Why do some Canadian's still even talk about the Queen?????

I have been all over Canada and Alaska.....much of it too damn cold!!!

But the more WEST you go in Canada the more American you are.

Not as in U.S. American but more in North American and not adherent to any Royalty.

I always give the Canadians a good ribbing for the Queen stuff too, and the way their judicial system dresses.... Sorry Canadians it's ridiculous.

Perhaps we can just make Canada the 51st state? lol....

I'm shocked we haven't already merged, we're so similar you can't tell the difference between an individual from the US or Canada.....

Never noticed that, but I have noticed Canadians always bring up that they are Canadian as often as an old woman brings up her aches and pains. While I have no evidence this is true, I imagine that the first words out of their mouth after the "May I help you?" at the McDonald's Drive thru are, "Not really because I am a Canadian after all, but I would like a McMuffin if you don't mind."

I'm a hockey fan (more like nut) and post on one of the most popular hockey boards on the internet and I can tell you Canadians freak out, they are way more culturally defensive and offensive than us in the US...... "No Canadian team can make the playoffs this year" - the world will end....

I really don't view Canadians as "Canadians" I see them as typical US citizens..... It's not like Canadians are really much different from their US brothers. I suppose Francophones (Quebec) are a bit different, but other than that.....

Canadian's and American's with the exception of some in Quebec are almost identical.

You go to Toronto....you might as well be in a U.S. City....say Chicago.

I have been to Toronto. Nice city except for all the Canadians. They should do something about that.

    Now come on now!!! LOL!!!

Canadian's and American's are Blood Relatives.

Besides just the fact that the band RUSH came out of Canada justifies their existence.

Culturally we're not even close. There is some empathy between Vancouverites and people in Washington State I'd say but on the whole American perspectives on a lot of things couldn't be more foreign to us. We see much more similarity with our British cousins to be honest.

You see Neil Young play Old Man with Jimmy Fallon?

Fallon dressed up and LOOKED just like a Young Neil Young!!

He started playing the song and half way through the REAL Neil Young came on stage and played with him.

    Remember this?

The Lasers are in the Lab.
An old man is dressed in white clothes.
    Everybody say's he's mad.

No one knows the thing's that he knows.

I would say that it's because public figures are generally exempt from attacks. Dead or alive. JMO

That's your problem Canadians are all in denial....

If what you said were true you would be watching Mr. Bean every night at 6 or 7 instead of Seinfeld...

That's the problem I have always had with Canadians, Canadians act like the French acted when it came to your cousins the British...

Also, I would love to add that isn't it kind of ironic Francophones speak French but bow to the "Queen"?...

Coronation Street is on nationally at 7. Seinfeld isn't on at all.

No one in Quebec bows to the Queen.

Glad I could help. Now that you're done displaying your ignorant bias toward Canadians you can go back go back to your full time job of figuratively* lynching blacks.

*I assume it's figurative but who knows with you.

What are you talking about - I have seen youtube videos of your courts of justice..... It's quite the show...

C'mon, I'm sure Rodgers gives you some random channel with British TV, but if you're in a major city you're getting the same TV shows we get in the US...

We had a lengthy discussion about this in the Staff. The reason we decided to leave the thread is because while the thread itself is distasteful to say the least, the Supreme Court Justice is a public figure therefore exempt from the rules here.

Then perhaps you'd like to explain why this OP was not likewise exempted.

I can only assume it's because while Jenner is a public figure some of the terminology you used was basically saying that transsexuals (a group) are mentally ill, not decent people, and you were referring to them as creatures and stupid people. You were saying those things about Jenner him/herself, but you worded it in such a way to include transsexuals in general.

What you did was target a public figure which is fine yet also targeted the group in which that public figure is a part of which is against the rules.

That would be a rule 2 violation; but as you can see in the closing post, it was locked on the basis of rule 11, though rule 3 was also invoked after I complained about the closure here.

But let's pretend it was closed on the basis you cite. If transsexuals are a group, doesn't that apply just as much to those of us who respected Scalia? If not, why not; and if so, what does that other OP say about us if indeed he had no conscience?

Well we tend to use Rule 11 as a basis to close actual threads. For example if the OP of a thread is a Rule 2 or 3 violation then we will usually just issue a Rule 11 violation and close it because we can't give out multiple rule violations for the same post. Sometimes we will close a thread and make a comment like "Rule 11/2/3" or something like that. When the OP of a thread is a rule violation then that in turn makes the thread a Rule 11 violation because a thread was created that cannot be published here therefore it did not meet thread creation guidelines.

Thats the technical aspect. We also try to give posters the benefit of the doubt and give leeway. A Rule 11 infraction is less severe than a Rule 2 or 3. Rule 11 carries 2 points, Rules 2/3 carry 10. So if the OP contained all three and we only issued a Rule 11 then that was the mod just being generous and not dishing out the more severe infraction even though it was warranted.

In regards to what you said about Scalia, we have to draw the line somewhere. If we used the line of thinking you are saying then literally everything would be a Rule 2 violation. If I make a post saying Vanilla Ice sucks then that would be a Rule 2 violation because somebody somewhere out there respects Vanilla Ice. Same with somebody like Justin Beiber or something. So instead of opening up that can of worms we simply draw the line at allowing members to insult public figures as long as they don't try to include the public figure in the same group as other people they are insulting.

If I said "Justin Beiber sucks" then that is fine. If I said "Justin Beiber sucks and anybody who likes his music or pop music in general is an idiot" then that is a Rule 2 violation because I'd be directly targeting a specific group of people even if I don't mention them by name.

If the thread on Scalia would have contained something like "Scalia is dead, we should all rejoice, and anyone who is not pleased with this is obviously a racist" then that would be a Rule 2 violation because that would be directly saying that anyone (a group) who is not happy about this is a racist (an insult).

It's a sketchy subject, but I hope that may have helped clarify our line of thinking a bit.

Hey, don't look at me - I didn't write the stupid thing.

And anyway, rule 2 notwithstanding, the OP was obvious flamebait, just like half the threads started by leftists here.

Personally I think the vast majority of problems here could be easily handled with a caution to maintain civility.

This does not mean a member can't say to another..."Hey....I read what you posted and I have to tell you that you are completely ignorant of the facts and here is why...LINK......"

Now let's say the LINK is viable and unbiased.....so fine.

But let's say the link is unscientific and biased?

We can't allow members to disrupt religious discussion in the proper forum.

We also cannot allow members to disrupt scientific discussion in that forum.

If the forum is neutral then fine both are allowed.

Problem is some members specifically write topics that cross both lines.

And even that would be fine....as long as some understand what they are getting into when posting.
