From my perspective it's positive that the new President wants to leave the pivotal decisions in the hands of the scientists.

Probably, having experience in the sector, I tend to prefer this approach to a pandemic by a politician. What I could say about what I read in the article on CNN site is that in US the federal government seems not to be able to impose the usage of the mask to all everywhere. Only in federal buildings and on federal lands. It could be not enough ...

He's right when he says that now masks are more important than vaccines: you need to vaccinate the 70% of the population to stop a virus ... so we will have to wait for months and months and months. In the meanwhile only PPDs [Personal Protection Devices] and behavioral rules can protect the population.

Now I'm going to read the document on Whitehouse.gov: https://www.whitehouse.gov/wp-conte...VID-19-Response-and-Pandemic-Preparedness.pdf

This limp dick mask mandate is not going to cut it. These places already had mask requirements before this joke of an order. What about mandates for places that don't and wont put one in?

He has limited authority for mask mandates. It is up to each state

Limited authority in executive orders, that's hardly ever been the case. He just doesn't want to spend first-100 capital on it because it would absolutely be a fight with our more ignorant states (like my home state of Florida).

At this point - the people who are willing to wear masks are doing so. The ones who won't are not going to start. Nothing is going to change that.

Expediting vaccine manufacture, distribution, and getting them in the arms is the priority to end this

Also my home state. How’s NY doing compared to us with so called mask mandates and shutdowns? Oh yeah. A whole lot worse by every measure. Go move to NY, thanks if you think it’s terrible here. Most places I go people wear masks by the way. Where I work. At Publix. Target. Home Depot. If I’m picking up food. everyone is wearing masks.

Even if I were to grant the premise that we can trust Florida's numbers after Gov DeathSantis has been busted almost a dozen times manipulating them, a slightly better count is nothing to brag about when 1.6M of your people got sick and about 30k died. Plus its pointless to compare the pro-containment actions of NY vs the pro-spread actions of FL without a baseline - which we don't have nor will we ever have. But what we do know is certain things save lives, like masks and shutdowns which the GOP run state of Florida wont entertain. So in 2 years expect the left to conqueror that state too because, as we saw in each state, the majority of voters put COVID response at the top of their list as they struck their mark for Democrats.

~ Great. These idiots are the ones who got us into this mess. Makes sense the Democrats would continue to trust them.

~ Somebody should tell Biden .

In the beginning of the document there is a summary of the steps the administration is going to take [in the weekend I will read the details].

    1. Restore trust with the American people.
    2. Mount a safe, effective, and comprehensive vaccination campaign.
3.Mitigate spread through expanding masking, testing, data, treatments, health care workforce, and clear public health standards.
    4. Immediately expand emergency relief and exercise the Defense Production Act.
5.Safely reopen schools, businesses, and travel while protecting workers.
    6. Protect those most at risk and advance equity, including across racial, ethnic and rural/urban lines.
    7. Restore U.S. leadership globally and build better preparedness for future threats.

    [Quoting from page 5,6]

The first point is connected with communication.
The second point is the first real step and it's evident that the vaccination has got the priority.
The third points is important: it's about PPDs, behaviors and rules. I will read about this, but I guess it's about endorsing basic NBC rules.

The other points will be a consequence of the first ones [if the administration will be able to take those steps, obviously ...].

PAST PERFORMANCE IS NO GUARANTEE OF FUTURE RESULTS:

Shot: Biden has a plan to fight COVID-19. Here’s what we know.

    —C/Net, November 10th.

    Chaser:

The president says the first part of his plan is to “get direct financial relief” to those who need it most.

“If we fail to act, there will be a wave of evictions and foreclosures,” he adds. “because there’s nothing we can do to change the trajectory of the pandemic in the next several months.”

“Biden warns of ‘wave of evictions,’” the BBC, today.

At current pace the House will work on this, in MARCH, which means by the time the Senate is done, and it gets to the President for signature, it will be APRIL. Not exactly the "Top" priority once they are in office that they claimed it would be while they were running for office.

Yeah yeah yeah. Keep drinking the coolaid. The only ones manipulating numbers is Cuomo. Totally nailed trying to undercount nursing home deaths.

NO proof we’ve manipulated anything. The facts are, FL has come out far better than NY without the crushing economic catastrophe that has struck their cities. The numbers don’t lie. But keep drinking that coolaid. Desantis has done a much better job at a fraction of the damage. FACTS. We had NYers rushing down here to steal vaccines. Didn’t have Floridians rushing up to NY for them.

Cuomo was a total failure even with the MSM covering for him. Desantis is a far better governor in every way with the MSM doing everything they can to discredit him and it just burns Democrats up. They can’t stand it.

How do you know that the pivotal decisions were NOT left in the hands of the scientists under Trump?

Was I impling this? May be ...
The management of the pandemic by the last administration has been the reason why I have substantially left Trump [at political level as external observer, obviously]. Among the aspects I haven't appreciated there was the way Trump interacted with Fauci et al.
We could remind the matter of the masks ... when Trump accused Fauci to be against them and Fauci had to reply ...
    https://www.nytimes.com/2020/10/01/...-for-misrepresenting-his-stance-on-masks.html

This was one episode. But this is what a leadership shouldn't do: generate confusion about functions. A President should substitute the scientists ... he should listen to them ... [to take political decisions, considering also what they say].

Scientists [not only Fauci, but also at WHO, in Italy ...] at the beginning didn't suggest to all to wear a mask and everywhere outdoor.
Sure there were concerns about possible shortages and there was also a bit of miscalculation related to the lack of knowledge regarding persons with SARS-Cov-2, but without symptoms. As soon as it became clear that they can transmit the virus as well ... scientists have asked to politicians to make masks obligatory.

Except that Fauci WAS against them at the start.

What do you mean by "substitute the scientists?"

The whole thing was political messaging, and the problem is that the messaging doesn't measure up to reality. You can't be against them, and then say you were for them. And you can't be that hypocritical and say you had no impact on the team and especially now that Biden essentially is keeping him around.

A hypocrite has to dress a thousand ways to convince an audience. An honest person only has to dress one way.

I guess they would say that they were against the general public using them for a very good reason.

Then all that inauguration talk about unity and being a President for every American would have been bullshit then right? Admit it, ron, he talked a big game about masks during the campaign and now that he's President we got one limp dick mask mandate for limited federal government areas that were already enforcing mask mandates of their own - and that's it.

I wanted Pres Biden to go hard on masks. I wanted him to take on these anti-masking COVID-denying Republican terrorist Governors, like the one in my state where we desperately need a mask mandate and cant get it. I wanted Pres Biden to be a President that acts. Where he is, ron?
