad to see that you're not one of those welfare leeches that sang the praises of obama by saying they were finally going to live in a rent-free dwelling, and that obama was going to give her all the foodstamps she needed for life etc. When asked whose money was going to be used by obama to pay for all her needs...she said it was 'obama money'. You just can't make this stuff up.

Yes. I am better off than I was 4 years thanks directly to Barack Obama. Thank you Mr President for your leadership in this time when partisan hacks on the right are trying to tear this country apart and remake it in their own image. Thanks for asking!

Sure, some people leech off of the system, but partisanship reflecting that is rather silly.

Even Paul Ryan's plan wouldn't eliminate welfare, so it's not like Romney winning the election will change this phenomenon. He plans on decreasing some welfare spending, but ultimately, welfare is here to stay as a safety net.

People get excited over one guy or the other because they view politics as sports rather than educating themselves in terms of policy and in terms of just how similar the parties are.

Not only that but they tend to be higher end jobs that require advanced degrees.

And this thread seems to illustrate this. The the poor ecomomy hits the poorer first, and from what I've read, the GOP people seem to have been more impacted.

Jesus I don't understand working class GOPers...

My guess is since the red states TAKE more Govt money then they pay, by a long shot, more cons are on welfare then evil scary Democrats.

I grew up in a very red state, deep red and I could never figure them out either.
Given the chance they will vote against their own self interest every time, then, (*)(*)(*)(*)(*) about their condition and blame 'liberals' for it.
    It's something to see.

Life is better. I earn 35% more than I did in 2008. I bought a new car that's almost paid for. The equity in my house has risen 30%, and I have paid down 20% of the mortgage on it. I get another year of paid vacation. I have paid down $10,000 of my $15,000 unsecured debt. I've survived the job cuts in the federal government and I've lost weight.
