Yes I did see that it was a loan guarantee. I do know of the danger of letting in the worse of the leftist anti nuke gangs and anti nuke thinkinking. The basic Democrats are not that crazy anti nuke but they inadvertently let in lefty crazies into the nuclear decision. I have had unsolicited contacts with the anti nuke crowd without giving our details I was involved with a Chornobyl relief group and I took on the "security" job of identifying and screening out the worst of the lefty and pro Soviet scum pro Russia scum who tried to offer "help". The Soviet -American Friendship Committee a Communist front group was inadvertently "invited" to one of our board meetings by a Green antinnuke group ( allied with us) who was "helping" us obtain medical supplies for Chornobyl victims. They blew up into a screaming match accusing us of being bigots when we told them that NO we are not helping Russian only Ukrainian Chornobyl victims. And told them that we do not want "help" from pro Russian or pro Soviet scum groups. We " lost" our green allies when they realized we were not playing into their game.
Our group was made up of postvWWII Ukrainian refugees who were staunch anti Soviet anti Communists and their baby boomer hides like me. My parents age group hated Soviets, Communists and Russians.

The Democrats fall into the mirror image of what Trumpian groups fell into. Trump has his Proud Boys White Supremacists and Democrats have their proud girls Green Supremacists.

 

If coming out swinging means, just flat out making up shyte, well, that isn't unusual. Gates says "you can make turbines weather protected from ice" is a true statement. It also doesn't mean that his observation is rational given that the vast majority of turbines in tx don't have de icing. So, the "could have" isn't the same as coming out swinging because it is based on a "what if" that isn't available in reality as built. It's like saying Internet Explorer could be secure. But the condition is you can't ever use it.

There are very few real "white supremacists" left in America. Nevertheless, the legacy of white supremacy is entrenched in some of our institutions. IMO, almost all Americans would choose to eliminate institutional racism if offered that choice.

Solar was doing fine after a day. They tend to run hot so the kinda defrost themselves very quickly. Likewise wind turbines were running strong when the power had to be cut off.

Texas relies largely on natural gas, and those supplies were limited. Therefore the NG power plants couldn't get started as they had no fuel.

As you can see, on the Monday Tuesday and Wednesday solar and wind were doing their normal job. In fact wind was overperforming on Sunday the 14th. Gas tried to ramp up for the ice storm but you can see that the hit a ceiling from Thursday to Sunday because the fuel wasn't available.

On 2/8 the entire state of Texas had 20 mph winds. It is not normal for wind energy to supply over 20 GWh in Texas. It was actually supplying half of Texas energy for a short while.
